What are you reading now?
I have sort of a love/hate thing with Nightshade anyway. I was kind of bored with the family/pack dynamics. Shay just bothered me because he came in with a sense of ownership that I didn't like, and he tried to immediately nudge himself in with Calla and her friends in a very pushy way. It seems like he's going to end up an alpha or something in a future book and the author wants us to start seeing that now.The only scenes that really were good for me were the ones with Calla and Ren.
I did like the book, but not as much as everyone else seems to. It did make 4 stars for me, but it was more of a 3.5 and I rounded up.
Yeah :/ I actually think I'm not into the whole pack thing. Thats one of the things that bugged me with Stray. And I hate Shay. I will never like you SHAY!
One thing I'm curious about...Nightshade came out the month after Firelight.
I assumed people would flock to read this one because it's about dragon shifters, and Nightshade was just another wolf book. Both were well publicized on Goodreads. It's surprising that everyone seems to have read Nightshade and I only know a few people that have read Firelight.

Isn't it kinda like Twilight?
@Britnee Haha, I knew you werent gonna like me, liking Shay.If I had to rate it now it would probably be a 3 star. My review is probably gonna be major spoilery. I have alot to say, lol!
Yes and no. It's a sweet love story, almost a Romeo and Juliet vibe. The only reason I compared the two is because of one stupid line in the book that compares their feelings to a drug (which is too close to a line in Twilight). I liked Nightshade slightly better, but I'm just surprised that people didn't get hyped over the dragon thing because it's different. So yes, it's sweet like Twilight, but I think it has potential to go somewhere because after all, she is in love with the guy that is sworn to kill her for who she is.
I think the next book in the series is going to get more action packed because she's going to have to run/hide from the dragon hunters.

I might give it a try cuz I like dragon books.
I still think Nightshade was better. It's hard to rate Firelight because there were a few things that really bothered me about it (like a few filler parts and a bit of sappiness), but it shows promise as a potential series and I think it will go somewhere.
Firelight was on my January list but I was dissappointed with the not so great reviews so Im pushing it for later.
Don't feel bad Carina. We can love/hate the book together so I won't be alone in being the only person that isn't completely in love with it.
@Britnee hahaha he isnt that great, but he's not that bad either. Ren IS a little better.@Stacia I can see why people love NIGHTSHADE, and its not like Im not liking it. But there are ALOT of things bugging me about it. So I totally agree with the love/hate feelings for this one.
hi guys!i enjoyed nightshade and am really looking forward to the next one.. firelight was OK (just ok though...i didnt hate /love it or anything)
@Britnee Well I wouldnt say he's gonna get much love from me. Not yet at least, I gotta see how it all plays out in the end ;)@Isa Hi! Most of the reviews I read about FIRELIGHT said the same thing you're saying. And I will get to it but its not a priority to me right now. Maybe if people give better review to the second book, then I'll hurry and read it....maybe lol
I get not wanting to do 'just okay' books. I'm at that point myself. The saving grace for me with the book was the dragon and dragon hunter concept. It was better than Fallen, which was the most mediocre book I read last year.If they could have taken out or changed two scenes in the book it would have been a solid 4. Instead I considered it a 3.5 but rounded up because the pros outweighed the negatives.
That said, I'm not trying to talk anyone into reading it because I'd rather push other series I like more! Like Tairen Soul, Shifters, etc...
Im 8 chapters away from Ch 33, I'll try to read before work tomorrow morning to see if I can get there. Is it something thats gonna make me 'hate' Shay?
Carina wrote: "Im 8 chapters away from Ch 33, I'll try to read before work tomorrow morning to see if I can get there. Is it something thats gonna make me 'hate' Shay?"i cannot remember what's in chapter 33!
i think i should bump Tairen up in my TBR
Brit's going to hate me for saying this, but it was just a cute scene where Ren gets close to Calla. There was a little bit of sexual tension, much like the scene with Patch and Nora in the kitchen in Hush, Hush.It was hot for a minute and then it was over.
*runs away afraid of Brit's wrath*
Carina wrote: "Im 8 chapters away from Ch 33, I'll try to read before work tomorrow morning to see if I can get there. Is it something thats gonna make me 'hate' Shay?"Well, I dunno. It made me hate him 10 times more though.
@STACIA It must be really watered down, lol.......WAIT! Did you say some of your friends got RIVER MARKED???? Im so freakin anxious about that book! The Mercy series books 1-3 are really good but books 4 and 5 were super great!
Stacia ~ curiouser and curiouser wrote: "Spoiler me with a clue of what happened. I'm completely forgetting what Shay did now."(view spoiler)
Yeah, she just said :I write for the newspaper, and am interviewing the author for a feature in advance of the book being released, so the publicist at the publishing house sent me an advance copy.

Oh. I thought we were doing the whole "hot scene with Ren reference." I've been wrong about so much tonight.

Ren and Calla have some really great scenes but......aw man I dont really want to say it in this thread.
Carina wrote: "Ren and Calla have some really great scenes but......aw man I dont really want to say it in this thread."Humph.
@Isa Yes!! Hopefully Stefan will be back in this book, I have missed him so much...Me thinks Stacia should give Mercy another try! =D
I plan on it. I'm going to try to fit book 3 into my Feb challenge and knock something else off. Nothing's going according to plan anyway, so might as well. Now, talk Britnee into Shifters. I don't get it, the rest of us love the books. She must know a Marc in real life or something for him to send her into that much of a frenzy!
@STACIA I know right! Marc really isnt that bad, but man this girl is stubborn.@Brit You cant run away, you're gonna have to read throu the rest of the Shifters series! You know now that I think about it, Ren is soo possisive of Calla.....kinda like Marc. So you cant hate Marc so much when he resembles Ren somewhat.
And now Im going to run away before Brit can come back to bite my head off, see ya!! (runs away with a huge grin)
@Carina BUT BUT!! REN is cocky and sexy! And its just because Shays a jerk y'know!! Theres a big difference! Marc is a big old bully.
Marc is damn sexy. Jace is sexy too, but Marc is described as very attractive as well.Marc can fight, he's very loyal, and he's a hot Mexican guy that is sort of an old school rocker throwback, which is not the norm. Plus his face and body are described as very yummy. I like that he wears old rock tshirts and low slung jeans. He is like this comfortable kind of cool.
And he gets stuff done. He's not waiting around for someone else to handle business. He's right there handling it.
Sorry, couldn't leave without that.Marc is hot. Jace is hot. I prefer Jace because I love how playfully cocky he is, but Marc is a brooding sexy. I'd be all over either of them.

"Oh Shay" "Oh Ren" Damn girl make up your mind!
Im on like page 358 I think....its good.
