I'm reading the Briar King as well.
It's... it's not fun.

Haha. It's ok but definitely isn't as interesting as The Blade Itself, which I finished reading before this.
How far are you into it?
Traci wrote: "Started Under Heaven. It has even less fantasy elements than Kay's other books but being a fan of Chinese cinema that's not really a problem."I liked it too, although I would have enjoyed more fantasy elements--the beginning was so interesting.
BTW, finished The Mystery of Grace and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the rec!
I'm about 75% through. I'm having all kinds of trouble caring about these characters.
Ala wrote: "I'm about 75% through. I'm having all kinds of trouble caring about these characters."Same here. I just started Part Four, and there's really not a character I feel attached to yet.
I'm reading some Piers Anthony probability until the end of the month starting with Castle Roogna up on till Harpy Thyme, but without Centaur Aisle , which I already read, and I don't have Night Mare.
Re-reading
. About a third in, and it's good so far. Last time I read it was about 6 years ago, maybe 5, don't really remember much of it at all.
I can finally put a fantasy here. I'm reading The Hunger Games with Aloha Jr. Very enjoyable. I like the strong female protag and the ideas. Haven't enjoyed a YA since Harry Potter series. Harry is still my favorite of the YA's.
MrsJoseph wrote: "I'm digging through nominations ... O_o"That, I imagine, is a job in itself! If you want any help, let me know.
open a spread sheet that lets you list every title, then add up check marks as you count up the votes.
Hugh (The other Hugh) wrote: "open a spread sheet that lets you list every title, then add up check marks as you count up the votes."Votes? *maniacal laughter* These are just nominations. I'm putting these in a poll, there's no way I'd be responsible for counting votes and hear cries of "unfair!"
Oh,... well in that case...I'm reading Grimspace right now. It's a but unique but I'm not sure yet if it's a good thing, neither here nor there, or a bad thing.
Story is told in first person, but also present tense. Kind of different.
Finished Kushiel's Chosen and now I'm working on
, gonna polish off that trilogy before I move on to something else.
Reading Sheepfarmer's Daughter. Trying to get a head start on some of the books that have been put up for FA's nominations that I have.
I finished The Hunger Games. It was an enjoyable YA read. A bit too simplistic for my taste as YAs usually are, but imaginative and enjoyable. Simplistic meaning I can see where it came from and where it's going. The Harry Potter series is still the best. The Potter series did not feel simplistic. The storyline is highly original, told in a whimsical, complex way without a complication of words, and I can't break it down easily.
I'm starting Shades of Grey. I am absolutely loving this book. If it follows the same pacing to the end, it will go on my favorites shelf. It's basically a satire on government bureaucracy and group hierarchy expressed in an explosion of colors. As an artist, I love it! As a lover of smart and original books, I love it! It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland in its hidden commentary on the structure of society illustrated within the book's zany world.
Yesterday, I finished The Great and Secret Show. I enjoyed it but I thought some parts of the story were a little slow and drawn out.Now I'm reading The Godwulf Manuscript.
Ok. This month I knocked off the last two books in The Night Angel Trilogy, which was 5-stars awesomeness. Then moved right on to the sequel to Geist,
Spectyr, a great continuation. Wrapped up my audio listening with the completion of Heartless, and now I find myself truly wondering what I will pick up next. I've had such GREAT reads lately!=)

I've bought nothing in more than two weeks!
Kara-- if you are ever suffering from ideas, take a look at the favorite underrated books" thread--I've found a ton of good suggestions there.MrsJ-- two weeks? Awesome self control! But that wouldn't have anything to do with a vacation, would it? ;)

I thought the book would be too kiddy for me but it was on a best of list I was working through and so I finally read it. And loved it.

oh cool, yeah i've always heard it's really good too.
I started listening to Stories: All-New Tales the day before yesterday. It's actually a mix of genres-storywise. I've liked some stories more than others.
Angie wrote: "i'm reading The Last Unicorn"One of my all time faves. Period.
@ MrsJ -> That IS self control! Ever bookswap? (Then you don't have to buy Spectyr), I bet you have something I want to read...
@Laura -> I loved the Night Angle trilogy! Strangely, I actually think book two was my favorite.
@Carol -> Thanks! I'm actually trying to decimate my TBR pile as well. So it's between...
The Desert Spear
The Hidden Goddess
or picking up Sheepfarmer's Daughter in book form, where I left off the audio. (Tragic, but I really can not find my mp3 player atm, *sigh*).

I use bookswap a lot (or I used to before the challenge) but I don't usually get rid of books, lol.
Much. It withstands the test of time.(although, it's a pretty straightforward adaptation of the book)

Agreed.
I finished The Godwulf Manuscript. It was enjoyable. I also realized that these books were what the TV series Spenser for Hire was based on. I will definitely read more of them. Now I'm going to start Hammerhead Ranch Motel since it became available from the library yesterday.
Hey folks! Brent Weeks is going to be in Redondo Beach at Mysterious Galaxy bookstore this evening! Is anyone else going?I just loaded my iphone with Leviathan Wakes to keep me company while standing in line, so I am currently reading it, just to keep it on topic. Just finished off The Left Hand of God and found it "eh."
Finally getting to The Palace of Impossible Dreams. Figured I better finish this series before I completely forget the first two books. I'm remembering how much I enjoy Jennifer Fallon's writing though. A very underrated talent, IMO.
i finished The Last Unicorn and you guys were right. it was really great! i just startedTigerheart its kinda like a different take on Peter Pan and while i didn't enjoy the original Peter Pan that much, this one i'm really liking so far.
