I thought the first one was a little slow as the world building is pretty extensive, but it was good and different from so much that is out there.

The Jane Yellowrock Series by Faith Hunter is a very good series to check out. The heroine is a supernatural vampire hunter and is hired to take care of the New Orleans Vampire Council's latest issue. I reminded me a bit of the Mercy series while I was reading them.
