If you really want to you can. I was thinking of all the series most of us already have read at least one book for. You can also use more than one from the same series for "series already started" You can choose to count prequels as "book 1" or not as well. It is up to you. For example I have read Fantasy Lover by Sherilyn Kenyon which is sometimes called book 1 and other times called a prequel to the series. I may read some of those for a series I already started. Hope that makes sense.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments Anita wrote: "OMG Ok ok ok I'll do it. Quick question does Romantic/Suspence fall under the Contempory/Romance? I have a bunch of these I need to clear out."

Sure. :) The goal for that category was just non-PNR romance (series or stand-alone)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments LethalLovely~I'll Wrap My Wire Around Your Heart wrote: "I have a question too. I know that "12 contempory fiction/chic lit/ regular romance NOT PNR" means no supernatural aspects. But does that mean every other category has to be PNR/UF/Fantasy?"

Nope :) Public Domain for example most likely wont be. If you want some PD PNR books or something similar I am sure they are out there. There are old books about vampires, werewolves, mermaids ect. The non-PNR rule is for me mostly to get me to read some I already own since most of mine will be PNR but yours don't have to be.

They can be if you want but they don't have to be. Also the other question/comment you had, stand alone just means that it is not part of a series and as far as you know there are no plans for it to be made into a series. I hope that helps. :)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments Sorry I was absent for so long! I have barely been on the forums lately and only using Goodreads to update my progress and wishlist :) I am back now though. Did I miss anyone's questions?

Awww thank you, Amber :) I can't wait to get started either. I have many books I am excited to read in the new year. I am working on seeing what I can cross challenge so I can start making a master list of books to read. Basically see which ones have the most challenges and go from there. I am going to aim for yearly challenges only next year... I doubt I will stick to it LOL.

Steph (angel4492) | 32708 comments Not weird. :) It can begin to feel like a to-do list, but some people (me included) need that sometimes to keep them on track. Esp, in my case, when my reads are involved in challenges. Helps me stay focused, but I always try to leave room for "whatever - just because" reads too.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments Mary wrote: "I never do well when I list them ahead of time. It's like if I put them down then I have to read them and then they're work. Yes I am weird."

That's fine too. Maybe you can list a few for each one... or just brainstorm possibilities for whichever category. I think the first in series and the already started are the easiest to come up with ideas for. :)

Yes it helps me too. I feel like I accomplished something if I check a book off of multiple challenges. I think I could potentially read more if I make a list ahead of time to keep me focused.

Steph (angel4492) | 32708 comments It's also a lot of fun finding books to fit the different categories for each challenge AND seeing how many cross-challenge reads you can manage. :)

That is more than okay. :) Mine are more than likely to change and my list isn't even finished. I am having a hard time picking out the books for that one (TBR that you can't change). And the years for the "Back to the Future" :-P

If you pick books that you have really been wanting to read, but haven't b/c life, other books, whatever kept getting in the way, you will thank me in the end. Aaaand, you can join with only FIVE books on your list (minimum). Certainly there must be 5 books on your TBR you're sure about, yah?

Come on, you know you wanna! >:)

LOL we just have a fear of commitment? Once we pick them there will certainly be others that weasel their way into the "OMG must read now" category. :-P For example... a month ago I never heard of Firelight and now I am determined it will be the first book I buy with my giftcards. :)

I got your back Steph ;)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Good idea, Steph! I made a folder in the RRRC group for that but I'm doing something different next year. I created a WHOLE GROUP specifically for keeping track of all my challenges. It's secret, ja?

Steph (angel4492) | 32708 comments ;) Been doin' the same and love it!

Sandra | 25910 comments ;) My secret group has been fabulous for keeping track of everything. You can use it for lots of things, not just challenges.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments You guys are such bad influences - I now have my own Secret Group - to keep track of everything.

I want a secret group! You are such enablers... :)

Steph (angel4492) | 32708 comments LOL! It's definitely the way to go. But, please, don't remove your member lists, we'd love to be able to iSpy it every so often to see what everyone's reading and how you're coming along through the year on your challenges and good reads. :)

message 93: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25910 comments On the challenge side I use it to keep everything together and then post to all the relevant groups from it.

But I also have lists on SOS & RRRC - lots of people like to look.

But like Lethal I'll be scaling back lists on RRRC next yr - it was just getting too much. Probably move more of it to SOS, instead.

message 94: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I created my own thread on either this group or the RRRC-I can't remember which. I made a post for all of the challenges I joined that start 1/1/11 and for a couple that are finishing up.

I also have a post going on paperbackswap. In the games forum every year there's a no-credit, self monitoring reading challenge thread. I put a post up for the Dirty Dozen Challenge and the Favorite Author's Challenge that I'm doing to help keep track.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 557 comments oh, too late - already removed my thread in the RRRC (I have to keep it all in one place otherwise it'll just get out of control!!). But I'll keep my lists updated on the separate challenges.

I'm probably going to rein back on the monthly challenges next year (maybe just stick with your ones as they're only 3 books each month), and longer challenges.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I have a member list here on SOS. I will keep it. I love my secret group too though. :)

Thenia | 977 comments I'm in for this one, too! Time for some cleaning up...

Question... Do we edit or re-upload our lists? (when we make them that is...)

Edit as the year goes on. Will keep it less cluttered.
