Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Sometimes I have to put aside YA and read adult because I get tired of the games in YA. Adult guys see what they want and just go for it.

I like both types of books, but it's nice to be able to flip between the two for some variety.

Sara | 114 comments I don't know. As I get older, I get tired of YA males, they just seem so unrealistic and makes me worry that young girls really believe guys are like that. Some girls are "waiting for their Edward."

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) It's the pining/obsessiveness that starts to wear on me. Usually moreso from the girl's end.

*edit* I wanted to strangle Luce in Fallen because of it.

Catherine (cattymccat) | 754 comments I age Jace to at least 21 in my head... It doesn't seem 17 to me anyway.

message 3055: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (cattymccat) | 754 comments I actually age all the characters in Mortal Instruments to at least 20 in my head...

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) At least it will be fine for us while watching the movie, since they won't cast a 17 year old in the role.

message 3057: by Sara (new)

Sara | 114 comments Yeah I didn't like Luce either. I see her as one of the most bland female characters I have ever read. I can't believe they are making a movie of the Mortal Instruments. I hope who's ever producing the movie doesn't screw it up.

message 3058: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) I haven't read many Adult ones yet. Only Night Huntress and I like Bones, Spade and Vlad from that.

I don't know if I like Will yet. And I forgot Damon but I like him in the tv show ;p

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) A lot of the more recent YA books haven't been grabbing me character wise. We all "like" Ren from Nightshade, but do we like him as much as Jace, Patch, Cam, Jem/Will, Dimitri/Adrian? I don't think he's "that" great. I liked one of the guys in Matched, but I already forgot who and why.

I even liked the guy in Firelight because he was a dragon hunter, and the concept was cool that he was supposed to hunt the girl who was a dragon, but I can't even remember the guy's name now!

Cassel is the only recent new guy I'm obsessing over. And Kalona, but he's not so new and he's not really YA either, he's just in a YA book.

Almost every single male in most of my favorite adult books is a keeper.

message 3063: by Sara (new)

Sara | 114 comments Yep true. I like Adult male characters better anyway.

Oh...Ooops

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Have you read White Cat yet? Cassel is pretty great.

Yeah I agree. This is why I'm starting on Adult PNR!

message 3067: by Sara (new)

Sara | 114 comments Stacia wrote: "Have you read White Cat yet? Cassel is pretty great."

Yep I've read it. The book started out slow for me, but the middle and end was great. I like Cassel :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) When people ask why I read YA I say that the best thing about YA lit is the creativity in stories. Especially in fantasy and sci-fi right now. PNR needs to catch up a little bit, but there's still a few gems in there.

message 3069: by Sara (new)

Sara | 114 comments Yeah YA stories are creative, but I find adult series to be a little more realistic in its characters.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) If only there was a way to combine the two...

message 3071: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) That'd be great

brittany (cirilla) S wrote: "yep it would. :) what is everyone's fav Ya series so far?"

The Iron Fey

message 3074: by Sara (new)

Sara | 114 comments I love the Iron fey too. Looove Puck. I really wanna read Iron Daughter, but just can't find the book at the moment.

brittany (cirilla) S wrote: "I love the Iron fey too. Looove Puck. I really wanna read Iron Daughter, but just can't find the book at the moment."

I think its ridiculous because where I live we only HAVE The Iron Daughter we don't even have The Iron King! I wanted them so much though that I got them imported.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) My favorite YA series are Mortal Instruments, Vampire Academy, Hunger Games and Morganville Vampires.

I've also really enjoyed Percy Jackson and The Luxe.

Looking over my list, I realized there are several books that have received 4 and 5 star ratings from me but I haven't finished the series yet. I'm a habitual series starter, but have trouble reading stuff back to back.

Wow, I still haven't read past book 1 of Iron Fey or the Study series, and I have the rest of the books.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Darn this coffee. I bet you guys get sick of my loooong posts.

message 3078: by Sara (new)

Sara | 114 comments nah, i'm not sick of them :) and i am a perpetual series starter too, though i do read the next ones to come in the series i start, unless i don't like the book.

Oh yeah those YA ones are also faves of mine except for Morganville Vampires cuz I haven't read them.

You should definitely finish them both they're great!

And you don't have to miss out this time!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) That's why I'm reading through Black Dagger Brotherhood right now. I made a commitment to go back and start tackling some of the series I didn't finish before starting a bunch of new ones. It's been good though. Those BDB men are pretty swoon worthy.

message 3083: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) I also need to read that series. When i get around to it

message 3084: by Sara (new)

Sara | 114 comments How is the BDB series? I'm hesitant to read it.

No "as you were." Jump in!

message 3086: by Carina (new)

Carina I went to see a movie tonight and had a big coffee so Im not sleepy lol. I started reading a book and you guy's coversation when I got home, I didnt want to intrude but Im not missing out either.
Its actually quite relaxing haha!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) @ Brit,

Morganville is a lot of fun. You'll want to strangle Claire in book 1, but she grows up. It has a lot of action storyline, more like Mortal Instruments. I like that it has the love interests for the females, and some darkness and mystery to it which will also appeal to the guys.

I'll definitely have to read it sometime then.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) S wrote: "How is the BDB series? I'm hesitant to read it."

I like them. They're definitely adult in content though, but you've read Anita Blake right? so you should be good.

The books are about vampire warrior men that spend half the time killing evil vampires and the other half finding their soulmates (and *edit* you know...) Each book focuses on a different couple, but the characters show up in all the books. I like that each of the guys has his own tortured past to deal with, and they need the love of a female (some are vamps, some are human, depending on the couple) to get them through.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) This conversation thing has become a nightly occurence, hasn't it? I wait until the rest of the house is in bed and then jump on the computer. Tonight the husband wanted to play PS3, so I snuck in early to put on some internet radio and email old friends. I keep a few windows open and tab back and forth, so I'm not just "sitting" on Goodreads for 2 hours straight staring at this page, lmao.

message 3091: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) I need to stop sitting on the computer all day then I might actually get a lot more reading done xD

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I love weekends. Husband gets up with the toddler, so I can get off the computer late and stay up reading.

We're supposed to be going with a group to Dave & Buster's tomorrow (it's this big arcade place if you don't have them where you're at), so I probably should be good and go to bed, but I won't.

Yep I've read the Anita Blake series, do you like the series? I was hesitant to read it because I read a review for it on good reads that the writing sucks.

message 3095: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Jan 08, 2011 01:33AM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I haven't tried them and have been sort of hesitant because I hear the first 10 books are much more mild, and the ones after that *edit* aren't. I'd rather have them be all one type of book either way, so I know what I'm getting into.

Okay, goodnight for real. Have fun everyone.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) So I went out to the other room to read and started feeling really guilty.

Because most of the people that contribute to the conversations around here are older teens and adults, I tend to forget that we do have younger members that frequent the boards, and I don't want to make some of the members feel alienated and awkward. We're all here for our love of YA books.

I'll still rep the good adult series if we're talking about them or someone is interested, but I'll try keep my conversation focused on if the books or characters are good or bad, and not the extensive details of the content.

GN take 2.

I hadn't even thought of that Stacia!!! Wow... Good looking out. :D

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) You still have to read Night Huntress though. All of you older people have to read it or I'll sic Carina and Britnee on you.

Gah...bed...now...going...MUST.
