What books/series don't you like?

And I'm reaching the end of my tether with Queen Betsy. I'll read Undead and Uneasy (only because I've already got it) and then she gets the bullet.
It takes a lot to get me to give up on a series, but why waste time on books you don't enjoy in the hope the series will get better.

Then don't read Rivals. Horrible. Although it's a short ebook, so you won't have to suffer long if you decide to chance it. I did write a review for it.

I started her vampire series and was getting tired of it right around the time this book came out. It killed off the last of my desire to read anything by her. Terrible!
Let's see, my least favorites are already listed from the looks of things:
Laurell K. Hamilton - love the early AB books, no more!
Jeanine Frost - Dark Huntress - couldn't finish the first book
Kim Harrison - Rachel Morgan - started okay, now I just think Rachel's a bitch
Estep Jennifer - Elemental Assassin - loved the idea, hated the carry out
Some of my favorites are here too!:
Lilith Saintcrow - Dante Valentine - love-hate for sure but still like to re-read it. Ah Japhrimel...
Stacia Kane - Downside Ghosts - love gritty stuff and this is definitely gritty!

I liked the Betsy series, but the Fred one? Nope, sounded too stupid, so I've never even read them.

1. Vampires are clinicly dead. They can not evolve (as I have been told that the Cullen family are "evolved" vampires).
2. Turned vampires can not have children. Only a pure blood, a direct decendent, born of Lilith and Kain (not turned) or their children (still not turned) can bear children; however the female pure bloods rarely survive child birth. The unborn vampire child tends to eat and tear its way out of the mother's womb when it is time for birth. The only way for the woman to survive is if a very quick C-section is done and the child is pulled out before it can do too much damage.
A pure blood male vampire will on occasion take on a female human lover, this sometimes but not always results in a half-blood. The correct name for this half-blood is Damphre, like in Vampire Hunter D Volume 01. A day-walker is created when a pregnant woman is bitten (and usually turned) and gives birth just as she is turning like in the movie/comics Blade.
3. Lilith and Kain were banished by the powers that be to the darkness for all eternity. This means that the sun light is deadly to them, for it represents the beings that banished them and beings of good. For a vampire, pure blood or turned, to step out into the sun is a instant death sentence. It is only direct sun light that can do this. As in Dracula vampire can come out on days that are thickly overcast. Since no direct sun light is hitting them, they can walk about during the day, but they are sluggish and weak.
4. It is very rare for a vampire to be awake during the day. A new vampire, normally a turned one, is physicly unable to move during the day time hours. This is part of the laws of the banishment. Only very old vampires, such as Akasha from The Vampire Lestat are able to walk during the day; although its highly doubtful that no matter how old the vampire is, that they would risk walking in direct sun light.
5.While vampires do have what us humans call supernatural powers: lightening speed, fantastic agility, mind control, ect. They do not possess that ability to tell the future. Some might seem like they can, but usually they are insane or of the Malkavian blood line. (Malkavians are the Mansons of vampires. Completely insane from the start.) Only ancient vampires have more superior abilities than those of younger vampires, as they say with age comes wisdom and strength.
So as you can see, I have my reasons for hating the twilight fasination.

I lost interest in J.R. Ward's BDB series. I don't find the enemies of the Brotherhood interesting. The silly spelling of the names is also annoying, and i found the mythology somewhat lacking. I tried her Fallen angel's series, but couldn't get into it.
I'm starting to dislike Patricia Briggs's Mercy Thompson more and more. Mercy was never one of my favourite characters partly because of small things like how she dismisses Adam´s atheism. For me to accept their relationship as being able to last requiers more suspension of disbelieve then i´m capable of.
The Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris is also losing its appeal because I feel that the story is not moving forward, and character development also appears to be in limbo.

Kate Daniels
Crimson Moon
Elemental Assassin
Garnet Lacey
October Daye
Fever
And following series just suck imo:
Cassandra Palmer
Nocturne City
In Death
Personally i like Twilight and the glittering vamps that dont have fangs but bodies of marble.
Twilight is fiction and the author is allowed to do whatever she/he wanna do, like make them able to evolve, have babies, move around in the sun etc.
In Fiction every thing is allowed. Its the authors playground. Its where the author is a god.

Nightwalker series by Jacquelyn Frank is another that I tried but it was just kinda 'meh' for me.
House of Night...hated it. I forced myself to get through the first three books and realized it wasn't getting any better so I stopped while I was ahead. lol

Also Hush, Hush and Beautiful Creatures were terrible.

Vampire Diaries - it was just awful.
House of Night - I made myself read the 1st 3 books because I had bought them. Never again! The writing is terrible and the "slang" sounds stupid.
Carpathians by Christine Feehan - I really liked this series for awhile, but it started getting so repetitive that I lost interest.

Don't get me started on book 2. It was like it killed a part of me.
Any who I'll drop it so we don't bring on the anger.

I like authors that think outside the box, merely that, that was my point.
What i like most about twilight is that its so uncomplicated, a light read, but mostly for young readers and perhaps older ones that wanna read something that doesnt require brain cells.

I remember this. There was a lot of thought put into it and I could actaully believe it could happen.

Thank you, freaking thank you!!
Though I will confess back in the day I've read worse. I just don't like the messages either.

