What Are You Currently Reading?
I got about 100 pages into Name of the Wind, but I put it down because I realized it was something better read during the x-mas break. Instead I went and picked up Geist, looking forward to starting it when I get home.
I finished Sue Bolich's Firedancer yesterday and immediately started the sequel, Windrider.

@MrsJ, yours is one of many complaints i've heard against him. So far I rather like him, but I'm only 120 or so pages in, I won't take it for granted that he may yet get under my skin. I was enjoying myself, but I wanna give it my undivided attention, hence the break.
It seems like people either love or be bored by Kvothe!

I was enjoyi..."I made it rather far in the book, more than 50%. But it got to be...painful to watch Kvothe do the stupid shit he did. And the whining. And the crying. Ect, wash, rinse and repeat. But I only noticed it the most when I walked away from the book. I noticed I never wanted to pick it back up.

Just finished Catching Fire and I have to thank the people who told me to give it a shot even if I was disappointed with The Hunger Games once the games started. I'm still trying to digest how amazing I found the second one to be. It's everything I expected the first one would be and more. Definitely one of the most pleasant surprises I've had this year and I can't recommend it enough to people who've read the first, even if they didn't particularly care once the games started.

Also about halfway done with A Crown of Swords and I'm definitely having some mixed feelings about it, but I'll finish it before forming a proper opinion about it. There have been some amazing moments here and there, but I feel like I'm not getting enough for the amount of pages I'm turning.
Reading Changes by Jim Butcher and Geekomancy by Michael R. Underwood.Both are ok. I wish I could love Dresden as much as a lot of other people do, but I'm having a hard time getting into it. The writing's kind of annoying me. The paragraph or two info-dumps every time we meet new characters, the constant mooning between Susan and Dresden, even despite everything, the fact that, when he's describing how he feels and things, he keeps going for two paragraphs after I'm like "yeah, ok, I get it"...
But, hey, maybe it's just 'cause I sort of know what's coming 'cause people can't not spoil things. *shrug*
Geekomancy has it's moments, though I'm not really digging the lead, though I'm liking Drake so I'm hoping he sticks around for the rest of the book.
Just started Knights of Dark Renown. It's been ages since I last read Gemmell so I'm really looking forward to this.

I don't hate her or anything, I'm just kinda meh about her.
Just finished A Crown of Swords. Definitely not one of the best books in the series. This is mainly due to some really annoying characters and the uneven pacing that keeps throwing you off, along with the usual Wheel of Time staples. They really annoyed me this time since they ruin what I feel like could've been a great book, the good parts of it are very very good. Thus far I'm having some mixed feelings about it, the plot seems to be taking a really weird turn. But I've been pleasantly surprised by the series before, so we'll see.

I think what Jordan really needed was a strong editor. I love complexity and I'm in no rush to come to the end of a series I'm enjoying but I do need a sense of momentum and that we are making some progress towards some resolution of at least some of the story threads. I felt that Knife of Dreams was a far better book that started to draw all the threads together and showed the promise that Jordan, may he rest in peace, had a plan to get us to the conclusion. I'm not surprised it took us another 3 books to get us there though.

