Ez (ezrah-rah) *This is inspired by a challenge started by Moderatrix Lori in another group here on Good Reads.

Basically, the idea is that if you finish a book and find yourself unsure about what to read next, or you want someone to pick for you just for the heck of it, you can post to ask for a recommendation.

The Rules

1) Post your request. The book recommendation has to be something already on your to-read list, but you can make the request as specific as you want. For example, you can say, “pick something from my romance shelf” or “pick any book as long as it’s not listed under a challenge tag” or even “I’m torn between these three books, help me choose.”
2) You have to read the first recommendation posted. (So, if you want to make a recommendation for someone, make sure you refresh the thread to make sure someone hasn’t already beaten you to it.) If there is more than one recommendation made at the same time - for example, you see that Jane and Ann posted their comments exactly five minutes ago - then you can choose between them.
3) If you want the book to be strictly from a certain genre (paranormal, historical, contemporary, etc.), please make sure to specify that in your request. If not, any book on your to-read list is fair game.

And that’s it! I thought it was a fun idea for the people who didn’t necessarily want to participate in the longer/bigger challenges. In a couple of the other groups I’m in there are monthly pick-it-for-me challenges and I think the idea of having someone else choose for you is fun. I hope you all like the idea.

NOTE: There is no specific timeframe for this challenge. Once you get your recommendation, you can take as long as you need to read it. This is an ongoing challenge, not a monthly one, so you can post to ask for recs as fast as you can read them. :)

Pick It For Me. A book from my paranormal shelf. Most like it one of Christine Feehan's books. I have six of them on that shelf. I have more paranormal books, but haven't listed them. I would have to find them amongst my books.

I don't really read paranormal, but I'll try it.

Please don't pick a book that's erotic or have detailed sex (Body parts are alive) scenes in them.

Arch,

I'd suggest Safe Harbor because I've heard that her Drake sisters books are good. The only thing is, I haven't read them yet, so I can't say how erotic/detailed they are. They're definitely not meant to be erotica or anything, but I know that scenes in some paranormal romances can be pretty graphic. I saw that Danielle has read/reviewed it, so maybe she can tell you?

message 4: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) I`ve read quite a few Carpathians and the sex scenes are what I would call super steamey, but not erotica, and I think the stories are quite dark compared to some of the other PNR writers.
I liked her first books until she started filling them up with every were known to man-LOL
I like Kresley Coles Immortals After Dark,I think only one book has a were featured, and they do have a little bit of every other creature that the others stuff with weres.

message 5: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. So I pick a Christine Feehan book? Is that how it works?

Okay, lets look at another shelf of mine.

Pick a book from my Linda Howard shelf that I haven't read yet.

Angel Creek is a get back to book for me. So overlook that one.

message 7: by Ez (new)

Ez (ezrah-rah) I like the IAD series, too. The sex scenes are pretty hot, though, so I wouldn't recommend them for someone looking for clean romance.

I haven't read anything by Feehan yet, but I'll be reading the first two in her Drake Sisters series for challenges this month. I'm going to try out her Ghost Walkers series, too.

I like the leave it to the imagination love scenes. Fade away love scenes too.

To me, Reno and Jilly's love scenes in Fire and Ice were leave it to your imagination love scenes.

Sam and Alyssa's love scenes were leave it to your imagination love scenes.

I don't like love scenes that's graphic, erotic or even erotica.

I don't need to read about body parties that are alive below the waist.

I don't want to read sex talk.

Ez (ezrah-rah) Carolyn F. wrote: "So I pick a Christine Feehan book? Is that how it works?"

Carolyn, I'd already posted a rec for Arch by Feehan, but it looks like she'd prefer a rec from her Linda Howard shelf instead. If you want, you can pick a book for her to read from that shelf in her profile.

If you want someone to choose a book for you, just make your own post. For example, you can post a comment asking for someone to pick the next book for you to read from your romance shelf (or whatever other shelf you want).

Oh no, sorry Harper. I didn't mean to overlook your suggestion. I'll read your suggestion. Wait, I just read some of Danielle's review. I don't do books about witches.

Can you please pick another book for me? How about picking a book from my to read shelf. :)

message 11: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Okay, I should have been more up to date on my TBR shelf, but anyway. I really don't mind any subject matter. I like pretty much all genres. Although I will say for me, the more romance the better. You can pick from my TBR shelf or you can recommend something I haven't already read but would think I would like. I don't mind series. Um, I think that's it.

Sure thing! Let me check out your shelves again. (Sorry it took me a while to get back to you, I was at the doctor.)

Since I'm picking for Arch, does anyone want to make a recommendation for Carolyn?

message 14: by Ez (new)

Ez (ezrah-rah) Okay, Arch, how about Perfect Chemistry? It's YA romance. I've heard that it's really good and not graphic. It's actually been on my TBR for a while, but I haven't read it yet.

Oh, Harper I don't own that book and my library doesn't carry it.

That book was recommended to me. I have to go and create a recommended shelf now, because I don't own any of the books that were recommended to me.

Please don't get tired of me, pick another book. Any book you see that just say to read is a book that was recommended to me.

Okay, Arch, I'll try again. LOL. Give me a couple of specific shelves you want me to choose from and I'll pick a book from one of them.

Would you mind picking a recommendation for Carolyn F., since no one else has responded?

I have a question. What do we do, if we can't finish a book? I know that I have started reading books and couldn't finished it and I put that book to the side and put it on my can not finish shelf.

message 20: by Ez (new)

Ez (ezrah-rah) It's okay if you can't finish. If I can't finish a book chosen for me, I just put it on my "could not finish" shelf and call it a day. LOL.

Ez (ezrah-rah) Okay, I'm glad we finally found one. LOL. I also saw "Snowflower and the Secret Fan" on your shelves. That was a good book.

I was on a reading group and that was the book for the group. I've found it at the library last year. There was more than one on the shelf too.

Ez (ezrah-rah) Thanks for picking a book for Carolyn, Arch! I hope that more people start to participate. I think it's fun to have someone else pick a book for you.

Carolyn F. Okay, I'll read the Katie MacAlister book - just got to find it in my literal TBR shelf.

Danielle, these two books are on your TBR and I've read and enjoyed them both. First Comes Marriage and Mr. Cavendish, I Presume. Now you've got to find them too :)

Danielle's Pick it For Me Challenge Read #1: First Comes Marriage by Mary Balogh

message 35: by Ez (new)

Ez (ezrah-rah) Hello, ladies. For this challenge there aren't actually assigned partners. If you need/want someone to recommend a book for you to read from your TBR pile, you just make a post and you read the book recommended by the first person to respond. Know what I mean? It's not the same as the "pick it for me" challenge in the RRRC group where you're assigned a random partner and have to choose for each and read the book within the month. There'd have to be another thread for that, if enough people wanted to do it. I think that's what Carolyn had originally suggested, but this is a bit different.
