Laura (apenandzen) Jesi, the tasks look great! And I love the addition of the Ultimate Teen Book Guide, especially since I recently bought it. Thanks for doing it!

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Thank you for flexibility with this. I might not get bonus points but at least I can participate.

message 53: by Jesi (new)

Jesi (pwnedkitten) | 198 comments Sounds good for the bonus points. I'll add it now. :)

As for everyone - working with you is part of the job, right? :)

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Jesi - You are being remarkably flexible...much appreciated.

Amy Whoa, were there some changes made? Did I miss something?

The October poll for the monthly challenges is up! We'd appreciate your votes!!

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Would Witch Child work for 2.10?
And does mythology books count as religious? (Greek mythology is technically a religion....)

message 58: by Jesi (new)

Jesi (pwnedkitten) | 198 comments In my book, mythology DEFINITELY fits under religious. (Seeing as I'm pagan, and insane - not really related to each other - it'd be hypocritical if I didn't.)

Not having read Witch Child, I don't know if it would ultimately work, but tentatively, yes. Not planning on reading it, I'll leave the final decision up to you.

Excellent!

Also, when you say "cultures clash" can it be a fantasy world where to cultures clash or does it have to be realistic?

message 60: by Amy (new)

Amy Hope so Kellee. I still have a few places where there are holes and have no clue what to read and put in those spots (like 2.10, 3.15, 4.10). So if anyone has suggestions, throw them my way.

Yup.

message 62: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Cool!

@Amy-
2.10 I loved The Boy Who Dared which is about a boy who stands up to Hitler. Lost Time is about the government not wanting their secrets being revealed by scientists (Sci-fi). The House of the Scorpion is about two sides of an issue (cloning) clashing. Also, The Looking Glass Wars is a twist on Alice in Wonderland and have people on Aylss's side and Redd's side. I, personally, am going to read Tithe which on the back says that there is a power struggle.

3.15 This one is TOUGH! I know Jesi gave some suggestions in earlier posts. I am going to read Let It Snow.

4.10 If you haven't read When You Reach Me it is fabulous and won the Newbery for 2010. I'm reading Going Bovine which won the Printz. Marcelo In The Real World is the Schneider award winner and is supposed to be fabulous. Here in Florida Runaway won our state award and it is a good read.

Hope this helps :)

3.15 IS tough. I went with holiday reading list...

message 64: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Yeah- mine is on the list and fits the prompt, but there are many that do.

If you haven't read Shiver that one is on the list and is pretty good.

I recently read Billy Creekmore: A Novel and specific parts of the book take place during Christmas and his birthday is right around then- I bet they'd let that one count.

message 65: by Jennifer W, WT Moderator (new)

Jennifer W | 1289 comments Mod
For 3.15 I would recommend Snow Treasure which is a semi-true tale of Norwegian children helping to save Norway's gold from the Nazis.
Or The Best Christmas Pageant Ever which is a silly and charming tale of outcast kids who get involved in putting on a Christmas pageant.

Both are geared towards slightly younger readers (10-12 years), but they're good stories.

message 66: by Amy (new)

Amy Thanks Kellee!

I did read Shiver last year and my book club is reading it again for October (so even though I love the book, I want to read something new).

Snow Treasure is a book I've had on my to read list for a long while. So that takes care of 3.15!

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming!

Amy Okay I'll go back and look!

message 69: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Oh yay! We changed the read these books during this month rule! Aweeeeesommmme. :) Thanks Jesi. I was like crum! What if I don't get to those next month??? lol.

message 70: by Amy (new)

Amy I'm having a hard time getting through anything. Between work, kids, grad school, I feel like I'm losing it. But looking forward to reserving all my library books so I can get started on October 1st. Can't believe that's next week already!

message 71: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Would it be okay to use the Bluestem Award (Illinois) for the task about YA book nominees. It's really more Juvenile fiction... thought I would check. I'd obviously use books that were 100 pages or more.

Also, for the Winter Break .. could I use a book that talks about the Chinese New Year - which occurs in Jan/Feb?

Sapphique has been available overseas for awhile now. Maybe since summer? I have a friend who paid a fortune to get it from someone in England off of ebay.

I don't think that anyone else minds, because even if you "share" a few books, your list will still be your own. Everyone has different likes and dislikes.

Besides, that's the best way to find new books. We all have excellent taste! hehe..

If you're in the position that people don't recommend YA novels to you, feel free to consider any book on anyone's list that's posted here, a book from the WT Book Pushing folder (http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1445...) or a book on a friend's YA shelf as all recommendations.
This task is worth 25 points.

This book my daughter has been asking me to read this for months Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder

message 87: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 191 comments I have a question... would Maria V. Snyders Glass series be a YA read? I know people tend to accept her Poison series as YA and her Inside Out as YA, but Im not sure about her Glass one.

I plan to read the February challenge I missed...which is to read a red book...and I believe this ones red? If it isn't...um is it still a YA book?
