I agree with Brenda, Tracey. It seems sometimes that fate contrives to put tough obstacles in our path, but we have to try to overcome them and keep going. Best of luck!

Amber (elfkingdom) | 366 comments After my amazing day of writing, I somehow got the flu - and I'm sure the two are not connected lol Unfortunately I am so run down that every time I sit down I'm asleep within minutes - and I've completely lost my voice, which I'm not enjoying but everyone else is loving the peace! :)

This is the longest I've been awake all week I think lol

RIP Iain Banks, author of The Wasp Factory, The Crow Road, Complicity, The Bridge and many others. Died at age 59 after a short battle with cancer.

Also a prolific Sci-Fi author under the name Iain M. Banks

message 8419: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I finally watched all the Harry Potter movies; JB are selling them on Blu Ray for 10 bucks each. Now I suppose I'll have to read all the books ;)

message 8420: by [deleted user] (new)

Ashleigh wrote: "The books are great Clyde! I love them."

Yes, I wanted to watch all the movies first to really appreciate the books :)I believe some stuff will be answered in the books that perhaps was skimmed over in the movies :)

message 8421: by [deleted user] (new)

Ashleigh wrote: "Yes definitely. The movies skipped over a fair bit, especially in the layer ones and even cut huge chunks out. But the movies are still good."

Yeah, there were some things that kind of didn't make sense in the movies, especially later, and I figured the books would give more detail.

A Tragic loss at such an early age.

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments A strange thing has happened. Someone has sent me a message via Goodreads, asking me to be her friend. She supplied an e-mail address. When I clicked through to reply via Goodreads, a notice came up, saying that I could not be connected, and that the account may have been deleted.

message 8424: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3569 comments I had a couple of friend requests about a month ago from people with no books on any lists, who'd just signed up to Goodreads. They came with an email address as well. I figured they were probably scammers.

Lily Malone | 102 comments Spammers find you everywhere don't they... It's weird. I get follows on my blog (not you Brenda!!) but they are from people that I have absolutely no idea why they'd follow me, unless they're trying to get me to sign in to a pyramid scheme or a money making venture or something. Certainly they would have no interest whatsoever in what I write or read.
*chuckle* I just proof read my post and I'd typed "monkey making venture"... now that actually might have been fun!
Cheers
Lily

Michael (knowledgelost) Next step is to get a job at an indie bookstore then own one :D

I feel sorry for your TBR

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) A friend of mine worked for Angus and Robertson, she hated it :P maybe it was just a bad branch.

I can wholeheartedly recommend library jobs. That government wage!

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Ah that sucks. I don't actually have any qualifications at all (though I'm looking at getting some), but as tradeoff I'm casual staff; I get sent between each of my library's six branches, so that's where the license would be required I guess.

Elaine | 2001 comments Thanks everyone. I'm very excited and I know I'm probably glorifying it a bit but I'm just looking forward to being surrounded by books and talking books and actually being allowed to do that. I'm currently working in Homewares and I must say talking up the merits of a platter really is not as inspiring as doing the same for a book!!!

I know how that feels. I used to work for David Jones in the stationery department, I'd have to try to convince people that they wanted $300 pens rather than a Bic.

Yes I might need to pick your brain for that Brenda. You write amazing reviews and have probably read most of the books that I'll be selling!! I will definitely be relying on GR and members' reviews and comments to help broaden my knowledge of books.

Sounds like you'll need to do some homework Elaine;) That's a good idea though, check through different reviews to get feedback if you haven't read them yourself. You'll have a wonderful time once you settle in!

Liam, I hate having to do the hard sell especially when you don't really believe in what you're selling. Of course it's always about the bottom line though...most companies don't really care that much about what the customer really wants.

Great news, Elaine. So many books, so little time...

As Michael said - owning a bookshop would be the ultimate step. Aim high!
