Steph (angel4492) | 32734 comments LOL kittykat! I hear ya. I like the show, but no longer love it. Still, I enjoy watching it even though hubby & I are frequently yelling at the screen. Split groups are always frustrating b/c it just gives the writers more of a chance to keep us hanging and wondering WTH is happening with XYZ while they focus on someone else/some other group.

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) First time bobbing in - hi! I couldn't resist, as I love TWD and have been reading the comments with interest.

Firstly, I live Down Under and am a season behind because I don't Foxtel/Netflix so have to wait for the DVDs to come out (a year later), so I've just finished S8 of TWD. Doesn't stop me checking out spoilers all over the internet and on YouTube!

So - TWD. I've loved it since day 1. But I am over Negan. I'm hoping TWD doesn't revolve around Negan so much - that's what happened to Supernatural, which I stopped watching after season 11 - so over Crowley and the same stuff happening over and over. We need to move on from Negan. Really. The continuous fighting in the first 4 episodes of TWD nearly did my head in! Won't stop me watching it, but I'm hoping they'll do away with Negan and MOVE ON!

FTWD frustrates me no end. I dislike the characters, it's hard for me to find one I do like, they are all so self-centered and selfish. The daughter wasn't too bad, but the way the mother carried on about getting her kids, then was all okay with everyone splitting up...I was saying 'what?' That's in-between me yelling at the TV in frustration! The DVD series comes out around Feb every year, and by that time I'm champing at the bit for a zombies and always end up buying the next season of FTWD, even though I know I'll hate it.

How weak am I? ROTFLMAO!

I've always loved The Walking Dead

Glad you jumped in to chat with us. Share anytime!

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) Hi Steph!

In FTWD, the first episode of the first season, I always wondered what happened to that boy that Madison met at the school - the boy they sprung carrying a knife, who knew something was happening before anyone else, and later she met him getting food after the zombies arose. It was interesting that she, a guidance counselor, didn't worry about asking after his safety (from memory). I always reckon I'd rather have taken my chances with him than Madison's family. In fact, I'd be better off being far away from them! LOL

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 376 comments Hi Angela.

TBH I was never interested in Fear until I knew Morgan was moving over so binge watched the first 3 seasons so I could quickly get into the story. And I've only watched it once with no plans to watch again unlike the main show.

The characters apart from Strand, and early still addicted Frank, didn't grab me as much, some of the plots were just plain silly to me (like most of season 3) and season 4 was, for the most part, a dreadful bore! I hate that they took Morgan from where he was, where they could have developed him past his PTSD and made him walk all the way to Texas to... just walk some more, albeit with some more and different people. I have a lot of issues with how they treat his character but that is another discussion for another time.

However, now that I've started, I will continue to watch it to see the proverbial 'what happens next'. Lots of people seem to think that the two shows will merge casts... I'm not so sure how they could make it happen but you never know. If Morgan ever makes it back to Virginia I'll be glad for him but of course, it's all changed so who knows what that would do to him.

Marla | 261 comments Welcome, Angela!

I watched most of the first season of Fear, but it just didn't grip me like the main series. I didn't care for any of the characters. I did watch the episode where Morgan transitioned over, because it was Morgan! But though I liked the cowboy character, I still didn't watch continue after that first episode. I might go back and binge since Morgan showed up on Fear, but I might not.

Hubby is tired of TWD so I have only watched sporadically since Rick's last episode. But I've got them all on DVR, so I'll catch up before the season resumes.

Steph (angel4492) | 32734 comments Good point, Angela. I'd forgotten all about that.

TBH, the only time we began to have any feelings about Fear aside from 'meh' was with the latest season and it was because of Garret Dillahunt (John Dorie - "like the fish but with an 'ie'") :) I doubt he'll be enough to make it a must-see for us. We watch occasionally, but like Marla, I don't really care much for any other characters.

The season with the water/dam was awful. I thought (view spoiler)

Oh my gosh, if they ever merge the shows - the cast from TWD are goners! I still believe TWD is far better than FTWD!

I had heard that TWD S9 is returning to the original style. I'm just wondering how it's going to continue without Rick, as he was the lead character.

