Task 10.9 requires that you specify the list your book was on.
For part A of Task 30.6, the book must involve "a life threatening situation." A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail was specifically discussed in the help thread as not meeting the requirements of part A.

Both books were approved by the task creator. I didn't know they'd qualify either until after I'd read them as they're marketed as other genres - they both have to do with the main character working as a slueth following/finding clues to solve a crime. In Code Name: Princess the crime is a kidnapped research koala; in Dragons Prefer Blondes the crime is humans apparently murdered by dragons. Do I still need to repost this to get the points credited?

I went back through the help thread and found where Code Name: Princess was approved - couldn't find anywhere that Dragons Prefer blondes was approved, and from the GR description it doesn't sound like a mystery. could you point me to where it was pre-approved?

My bad, I did actually complete the task properly. I just had a lot of completed tasks and mistakenly left out my other book. I have edited the post to reflect my second book. Is this acceptable or must I make a whole new post?

Hmmm, just looked over the help thread myself - Dragons Prefer Blondes wasn't specifically approved, but it did fit the what Dlmrose repeated: main character is sleuthing, following clues as to who committed the murders and why. But if you don't want to approve this one, that's fine - I can find another.

I've looked up a bunch of reviews of this book, and I can't find anything that seems to make it a mystery. The fact that she is supposed to protect humankind from dragons doesn't make it a mystery that she has to solve. It seems to be routinely classed as "paranormal romance" or "urban fantasy."
If you can explain what the "mystery" was that she had to figure out (not just stopping dragons), then it's okay. Otherwise, I don't see that it works.

Task 15.1 requires "pick a book from a shelf that involves a genre or subject matter that is outside or on the edge of your comfort zone. Shelves like "borrowed" or "abandoned" don't work for this task."
A book from the abandoned book shelf doesn't work.

Abandoning books is outside of my comfort zone as I said in my post- it fits. There was no such exclusion in the task. in post 13 of 15.1 task help abandoned books is specifically mentioned and not rebuffed. it is my last task and it is wrong to exclude it now with no prior notice.

The challenge calendar clearly stated that the tasks were not final until September 12. On September 12, the following message was posted in Moderator announcements, clearly telling everyone that tasks had been refined based on issues that had come up, and that they should re-check task descriptions.

There was one post using that shelf, before the tasks were finalized - since that post fell within the letter but not the spirit of the task, the task description was refined, on September 11, before the finalized date of the task, to specifically exclude shelves such as abandoned.

Hi Sandy, I was hoping since Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the series title and not the book title it would work. The book title is The Ugly Truth. I'm not sure why it comes up with both parts on goodreads. In our library catalog it is just listed with The Ugly Truth as the title. http://library.chesterfield.gov/searc...
If it won't work that's okay, just thought I'd put that out there since I've already read it!
Thanks,
Nicole VA

Task 20.7 requires
Read a novel about an immigrant experience from another country into the US (or if you live in another country about an immigrant into your country).
It is not sufficient for one of the characters to be an immigrant – the main subject of the book has to be the experience in a new country.
From the descriptions I can find, the main subject of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn isn't the immigrant experience. If it is, please give an explanation of how the main subject of the book is the immigrant experience.
Thanks.

I'm sorry, Nicole, but we have to go by the title listed on goodreads unless there's clearly something wrong there. FWIW, I looked it up several other places as well, including the author's website, and the title seems to be uniformly referred to as Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth.

Hi Sandy,

The number of GRA tickets credited to you up to the midpoint of the challenge (post #1510) are in message #2 of the Readerboard thread. I have you down for 2 before the midpoint and 2 after the midpoint (the Alexander McCall Smith books). So we're good, we both have 4 ;o).

You are right, Sandy, sorry for the confusion! I had checked one off on my list but forgotten to post it, will do that next time I have a chance to post tasks. Thanks!

Ah, thanks! Sorry I didn't notice that! :)

I noticed I couldn't do math... I'm not sure this really affects anything, but I just wanted to give you a heads up that my points total is correct on my most recent post. I missed a post in my personal record of my points and was off by 5 points. Again, just wanted to give you a heads up that I fixed it, and my last post is correct. I didn't edit any other posts.
Jenny Chicago

The Dragons Prefer Blondes Plot: at the beginning the heroine (Alex) "beams" herself to a potential trouble spot and lands in the middle of humanoids (that are clearly "something other" due to their psychic aura) murdering a couple of tourists. Due to this psychic thumbprint, Alex determines they are dragons (who can apparently appear human when they're not mad and are actually aliens from another plain...sigh, yes, I should have put the book down at this point but the cover was so darn cute) and goes back to her super-duper-paranormal-police headquarters to report and heads off to the dragon world to find the dragons that did the murder. She does this by going back to the original crime scene and following the psychic trails to where the dragons beamed back to their world. Once she gets there, she runs into the King of Dragons who appears to be innocent per more psychic clues and she spends the rest of the book trying to figure out who among his people did it, why, and how to convince their king they're guilty. This is mostly done with psychic aura-type clues but with a few real clues as well, like footprints, people looking scruffy while claiming they hadn’t been doing anything messy, etc. She also has to connect the dots from various interviews around the paranormal community - all while drooling over a co-worker and being completely blind to his rather obvious "I-dig-you" signals and then totally shocked when he makes it impossible to miss. This book was seriously annoying and one of those I wish I hadn't bothered to finish - I kept thinking, well, it's got to get better from here, right? One star, and that’s for the cover.

Mrs. soule, I agree with you--the cover was the best part of the book. Serious annoyance factor at work. And I like dragons, so I'm open to lots of stuff, but this wasn't it.
