GR is not letting you leave beta? (Black beta comment button on lower right > leave beta)

message 52: by Trish (new)

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments It is, but the next time I go back into Goodreads and look at a book, it's defaulted back to the Beta again, which is getting annoying.

My guess is that means they're getting ready to roll the Beta out as the main book page of GR - hence the question.

We will use the old-school GR display until the display is out of beta.

We've opened a new thread
ebook verification
The original thread is huge. I've been able to get on, but it can timeout.

This was happening to me repeatedly when I was trying to deal with readerboard today - and, nothing to do with ebook threads, etc, just trying to click on book links to verify them.

message 63: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 1609 comments Yikes, a terrible problem for a Mod at the end of a challenge! You already have an incredible amount to do. Many groups are also posting newsletters and new threads at the end & beginning of a month, but most aren't as time-sensitive as this one.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments Quick question - not sure where else to put it. I'm looking at a book with Teen as a MPG (along with Young Adult and Young Adult Contemporary), but for a task that has a no childrens'/kids proscription.

Where does Teen fit in the great scheme of things? Can I use it for this particular task?

Do I treat it as Young Adult? Or does it need validating through AR Bookfinder.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments It's The Hate U Give, which I was wondering about for 20.6 Option B.

Teen shows up when you click "more" in the genres list.

That would work for a task that excludes the use of children's genres.

You cannot make it into a pretty link using html coding. THAT feature is restricted to using ONLY goodreads pages.

But you should be able to just post the url, as RobinP did above. (It will get truncated, but it will still work.)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) HELP!!!

I have a private group here on GR that I use to track my challenges. In some of my groups, our challenges are set up where each player has their own thread.

I've been trying to update my challenges the last 3-4 days but it's not working out very well.

I go into a thread where there are multiple posts. Some of the posts are right. Some of the posts are ONLY showing just the heading BUT I know there's other info on that post. Some posts are showing OLD info that I know was updated earlier in the month.

When I click on edit to go into "edit mode", all the correct information is there so I've been going ahead making my updates and then clicking edit post to close it out. Sometimes the edits will appear and the post looks correct, but if I refresh the web page/close it out and return, it will revert back to showing the incorrect unedited posts. Other times, as soon as I click on edit post, it will automatically revert back to the unedited information as if I never edited anything. But these "damaged" posts will always show the correct information in the "edit mode" but not in "read" mode.

It's not every single post within the thread, it's just random posts which is a little weird and odd.

Is this just a glitch in the great GR system? Has anyone else been experiencing this? It's only been going on the last 2-4 days.

It's frustrating to go into your thread and see posts that have the incorrect information, may be blank with just your heading for that post, or show other construed information.

Fly (fly-me-to-the-moo) | 888 comments it's been happening to me too - posts that I've deleted have come back, and everything is saying last updated March 17. I'm hoping just a temporary glitch. New posts still seem to be updating fine so far (knock wood)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Dee wrote: "any chance you have like incomplete or not closed out HTML tags that are causing it"

No. I have checked and rechecked these "damaged posts" looking for everything that could be wrong/the cause.

Some of these posts were created/posted months ago and have been fine up until now--for example--

I have a post that has about 20 listopias lists that I like to read from. I never edit the post because it is just a reference/reminder list. In "read mode" the post has one list showing but when I go into edit mode it will show me all 20 lists. When I click edit post--it will show me just the one list again lol It's crazy Dee. I've never seen anything like this happen before.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Fly wrote: "it's been happening to me too - posts that I've deleted have come back, and everything is saying last updated March 17. I'm hoping just a temporary glitch. New posts still seem to be updating fine ..."

Yes, I have deleted posts that either never delete or they come back. I got so frustrated that I have copied and pasted some of these "damaged posts" into new posts.

I track all my SRC challenge stuff in my private group and with all this happening it's got me off track with what tasks I've read for, need to read for etc.

I'm sorry that it's happening to you as well, but it makes me feel better that someone else is seeing this happening because I thought maybe it was just me.

I use firefox on this machine. I tried going into goodreads on my chromebook and same thing. It's a glitch with my whole account (showing up on my threads in multiple groups, not just my private group I use for tracking) but it only seems to be affecting particular posts. The newer ones are fine, but some of the older ones have gone completely wonkyknickers.

Lauren (laurenjberman) This has been happening to my posts as well. I click "edit" and see that the change I made is actually there and then click post and it updates. A few minutes later I go back and it has reverted.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I have tried using different browsers as well. The only time I use the app is when I'm at the library and I'm looking at my GR shelves to find books.

Like Fly has said, it's my whole account--showing up on my threads in multiple groups, not just my private group I use for tracking but it only seems to be affecting particular posts. The newer posts are fine--ones made in the last couple weeks--anything older than that are afflicted.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Lauren wrote: "This has been happening to my posts as well. I click "edit" and see that the change I made is actually there and then click post and it updates. A few minutes later I go back and it has reverted."

Ohhhh no!! Not you too!! I'm so sorry : ( I feel your pain and know how aggravating this is.

I'm not sure what the GR issues are and I'm trying to find ways to work around it but so far about the only thing that seems to be working for me is copying the info and pasting it into a brand new post. But when you NEED to keep things in some type of numerical order, that can get tricky and time consuming--especially when the "damaged" posts are right in the middle of other posts that are ok.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Fly wrote: "Robin (Saturndoo) wrote: "I'm sorry that it's happening to you as well, but it makes me feel better that someone else is seeing this happening because I thought maybe it was just me. "

Have you asked anyone to take a look at your "damaged" posts to see if they are appearing correctly for others? Before I got some of my posts "fixed" in one of my groups, I wish I would have asked someone to look at them, but I was so aggravated at the time that I wasn't thinking that far ahead.

it used to show the whole month's updates, and when the month was completed I put all but the banner under a spoiler tag. Now it shows (to me) the last update as March 17, and the updates I added between 3/17 and 4/1 are gone.
They're still there if I "edit" but disappear when I refresh. Not sure if you see what I see :D this is all very weird

I am a AMMP member 🥰

For me, it's showing:
Last updated March 17--Nothing is under a spoiler
1. the banner is there
2. There are 6 image errors--I'm assuming where your badges should be.
3. The links are showing and working to your challenges
4. And then there's are 6 book cover images at the bottom.
5. I see 6 badges.
6. And some of your shamrock emojis/borders are showing.

I'm sure that's not how it's supposed to look but that's what I can see.😭 I quickly scrolled through to look at some of your other posts and for me, a lot of your badges are showing as image errors where other posts they are showing up just fine. I clicked on some of your posts with spoiler tags and some of them look good and some of them don't.

I don't know what is going on with all this GR glitching but it's aggravating given the amount of time we take updating and making these posts.

I am not a member of that group but what I see on your post is:
a March image
[image error]
row of shamrocks
March Series Challenge with link
round image [image error] [image error]
row of shamrocks
March Word Hunt with link
row of shamrocks
March Cover Hunt with link
row of shamrocks
March WOTM with link
5 round images [image error] [image error] [image error]
row of shamrocks
6 book cover images

I believe that there is a limit to number of characters that can appear in one post & would suggest that the post might be reaching its size limit because of the number of images etc - do you need to add so many?

message 90: by Trish (new)

Yeah. As you say, that is not a good solution when the post being updated is one that needs to stay where it is in the thread. Hopefully, GR will fix this bug sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure that this is the issue because I have a different post in the thread that is much longer with numerous bookcovers and titles listed and that post is updating just fine.

It's weird that it is some posts and not others and have to wonder if it's become corrupted for some other reason. It could really be anything!

Yes, today I click on a normal current thread with a comment and get an error message immediately. I didn't find anything on the Help site and sent an inquiry. For at least the last several days, multiple people have also reported getting error messages when posting comments, but the comments do post.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Yes, I've also noticed GR timing out and I think it was down altogether for a couple of hours yesterday.

I think it's time to download my csv file again just in case.

It would let her know if she had too many characters or reached the max. I also looked at some of her other posts and they have more images/characters than that one. So I don't think that's the case. I'm also in that group and have posts with lots of badges/images and as long as you don't reach that character limit it should post correctly.

I'm having tons of problems with GR not updating or showing my posts correctly. Some of mine are just very basic challenge posts. At this point, I think it's a GR glitch that we can't do anything about😭

And the list of problems just continue. So far, I haven't received any error messages when trying to just post a comment. Most of my issues are with updating challenge posts and getting the updates to save. Thanks for heads up in case I do come across this problem--I'll know it's not me! 😀

Watch your bookshelves and the way your books are posting to your shelves.I've been seeing lots of members complaining about that as well--wrong editions showing up, wrong dates posting, books that aren't read yet showing as being read, books on currently reading shelves showing up as being finished.

Is this our punishment for complaining and not liking the new GR book pages🤣

message 98: by Kathy KS (new)

Kathy KS | 2378 comments Here's another I've noticed:

When looking at a series list I'm finding volumes that I read previously marked as if I never read them. The basic page might show "Read", but the series list doesn't show the same thing.

Anyone else notice this? Some of the series have many volumes and I read the earlier ones YEARS ago sometimes. So, it's confusing when I'm trying to check which volumes I may have missed.,

This has been going on for a while. It seems that it depends which edition of the book you have shelved. If it is the same edition as the one on the list (I think it's the default issue listed first in the editions), then the book is noted as "read". If you have a different edition shelved, the list indicates "want to read".
