Jessica | 68 comments I have never read it either. I read The Fountainhead a long time ago (I should prob give that one another go-round at some point). If we decide to give the book another go, I would def be in.

Funny story about the movie. I went with my family and during the intro my Dad was looking all confused. I secretly rolled my eyes because I figured he was freaking out about some minor dissimilarity with the book. Since it had been a long time since I had read it, I figured I would just enjoy the movie and not try to remember the exact plot. About 15 mins in, I started to look confused too. I could not see how any of the movie had to do with the book. Dad was going through the same thing. After about 20 minutes it dawned on us both (within about 10 seconds of each other because we are just THAT much alike) that we were thinking of The Fountainhead which we had both read, not Atlas which neither of us had ever read. It was pretty funny. We laughed quite a bit to each other once we realized what happened. The rest of the family just shushed us. :)

Oh I LOVE LOVE LOVED A Dog's Purpose. One of my absolute favorite books, right up there with The Art of Racing in the Rain. (yep, I admit it, I am a dog lover, and a sucker for good dog books!) I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Both of those books are "Keep Forever" books on my bookshelf!

Nancy There were some things I really enjoyed about this book and other parts of her politics I couldn't buy after I read some things about her personal life and how she applied her philosophies to her own situation. If I hadn't read that - I might have liked it better. She certainly was an interesting person. Then again, many of the attitudes about her personally are a matter of opinion. So how much weight do I give them?

[book:The Art of Racing in the Rain
is one of my favorite books, along with the quote from this book "That which we manifest is before us: we are the creators of our own destiny." ~Garth Stein

I loved this book so much! Garth Stein has a pretty big following. Also , I did not know that this was a movie, with Patrick Dempsey in it, 2009! And I missed it?

I also love dogs, just adopted our second rescue basset hound. We adopted our first a week before Christmas, after we lost our beautiful basset boy Ralphie very suddenly. I'm kinda glad my rescue babies can't talk, because I know they would bring tears, just like Enzo..

Nancy Actually Linda, I don't think you've missed it. I loved that book too and couldn't believe I had missed it?? So I did a little search. What I found said it is "in development" with intentions to release in 2012.

Linda | 443 comments Ahhh, my dear friend, thank you for sparing my sanity! A thing or two might get past me.... but this particular book, made into a movie with the one and only "McDreamy- Patrick Dempsey" would really have made me think I'm losing it if that got past me!

Nancy hehe Linda! There's a few stud muffins that can't escape the radar!

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) A dreadful stupid book. I had heard so much about this book and Rand I assumed I'd be reading an interesting and challenging book. Instead it became sillier and sillier and sillier. It's "classic" status is the only reason I finished it. Polemics are so boring. Sentences were repeated over and over as if they were holy writ. Often characters acted out screamingly obvious messages of diatribe rather than dialogue. The people I was obviously supposed to love and admire because I was so explicitly directed to do so left me scratching my head as to why those attributes were admirable. The evil lazy workers who reacted to the companies falling to pieces by not worrying over much or working any more were completely unbelievable. In this latest recession that is really occurring right now I see many thousands of desperately scared workers. This book is so laughable and dumb I found myself breaking out in sudden guffaws. If I didn't know the history of it I would have thought it a very bad satire of some kind. I had the same feeling at the end as I did when I googled Scientology and discovered aliens in volcanoes.

I read this when I was doing my under grad[1st yr] and I totally identified with the philosophy of 'individualism' until I grew up and began to read a lot more non-fiction.It seemed a bit excessive then.
