I think it should reach you soon Brenda according to the weather report this evening. It is good soaking rain at the moment. Just what we need. And cooler too. Bliss.
Oh I hope so!! Our garden is gasping! I was going to mow in the morning, but I'd prefer rain:) Thanks Phrynne:)

I know Steve, it's been a dreadful day, heat wise. Very summery and bushfire-y!! At least the fires in Victoria are under control now, and the weather has cooled down there.

Happy Birthday, Elaine!

Which version? I've only seen it a few times, but Fredrick B Owens as Caiaphas with his voice so deep as to be six feet below his waist is my favourite.

I couldn't believe what I was reading. I know times are tough but it's not only the internet that has people 'shopping around'. It's a very common practice of mine if I'm looking to make a major purchase [& sometimes even smaller ones] to look around several 'bricks & mortar' stores before deciding Store X has the best value for my money. The idea of charging a customer to basically window shop is absurd & I can't see this store maintaining many of its' customers by implementing the practice. Sometimes I'll be in the market to buy product A when I get paid - which may be a day or even a couple of days away - but because I have to live on a tight budget [like many people] I need to know the price before I get paid so I know whether or not I can afford it that pay day or will have to save more. These are just a few examples of why someone might wander around a store and not buy anything and why, in my opinion, they definitely shouldn't be penalized for it.
Sorry bit of a rant there but the article really annoyed me. :)

It was the 1973 film, with Ted Neeley as Jesus and Carl Anderson as Judas... I think Bob Bingham played Caiaphas in this version...

I used to joke that I couldn't afford to window shop...now it's becoming a sad reality...

I'm afraid that if a shop I wanted to go into did that, I would no longer shop there!

I also am sympathetic to the shop's plight, but a cover charge just to enter isn't going to solve the problem. Costco charges you $60 before you are allowed to go through the front door. I know a lot of people have paid it and say it saves money in the long term, but I'd rather buy my loo paper elsewhere. Brick and mortar shops must find a better solution to retain their competitiveness than this. I'm just glad I don't rely of bookstores to sell my books. It's hard times for many brick and mortar retailers.

We don't have a real bookshop within cooee of where I live now which is why I come on here to choose my books. I agree it is hard times for shops and stores and it will be hard for us too if they all go out of business but that's the modern way of life! While it is cheaper to purchase online we will probably all do so!

Yes, I think that idea of charging to look is ill-considered and probably counter-productive.
There is such a thing as goodwill, and we Australians are accustomed to being able to shop around without financial penalty for non-purchase.

Wow, just, wow... Maybe they didn't think that one through. Although times are tough, and online shopping is often less expensive, I for one, will definitely shop somewhere slightly more expensive if the expertise, customer service and after sales service are excellent.
Those things can add up to money savings in the long run. But paying to "window shop"?

That's great Ashleigh - and if you can't treat yourself to a book for your birthday, when can you? :)

Even better :) My friend and I do that, too lol

Same here.

I know I'm going to sound like one of 'those people' but I cannot believe how fast this year is flying by [I used to hate it when people said that, I figured a year takes a year full stop] At this rate it'll be Christmas before you know it.

That is something I am yet to try Ashleigh! My daughter continually recommends Max Brenner, so I definitely will try it one day:)

I'm half an hour from our nearest at Charlestown Square (actually the only one in the area as far as I know) too Ashleigh!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. :)