Agreed. At this point it's starting to get beyond exhausting. Everytime the plot gets somewhere it falls back 3 steps. Then they keep prolonging the release dates. Really how hard can these books be to write??

The first few books were okay, but I stopped in the middle of book 4 or 5. I won't read anymore. I won't go on my rant on why I don't like this series.

The first two books were okay. But the last book was probably the worst book I ever read. Talk about Passionless. Boring. And I can't beleive it was ever published.

I'm a hardcore fan of the Carpathian series and even I get tired of the constant repetition. There are several books in the series that are really good and the rest are ok. The last book (#22) was disappointing, but the ones before that weren't too bad.

I like the Nightwalker series, but then I've only read Jacob so far.

That's no fun. I actaully really enjoyed Stormwalker.

The second one was mush for me. Even though I was really interested in Gideon's story.

ooooo did you write a review?? i love reading reviews from ppl who have different opinions to me.

http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
there it is. It was one of my first reviews so it's a bit rough.

Geez your "rough" review is better than my best reviews, lol.
your review was great fun to read, i loved it. it made me feel like i must of read a completely different book to you! which is a weird feeling... lol.

In defense of stormwalker series
Me too I really enjoyed it, just shows you...different strokes for different folks eh.

lol i agree i really didnt like the Fever series, so many people were going on about how good they were but i just didnt see it.
i also really wanted to like the Dresden Files, but harry is kind of annoying. he's always moping around and is a major loner, i have nothing against loner's but if your going to be one embrace dont pretend you have friends. like with that female cop, i dont see how he can claim that she is a good friend, she seem like a bitch to me and she treats the other cops way better.

I'm sure there are many more that I just didn't care for but those are the ones off the top of my head.

BDB - I read the first 3 or 4 books of this, and then I gave up. They were all the same to me - tortured male vampire meets girl, is a jerk and loses girl, then they get back together and live happily ever after, all the while having a lot of sex. No thank you. I need more story line than that.
The Hollows - I really wanted to like this, but Rachel got on my nerves. The only character I liked was Jenks and he wasn't enough to keep me going past the first book which took me forever to read.
The Dresden Files - Recommended to me by so many friends..and yet I still couldn't get into it. Another series that I really wanted to like...but I just couldn't get into.
Parasol Proctorate - No idea what turned me off of this series. I really liked the writing and the banter between the characters.
Amanda Hocking - My Blood Approves and Trylle - I hated the characters and writing in both of these. I thought they were awful. Didn't finish either series.
Sookie Stackhouse - What is the appeal with this series? I honestly do NOT get it. I read through book 9 or 10 (they are such quick reads), but I thought that the writing was terrible and Sookie is kind of a bimbo slut...
Georgina Kincaid - I don't like Georgina. Abandoned after 2 or 3 books.
I'm sure I have others, but those are the ones I know for sure I didn't like and have abandoned.

I'm with you Alisha, The Hollows is one of my favorite series and I think I get more sucked in with each new book. Can't wait for A Perfect Blood.
Can we list authors that we have abandoned, lol? After the last book in the Dark Swan series and reading opinions of the Georgina Kincaid ending, I don't think I will pick up any of the other series by Richelle Mead. I don't need a HEA, but I do need some sense of closure.
A popular series that I just can't get into is the Cassie Palmer series. I haven't completely abandoned it because I already bought all the books, but I just can't seem to connect with the story. I have read the first 3 books and I just think they are ok. I don't really like Cassie as a character so far, but maybe the last two books are just amazing? I also bought the Dorinda spin off books, but haven't cracked them open yet.

I raced through the first 4 'Hollows' books, but then hit a wall at 5 and 6 - they just seemed so whiny and UGH! But, I decided to go further and Pale Demon pulled me back. I'm waiting to get my hands on A Perfect Blood.
Another series I haven't finished is the Fever Series - I loved the first three, but then.... And the Amanda Hocking Trylle Trilogy? The first two were pretty good, but I couldn't do the third - not sure why. It just took a path I didn't want the story to go, so I gave up. Kind of stupid reason, but there it is.

But then again i really couldnt get it on with KMM fever series, so i guess each to their own heh.
Another series i dislike is "little goddess", it was ok in itself, but what i absolutely hate is the change of POV, like ch1 was female, ch2 male, ch3 female.
I hardly ever read a book from a male author, let alone male POV. I dont mind a change from 1st person to 3rd person as long as when it switches its to the same 1st person as before.
Oh and something i wondered about, what the heck is HEA short for? Thx in advance ;)

Fever series sucked, but I did read them all. What a waste of time. On the other hand, I happen to love the Dresden Files.
Is the Georgina Kincaid series the one where she's a succubus? I hated that series. What a whiner!
@Zafia ~ HEA is Happily Ever After or HFN Happy For Now.

Funny you say that about Downside Ghosts - I started that book and read the first couple of chapters and then put it down. I didn't like Chess or the drug use, the grammar didn't do anything for me, and the story didn't do anything for me. About 6 months later, I kept seeing the book pop up here and there on different reviews - almost all were wonderful. they all said if you could get through the first quarter of the book, the rest of the series is wonderful. I decided to give it another go and now it is one of my favorite series.