I like the world of WoT enough that I don't mind numerous sidestories, and some of my favourite moments in the book don't actually contribute in any way towards the plot's progress, they're just good literature.
I do enjoy the great descriptions whenever we're taken to a new place, but 1-2 page descriptions of clothing when it just doesn't matter at all are quite annoying and could easily be discarded for a much more pleasant experience.
The series is great as it is (thus far at least), but I can't help thinking it could've been that much better if only Robert Jordan had a good editor.
I read and loved Dragon Actually! One of my favorite PNR's. It was much funnier than I thought it was going to be. Sadly I didn't like the sequels as much though.
Yeah I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. The writing's not very good but the story and characters are enjoyable.
I am reading A Fistful of Sky and loving it! I can not believe I did not know about Nina Kiriki Hoffman until now! I can't wait to discover all of her books!
I recently picked up A Feast for Crows again and today I started with The Emperor's Soul. I'm 600 pages in Feast and the last 200 pages were just boring, the plot doesn't really seem to move. But I love his writing style so I can't stop reading.
About 3/4 through
and really enjoying it. The only other time I read this book was back in middle school, so it's all fresh to me pretty much. :)
Just finished Mockingjay and I must say I'm actually impressed. Most people seem to think of it as the weakest in the series, and while it definitely isn't the best, I found that it ended the series in a really nice way (maybe a bit too neatly for my taste, actually).The one major issue I had with it is that while Katniss' POV works remarkably well in the first two books, it really doesn't fit the scope of the third too well. Currently reading The Path of Daggers and 150 pages later... nothing really has happened. I'd be alright if it weren't for the characters involved, but I must say it's been an uphill battle even knowing the pace would slow down dramatically in this book.
Will probably start The Hobbit tomorrow. Having never read Tolkien I'm quite excited to finally get around to it!
After a Dresden Files Cold Days break, I'm back to the Black Dagger Brotherhood with Lover Unleashed.
Finished Too Many Curses. I really enjoy A. Lee Martinez's books. The ones I've read so far have been excellent.Now I'm reading The New World which will lead into The Knife of Never Letting Go. I want to see if the are appropriate for my kids to read.
I am finally getting to Neverwhere byNeil Gaiman and enjoying it very much.It seems familiar. Was there a movie made of it?

I finished my GR yearly challenge, so I'm taking it easy and slowly reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard in between catching up on the stack of magazines I've got backed up.
I am reading (amongst other books) Days of Blood and Starlight. 600 pages and most of the action happens off scene but somehow I still find myself enjoying it.
Just finished The Hobbit and wow I was blown away. It's a lot better than I expected and I'm definitely going to read through the LOTR series as soon as possible. It's mind blowing how this was first published in 1937. One of my favourite reads of 2012 for sure! Feel free to check out my full review here.

It definitely isn't as magic as it could've been had I read it as a kid or before reading as much fantasy as I have, but if you can judge it taking into account how long ago it was written and ignoring all the hype I don't think you'll be disappointed. The writing is good enough that even though the fantasy elements it contains have now been done to death it's still a pleasant ride.
I love reading the Hobbit. So much fun! Reading as an adult can be fun, too. It does loose some of its magic but I re-read it with The Tolkien Professor this year. http://www.tolkienprofessor.com/wp/

Yes, you really should read it -- it is not a long book and far brisker than the movie. It, and more importantly LOTR, is one of the foundation works of the entire genre. A solid case could be made that Tolkien founded modern fantasy fiction, the way Shakespeare is the foundation of English literature or Austen the romance novel.
just finished RED COUNTRY joe abercrombiei love his books and i'd rate this about 4or5 favorite from his books
a few of the old gang turn up 9fingers ...now called lamb by the way, caul shivers , glamma golden and cosca and sgt friendly
not much is revealled about where these books are going but the i hope the author has something in mind because there is a lot of scope for a real epic trilodgy to tie things up with all the backstory detail we have now
Just finished The Path of Daggers and this was definitely a hard one to get through. The first two thirds have a LOT of filler and not too much happens, though the last third does sort of make up for that and I just couldn't put the book down til I was done. I came in expecting a slow(er) pace and that's exactly what I got, can't say I'm disappointed overall. Just finished The Children of Men and almost 1/2 way done with Blood Rites.I love that my library has the eBooks of the Dresden Files books, but the wait list can be murder.

It wasn't mine either, entirely by accident I read The Enemy which at that time was chronologically the first but not by order of publication. I then went back and read them all in the order published.
I just chain read over 2000 pages of Game of Thrones goodness by reading A Feast for Crows, A Dance with Dragons: Dreams and Dust and A Dance with Dragons: After the Feast all in one go. Took me just under a month but I loved being immersed back in that world again.
Fancied a change of pace and now opted for World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War and loving very second of it so far. A wonderfully creative way of telling the story.
