I'm taking a page out of Nick's book here. The wife's birthday is coming up and I'm thinking of getting her an i-Touch. I think she'd really get a kick out of it, but she'd never ask for it. So I'd just like to hear about pros, cons, cool apps, etc. Any input?

I thought your issues were mainly with i-Tunes. I've never had any real problem with i-Tunes, but I don't have any video there. The i-Touch ranges from $180 - $400.
well I love my ipod and i love my smart phone and isn't the ipod touch all those things minus the telephone calls? so if she's anything like me then i'm sure she'd love it. I didn't think I wanted an ipod until my husband bought me one. It's the best gift anyone ever gave me. Even if it IS made by stupidfuckingapple and even if I DO have to use itunes. It changed my life for the better.
Has she got a smart phone? If not, a smart phone will do a lot of the things an i pod touch will do. The games probably aren't as good, and not as much memory storage, but still. I finally gave in and got a droid phone after my flip phone broke (and i only had the damned thing for 5 years). There's tons of game aps, you can send email and instant messages, do some internet surfing (at work, so it can't be tracked on your office computer) and it'll store and play back music, too. I barely use my i pod anymore because if i've got life in my phone battery i'm using Pandora instead.

OH, there's also a tricorder ap. It doesn't do all that much and it gets old after the first five minutes, but it has the redeeming feature of turning my fiance' green with envy because her version of droid is earlier and she cant download it.
my favorite app so far is the google sky shit! that shit is awesome!!!!! i also love the light saber and the zombie run (the zombie one dont run on apple i think) heheheh!
I live under the flight pattern for Charlotte Douglass, so it's not so great for me.
I have to say I do love my iPhone. There is finally a goodreads app! I didn't think I needed or wanted it either, until my husband bought it for me. But then, I like games and fiddling around with things while I wait (never like to wait), so it fills a niche. My dad has the iPad and is fond of the farting apps, but I think that's a guy thing.

Buy? I paid too damn much for the phone, i'm not buying any apps. Besides, what can the app do that bookmarking it in your phone's browser won't?
Tambo, you just don't realize how cheap i actually am. I bought the droid phone with gift cards that i've been sitting on since November, because i never think to use them. I don't drink coffee, i go to early showings for movies (when i go to the movies), and have zero interest in the ipad. I see no reason to pay for apps when there are free ones available, or when there are perfectly servicable free alternatives (like bookmarking a website instead of buying an app.)
I admire that. I'm just like you except opposite.
Tom, fits it to the screen. I hate using the internet on the iPhone, all that expanding and shrinking and moving it around so you can read. You can never see the whole of anything! My husband may be right, I might need an iPad. Too bad those don't call people as well... Anyone have Steve Jobs' number?
What kind of car should I get next? My car is probably going to die in the next couple years. I have a Camry now and I was thinking Prius next but I'm scared to buy another Toyota right now. Do Volkswagons still fall apart? I love those cars but we had one and it was always in the shop. Same with others I've known about.
What are your "must haves" Smetch?
big enough for 2 kids and all that entails. sunroof. not in the shop all the time. no minivan. no suv. that's pretty much it. So boring. That's why I need someone to tell me something cool to get.
Subaru (though I hate them personally, they're pretty popular in the Pac. N.W. and they get in my way A LOT) has some pretty nice, comfy, roomy cars. Good gas mileage too I think. They're spendy. But, I drive a Kia, so...
If you're thinking hybrid be warned ....mpg drops in cold weather. Nissan versa hatch is cheap, roomy, decent mpg and sunroof available. Ford fusion looks decent too. Go get you a copy of consumer reports used/new car buyers guide.

I like the gas mileage. It's roomier than it looks. The seats in back fold down for lots of cargo space if you need it. There's also a decent amount of rear headroom, which your kids might appreciate down the road. It's quiet. It has power windows and locks (i got the Prius to drive instead of my 10 year old pickup, so to me this is fancy stuff). It's got a backup camera, and a gizmo that lets you track your gas mileage.Since you're too lazy to shell out 7 bucks for a Consumer reports, try playing with this:

I like the hatchbacks, myself. Versatility with the folding seats, generally good rear visibility (except in the Prius) and good rear headroom. I wanted a Fit until i got in the driver's seat and got a backache in 5 minutes, no matter how i adjusted the seat. Was going to get the Versa hatch with sunroof until i test drove the Prius. If you don't like those choices and are too lazy to pick out your own, here's some more:
