message 1: by Jasmin (new)

Jasmin (princ3ssjasmin) Recently, Bridget Jones's Diary. :\

message 2: by Jasmin (new)

Jasmin (princ3ssjasmin) Definitely. It was crap. Most books impart lessons. But most books must have a GOAL. I assume think book's goal was to entertain, but it failed me miserably. I'll watch the movie though. heard the movie is better :\

message 3: by Alycia (new)

Alycia Oh there are tons... let me think...
High Stakes, Desperate Duchesses, Wicked Becomes You, Kiss of Midnight, Real Vampires Have Curves... just to name a few. All of these were poorly written, painful, and sometimes cheesy.

message 4: by Jasmin (last edited Jul 08, 2010 07:57PM) (new)

Jasmin (princ3ssjasmin) Jemima J A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans by Jane Green is awful too.

Any book w/ a heroine with Jones as a last name is generally horrible.

message 5: by Sashana (new)

Sashana The House Of Night series was crap. When I read that book I thought to myself, "how the hell did this get published?". Also I hate My Sister's Keeper, I finish 98% of the books that I read but I'm happy to say that that book made it in the 2% pile of crap.

message 6: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I had the same thing happen to me with House of Night, read the first 2 and liked them but after that it just fell apart for me...I just dont think I like the authour's writing style for My Sister's Keeper. I love a good tear jearker, so I'll stick to Sara Dessen. The plot was good though just didnt like the way that she told the story, I felt like she was trying to put me to sleep.

message 7: by Ang -PNR Book Lover Reviews (last edited Jul 09, 2010 06:56AM) (new)

Ang -PNR Book Lover Reviews (pnrbookloverreviews) house of night for sure!!
i like them untill the last two, that did it for me!!

message 8: by Agent 99 (new)

Agent 99 (agent99formerlykd) I will probably be the only woman in history to say this, but I thought that Gone with the Wind was a complete waste of my time. It took me forever to force myself to finish it and then I forced myself to sit through the movie for three hours. I know it's considered to be the greatest love story of all time, but for the life of me, I do not undertand why. The history in it was fabulous, but the characters were horrendous and I just kept hoping that it would end like Reservoir Dogs.... everybody dies! :)

message 9: by Alycia (new)

Alycia Sashana wrote: "The House Of Night series was crap. When I read that book I thought to myself, "how the hell did this get published?". Also I hate My Sister's Keeper, I finish 98% of the books that I read but I'm ..."

I agree with My Sister's Keeper. I do not like Piccoult's writing style at all, I don't see the appeal.

message 10: by Katherine (new)

Katherine The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is the only book I can remember being sorry I took the time to read.

message 11: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (shyluck13) Alycia wrote: "Oh there are tons... let me think...

HA! I lovedddddddd Real Vampires Have Curves! IT'S SO FUNNY! not a favorite, in any way, but its just HILARIOUS AND HOT! I LOVE IT

HoN, too, was a disappointment. I liekd the first four, maybe, and then the series went downhill. I'm done with them.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) Lol I quite liked My Sisters Keeper, I really didn't like the film, but the book I thought was quite good.

The only book that I actively detest is: Rhapsody: Child of Blood, that book just wound me up, I was actually angry with it as I was reading it! There are other books that I don't particularly like or are indifferent to, but that is the book that makes me cringe just thinking about it!

message 13: by Alycia (new)

Oh well! :) It had potential IMO, she needs a better editor though. How were the other books in the series?

message 14: by Kathy Anne (last edited Jul 09, 2010 12:35PM) (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) KD
(LOL)Like resevoir dogs :)

message 15: by Jasmin (new)

Jasmin (princ3ssjasmin) Irresistible Forces by Danielle Steel this book was a pageturner, but the way things went just sucked.

message 16: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Jasmin wrote: "Irresistible Forces by Danielle Steel this book was a pageturner, but the way things went just sucked."

I gave up reading Danielle Steel many years ago, when I spent most of the book crying my eyes out. To depressing.

message 17: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Nikki (nomadic-nikki) I bought the True Blood/Charlaine Harris boxset because it was on special and then DRAGGED myself through the first 3 and a half books before finally giving up and giving the set away. I didn't like them at all!

I also really can't understand the appeal of Janet Evanovich, although I've only tried to read a couple of her books after SO many women suggested her to me. I didn't get past the second chapter with any of them.

The Ten Best Days of My Life by Adena Halpern was another recent one. Such a nice idea for a book that just failed miserably (IMO) by being overly superficial.

message 18: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments I had to hunt down Shirlee Busbee's back list and found her Lady Gypsy OMG, wanted to burn the damn thing! Rape, rape and more rape, done by the husband and a rapist. I couldn't believe she could write such garbage!

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) I gave up reading Stephanie Laurens because I found they were becoming sex scenes interpersed with not much story. However, I do still like her Cynster series.

message 20: by Francie (last edited Jul 12, 2010 12:02AM) (new)

Francie (love_francie) Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner!! I HATE this book with a passion!!!! I loved Good in Bed, so I thought Certain Girls would be just as good. But nope..it wasnt!! I hated how the little brat was mean to her mom!!!! My mom passed away 4 years ago, and I cannot stand it when someone treats their mom like crap. This book ticked me off so much, I basically threw it across the room.

message 21: by ♦Jennifer♦ (new)

♦Jennifer♦ (thejenneral) Bullet by LKH is the worst Anita Blake book that I've read by far. The series has really gone downhill.=(

message 22: by Francie (new)

Francie (love_francie) ♦Jennifer♦ wrote: "Bullet by LKH is the worst Anita Blake book that I've read by far. The series has really gone downhill.=("

I agree. I couldn't even get through Narcissus in Chains. That book put me to sleep.

message 23: by Rebecca Jane (last edited Jul 13, 2010 01:21AM) (new)

Rebecca Jane (bec3sjhdbzljldsgwsm) I tried reading True blood but i didn't even read all of the first book. It was so boring

message 24: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I just recently gave up on The Vampire's Assistant and Other Tales from the Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan . My sister gave me the book to read a few months ago and I've been trying to read it. I think I only got through 10 chapters before I said forget it. Maybe it's a little to young adult for me but the story just didn't grab me. And usually I'll read a book all the way through before I say "this is just bad" but I couldn't do it.

How many Anita Blake books are there now? I've read like the first 3 or 4 (been awhile since I read one) I'm afraid to find that this series has like 15 books. How can one person live through that many situations in her line of work? Does it really get bad?

message 25: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks.

Wow it scared me! It was a diary from a girl who used drugs and traveled across the continent. It was good to read about drugs, so I can inform others about the negative effects of them.

message 26: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 12 comments Same Kind of Different As Me: I just could not get past the author's self-congratulatory tone. It still kind of makes me angry just thinking of it!

The Twilight Books: I know it has its staunch (to say the least!) defenders, but for me... just ugh. I read them, as I don't think it's fair to hate on something you don't completely know, but wish I hadn't. IMO, it could have been a decent story line, but the execution is poor. I also kind of hate all the really bad books that it has unintentionally spawned.

message 27: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Stacey, That is probably one of the reasons the Twilight books are both on both the most popular and least popular lists on goodreads. I always get a kick out of that. Seems you either love them or hate them. Not much in between ground.

message 28: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (iandssmom) | 215 comments I see there were others with Jodi Picoult books but it has been a while but I'm still upset with Handle With Care. That book was horrible the end was so unnecessary. I kind of was intrested in the current book of hers House Rules since I have a child with Asperger's syndrome but if it is even close to Handle with Care no way. I even had House Rules from the library and changed my mind just because of my reaction to Handle With Care.

message 29: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments I liked Handle with Care. Yes, the ending was unnecessary and very upsetting to me, and yes, Charlotte was just an awful person. But, nonetheless, I enjoyed the book.

I agree, one of the worst I have read this year. Also hated The Strain - The Strain

message 31: by Elise (new)

Elise (elisebeth) I really wish I never read the Poison Study and Magic Study by Maria v Snyder.
I just kept waiting for the writing to get better and the plotline to make more sense and it didn't happen. I own the third book in the series and I will probably never read it.

I also wish I never read Vampire Acadamy. It was pretty bad. I really didn't like it.

message 32: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 106 comments Dead Until Dark I just didn't like it at all but I think I didn't like it because when I watch movie/series about a book I cant keep reading the books!
and unfortunately Marked was a gift to me so I started the serie and I decided to leave it when I started to read Chosen but then I force myself for finish the series so I read the Untamed so I liked it again I think if you left the serie cause of the Choosen you should read Untamed because I finished Burned and I really like this series again.
but of course I think a series should be at least 3 at most 5 books.

message 33: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Elise, I'm sad you didn't like Snyder's Study series. I loved them. Must be another book you either love or hate.

House of Night books are variable I think. Because when I read Chosen I said that Ok I'm gonna leave it. but I force myself and keep going to read and I got the sixth and seventh book and read them and now I like the series again:) but I hope the series wont go too much:)

Elise, why didnt you like Vampire Academy?. I think Vampire Academy better than Twilight series...but of course I respect your opinion:)

message 37: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Lol it sounds like you had a fun day. I'm glad you enjoyed they recipe. I'm not a very good cook either but I love looking at recipes. The taste is all that matters when it comes to food and the cleaning up is always the hardest part lol. I wish I had a maid to do all my cleaning.

message 38: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 106 comments Yeah! İt was reaaly great and I think I'll try another one next week cause I'll start universty this year so we can celebrate it:) and I think the taste was great but not lookimg good anyway I'll try again and again so I can make a great cheese cake:) And yesss!!!!!! Samantha you should see my room! I'm shocked that my parents haven't made me clean it yet but I'm sure they will soon lol. Good luck at you university! I'll be going next year. Will you be living in the dorms?

message 40: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 106 comments Well, my family leave me alone about cleaning just my mom shouting me sometimes:) lol she is looking like a monster when she was shouting:) Anyway this year I won't stay in the dorms but next year I'll live in dorms but just for a year and I and my friends rent a house:) by the way how old are you? and thanks for wishing luck:)

message 41: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Samantha,I'm 17. My mom gets crazy about cleaning, it's the only thing that really bothers her because she is a neat freak and I'm reaaly the opposite-I'm so unorganized it drives her crazy.

message 42: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 106 comments lol!! and wowwww! I think always you're like mmm sorry for that! 26/27 I dont know why but yeah I thought like that. Anyway actually my mom isnt a neat freak, my dad is a neat freak actually he is one of the biggest neat freaks and my mom know it of course so she is trying to clean everywhere and also force me and my sister clean everywhere. its boring! we starting a book and my mom shouting 'girls! come on we clean bla bla bla....' :) but of course my room and my sister's room are terrible. when she come in our rooms she always said that: Oh! I'm shocked! you didn't pee middle of the room, yet! do it and get complete:)

message 43: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Haha your mom sounds funny. Don't worry about it, I'm not one of those people who are obsessed with age or getting older. Thinking I'm 26/27 is a compliment in my book. That means you think I'm smarter than I actually am :)

message 44: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 106 comments Hmm.. I think you're different from other 17 years old girl who I know:) I'm not obsessed with my age, too but my sister is obsessed with her age she is 23 and I love making jokes about her ages:) lol:) anyway my friends said always to me that you're a bookworm yes, I can be a book worm but come on! you read 467 book! wow I envy about it:)
by the way I'm 19:)

message 45: by Sashana (last edited Aug 23, 2010 02:51PM) (new)

Sashana 23 is reall young so she shouldn't worry lol. I have a sister who's 21. I only read 242 books but I have ‎222 books on my to-read list. That's the only bad thing about goodreads. I've never had so many books to read before. I need to find the time to read 222+ books haha. How many books do you have in your read/to-read pile?

message 46: by Elise (new)

Elise (elisebeth) I just couldn't get into the story line of Vampire Academy. I really wanted to like it but I couldn't get into it. It is better than Twilight that is true.

message 47: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 106 comments Sashana, I read 137 books and I have 191 books on mt to-read list :) lol! I think my sister upset just because she'll start to working so she is stressed:) Hmm... I think if there's a library but a good library I could read more but there isnt a good library so I have to buy books so I cant read as much as I want :(

Elise, when I started to read second vampire academy book well it just force me because of Dimitri's relationship:) and I left the paranormal books for a while so I found VA and I could read it but I understand you:)

message 48: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Elise wrote: "I just couldn't get into the story line of Vampire Academy. I really wanted to like it but I couldn't get into it. It is better than Twilight that is true."

Elise, I felt that way aboutCity of Bones. I really wanted to like it but it just didn't cut it. Do you like reading Paranormal Romance?

message 49: by Avigail (new)

Avigail (avigailr) | 3 comments Well I have also books that I didn't like at all and those are:
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
1984 by George Orwell.
The truth is that I did finish them although I didn't like them.

Enjoy your reading
Avigail

message 50: by Elise (new)

Elise (elisebeth) Samantha - It's good you enjoyed it :) a lot of my friends love the VA series so I do hear about it quite often.

Sashana - Oh I love City of Bones! The whole Mortal instruments series was wonderful in my opinion. What didn't you like about it?
I don't mind reading Paranormal Romance but I haven't read a lot of it.

Another book I wish I hadn't read is 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill. He is one of my favourite authors but this collection of short stories just didn't do it for me.