I have to say, even though I haven't seen S4 (I always check the spoilers though LOL), I was glad to see Madison killed off. I really didn't like her character. The son (Nick?) and Madison were a weird pair. He didn't seem to really care about her, while she was obsessed with finding him above and beyond the safety of the daughter, who showed more care for Madison than any of the kids. I couldn't get over that. The episode where Madison deliberately lit up the hotel as a beacon to Nick, without regard to all those people (including her daughter) being in the hotel, and thereby letting all the bad guys know they were there. The woman needed a good smack in the chops!

message 519: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32734 comments LOL! True! I'd forgotten about the hotel. Maybe b/c of his addiction issues she was overly obsessed with him? Dunno.

To start hiding your text, put
"less than sign"spoiler"greater than sign"

Type your spoiler text, then to end the hidden message, use

I hope this makes sense. It's also shown under the (some html is ok) link at the top right of the message box.

I have to admit, I was really surprused to see what I did on a re-watch!

I think I liked the earlier stories better. More zombies and scary parts! I can see why the series is going the way it is, progress and all that, but you have to love the herds!

message 534: by Marla (last edited Dec 29, 2018 12:29PM) (new)

Marla | 261 comments I did like the earlier seasons better when it was all so fresh and new and the zombies were scary and not so hum drum, I'll take care of it. My daughter says that we were horrified with less violence and gore at the beginning. I don't think it's been long enough to rewatch the early seasons for me. I don't usually enjoy TWD reruns. (As opposed to Buffy, Star Trek, Monk and Criminal Minds that I can rewatch over and over.)

I do vaguely remember zombies climbing and occasionally turning a door knob, but I don't remember zombies using rocks to break windows. I would think that tools, fine motor skills and climbing should be above a zombies abilities. They don't even bend down much.

Steph (angel4492) | 32734 comments I just miss anxiously awaiting the next episode, which ended a while back. I don't typically enjoy watching old episodes either. But, definitely watch reruns of many other series, like you.

Marla | 261 comments LOL! Yup, kittykat, that about sums up Dwight.

Anyone who would steal Darryl's bike should die...especially after Darryl helped them! Just can't trust anyone in the zombie apocalypse world.

I agree Steph, getting sent to Fear would be like being sent down to the minor league, though would FTWD be worse than dying on TWD...I don't know. It's still a paycheck.

Steph (angel4492) | 32734 comments Backstabbing bike thief!

message 543: by kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude (last edited Jan 10, 2019 05:18AM) (new)

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 376 comments Marla, TBH I don't care that he stole Dirtyl's bike, (even though it was a nasty thing to do to someone who helped him) as Dirtyl magically found another one, in the zombie apocalypse! [Sorry, you should know by now that I'm not big on fan service Dirty D lol!]

It's just that (view spoiler) and I haven't spared him a second thought since then, who has? He should just stay gone. I really don't see how him going to Fear is going to add any value to the show, as he was never that popular in the TWD world. Morgan is a different entity as he was a hugely popular character on the main show, but look what's happened there. The plot of season 4 of Fear took such a downward spiral, that what should have been a positive move of having Morgan join the cast was completely overshadowed by what was lacking with the storytelling. And, there are many fans that blame Morgan (!) for (view spoiler).

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) Steph wrote: "Danai Gurira Is Reportedly Leaving The Walking Dead"

Wow, if she goes, I wonder what will happen? It's as though all the main characters are leaving. I don't know if that's necessarily a bad or a good thing. It leaves the way open for different storylines, and I guess all actors want to expand their acting roles, which is fair enough. As for the zombie themed movies starring Rick Grimes? I am so there!

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 376 comments No surprise there TBH. From the moment I knew Andy was going and her contract was up for renewal, I knew this would be on the cards... With both Chandler and Andy gone, what reason has she to stay, especially when AMC most likely unwilling to give her what she is worth (I mean it took them till now to give her well deserved quality plot/screen time), just like with Lauren Cohan.

And just like I said upthread, it's even more likely that TWD will turn into the Dirtyl, Negan and Carol show now, I'll be gobsmacked if that's not what happens.

As long as Michonne isn't killed off, and gets the chance to take her kids and find their hubby/dad in the movies I'll be satisfied. If they kill her off or have her choose to leave without BOTH kids with no chance of Rick reclaiming his whole family in his spin off's I'll be mighty pissed.

message 550: by Angela (new)

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) Honestly, I'd like to have seen the Negan saga ended and something new start. The Negan character has had his screen time.
