May - What are you currently reading?
Melanie wrote: "BJ Rose wrote: "So far, the only other ..."BJ, you should try the two I mentioned (they're really light and so funny!! :-p)
On another hand, I want to recommend
(and sadly ignored Kristin Lavransdatter 1: The Wreath in the process!), and I have the other JC books on my wishlist, along with so many others, but I think I'll move them up a little.I also have Lord of the Fading Lands on my wishlist, but after these recommendations from you and Yz, I'm moving them to the top of the list - Thanks!!
I just started Moon Called
, the first Mercy Thompson book. It came highly recommended so I'm excited about reading this series.
D.G. wrote: "I also finished reading Running with Scissors. Gosh those people were crazy!"Of course in later interviews Mr. Burroughs admits that it 'might have happened a little differently than that'. Also, interviews with all the other people involved have refuted several events in his book. An entertaining read, but take it with a grain of salt.
Just started (before work... that's real smart of me, lol)Judgment in Death.. Heard there's a big jealousy thing going on with Roarke in this one... Sounds like it's gonna be fun! ;-p
I just finished The Grapes of Wrath and felt like I had been hit by a bus! This book was amazing on so many levels, I can't believe I got away without reading it in college (English major!). One can't help but compare the Joad family's trials with today's economic troubles (unemployment/under-employment, foreclosures), as well as the situation of today's migrant workers (illegal or otherwise).I'm now reading Brideshead Revisited. I saw the movie version recently with Emma Thompson. The book is really good so far and takes on some controversial themes (especially for the time it was written).
Finished listening to Undead and Unwed yesterday. Despite having a very ditzy heroine and some pretty eye-rolling scenes (the boinking in the pool...LOL), it was quite funny enough to entertain me. Will probably be on the lookout for the next book.Started Heart of the Sea, third book in the Ardmore trilogy. I'm listening to this with a little trepidation, because I don't really like the heroine based on the previous two books. Find her too shallow and materialistic. Hope she will be presented better in her book.
I finished George Shuman's Second Sight
on the bus home from work last night. I dropped the book in my bag, pulled Rob Thurman's Nightlife
out of the bag, opened up to my bookmarked page and looked up to find another passenger watching me. He just laughed and said, "I can tell you read a lot." The expression on his face was priceless.

The end scene where the girl who just lost her baby is breastfeeding the starving dad, bawled my head off. I'm getting teary eyed just thinking about it.
I've got Brideshead Revisited on audiobook (library sale). I never watched the TV show just heard it was good. Let us know what you think about it.
Carolyn F. wrote: "Sandy wrote: "I just finished The Grapes of Wrath and felt like I had been hit by a bus! This book was amazing on so many levels, I can't believe I got away without reading it in colleg..."SPOILER ALERT
I know! That last scene was just heartwrenching! And her "mysterious smile," what is that about? I think maybe she has been driven insane by her living conditions and the death of her baby. I'm sure there are LOTS of interpretations though!
Yz the Whyz wrote: "Melanie: I've finished reading the first two books of Wilson's Tairen Soul series, and I have to agree with you it is lovely. Can't wait to read more of it."I have this series on my TBR and I'm trying to fit the first one in the "game" challenge. I can't quite tell if it can be considered for "risk"???
Penney wrote: "I have this series on my TBR and I'm trying to fit the first one in the "game" challenge. I can't quite tell if it can be considered for "risk"??? ."I would say it would fit under "Chess". The heroine is declared as the future "queen" and there are plenty of royalty in the book, so to speak.
Yz - I finished listening to undead and unwed yesterday as well...at first, I had to stop and ask my friend who has read the books, if she was supposed to sound so ditzy...when she said yes, I started to enjoy it! not sure if i'll see the others out...but would be interesting to hear more about Sink-clair...Yz the Whyz wrote: "Finished listening to Undead and Unwed yesterday. Just started The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for my dead author book. It's been awhile, but it still makes me laugh.

The movie is good but the book is so much better.
Finished
last night. So so good! This series just gets better! I have all my reading set for the remainder of the month, but I fought a huge battle with myself to not just ditch my challenges for the next book. But I was good and started
. It's "meh" so far and I'm over halfway in. Since I'll be done later, I'll start
. I enjoyed Vampire Academy earlier in the month, and I'm hoping that the series gets better...
Ashley, I can so relate to wanting to ditch the challenges. I am DYING to move on in the Outlander series! I want to read the BDB books too when I'm done with Outlander. So many books, so little time!
Sandy wrote: "Ashley, I can so relate to wanting to ditch the challenges. I am DYING to move on in the Outlander series! I want to read the BDB books too when I'm done with Outlander. So many books, so little time!"Oh yeah! I bought Outlander and haven't started it yet...I think I'll have to do that one next month!
Photojim wrote: "Of course in later interviews Mr. Burroughs admits that it 'might have happened a little differently..."Oh I don't believe that everything that happened there was real...but if even a 5th of what went on in that book is the truth, then definitely those people are crazy. And given how everybody was portrayed in that book, I'm sure they would be denying it whether it was true or not.
After savoring a little more of the BDB Insider's Guide and finishing a couple of novellas, I'm now moving on to Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas. I've really been looking forward to finally starting the Wallflowers.:-)
I just finished Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. It was a wonderful story. Intense, sad, heartbreaking, disturbing. This would be a great read for anyone interested in reading about the Holocaust.

Thanks! Just added to my TBR. Have you read The Book Thief? If not, highly recommended, also set during WWII.
Read somewhere between a third to a fourth of Thurman's Nightlife
and it just wasn't what I wanted so I switched back over to Mayer & Crusie's Wildride
[image error]
. I'm really enjoying it now, reminds me of how much I loved Agnes and the Hitman
by the same pair. I'll probably finish this tonite.
Finished Kristin Lavransdatter 1: The Wreath - after a slow start, it was really good, and I am (surprisingly) looking forward to reading book 2 next month. But after all that angst, I needed something lighter, so am now thoroughly enjoying Aunt Dimity's Death, which was recommended by a good friend.

My husband I used to watch the TV version. I do have the book but still haven't read it; I'll have to get to it soon. We loved the series, especially the robot, which we thought was just hilalrious! We loved it almost as much as Dr. Who with Tom Baker. (okay, my age is showing.)
