MaryAnn Kempher (mkempher) | 23 comments How do you feel about Agatha Christie? I've written a romantic suspense novel. I tried to emulate her and Jane Austen. Not copy, just keep them in mind. They are my favorite authors. Mocha, Moonlight, and Murder will be released soon. WhooHoo. :)

My sister-in-law is from CO. The family goes to Cripple Creek a few times a year. It is still intact as an old time town and now has gambling. But they have all the info on the history there and I think they have a few websites. If you check the photos out there you will see it is definitely stuck in time. Hope that helps. Cant wait to read your books when they come out.

Kayt18 | 21 comments Hello my name is Kay and I have been snooping on this group for a while. Just never introduced myself. I love cozies. I used to read lots of other types of books. I loved nonfiction most. But a while back I was diagnosed with m/s and along came some cognitive issues. I was no longer able to read the things I loved. I drifted from romance, historical romance, mystery, historical mystery and then by accident stumbled upon cozies. Even before I knew what they were called I fell in love with them. They are the perfect books for me now. And I love finding new series. Hope you guys dont mind that I have been snooping and probably will continue to do so. Goodreads is amazing and so is this group.

Cripple Creek, along with Central City & Blackhawk used to be pristine little towns from the past. IMHO, gambling has taken a lot away from all 3. Can't remember the last time I've been to any of them, other than to drive through on the way to somewhere else. I don't gamble much, but when I do I like to go to Vegas to do it!

I grew up in Northern Michigan, lived in Chicago for quite awhile and am now living outside of Boston with my husband, 3 kiddos, corgi and cat. They keep me quite busy, but I still manage to read a couple of books per week :) I've found a ton of new books and authors from you all - thanks so much!

Anna, I suggest you read Ann Parker's mystery series set in Leadville in the late 1800s for ideas.

Jenny | 1 comments My name is Jenny and I live in Melbourne,Australia. I have just joined Goodreads and was very happy when I found this group. Some books i have recently read are Quilters knot, Quilt by association, and Mai Tai one on.Quilting is my other passion. I look forward to winter snuggled under a quilt reading by the fire.

message 2328: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Graham | 8 comments Hi Jenny, As a quilter who writes or a writer who quilts, I welcome you. I design a different mystery quilt for each book but they have nothing to do with the solution of the mystery. I think one of the fun things about the cozy genre is all the different hobbies, or in the case of Beth Groundwater's books, outdoor adventure, that we can experience without getting off the couch.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Welcome Jenny from a fellow Melbournian. :) You'll have no shortage of book suggestions from this group for your winter reading! lol

message 2331: by Melissa (last edited Apr 17, 2013 08:12AM) (new)

Melissa | 324 comments Hi, I'm Melissa from IL. I started out really into a lot of thriller/suspense type books (Dean Knootz, Stephen King) but got into cozies some years back and now that is my favorite genre. I guess I started with Diane Mott Davidson, Joanne Fluke, Denise Swanson, and Lesile Meier.

I have expanded a lot since then and now I also have a ton of cozies that I've bought and haven't read yet. I'm really looking forward to starting the Kate Collins flower shop mysteries as those are set in a town in Indiana not far from me, but they're still in the pile right now.

I also like some vampire stuff, I read the Laurell K. Hamilton vampire series (completely not cozy), and also police/psychological mysteries like Jonathan and Faye Kellerman's stuff.

I joined goodreads to organize my books since I kept buying duplicates. I still have a ton to enter! But I'm also looking forward to getting some good book suggestions.

Cindy (cindy120) Hi, I'm Cindy and I live in sunny Florida with my husband of 31 years. I have a grown son and a very spoiled kitty named Gregory. He is our furrkid.

I love to read all genres of books but cozies are a favorite. After reading a suspense filled thriller, it's always nice to relax with a good cozy! :)

Looking forward to being part of this group and discovering new cozy authors.

Becky Cook (hikerbecky) | 2 comments Hi Becky here from Phoenix, AZ. My sister got me hooked on Cozy Mysteries with the Cleo Coyle. Currently I am reading Assault with a Deadly Glue Gun by Lois Winston. I am enjoying it. My next book, however is not a cozy, I am going to take on Gone Girl. I'll let you know how it goes.

message 2337: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 4 comments Hi! I haven't been in the group for a long time so, I'm just beginning to adjust. So, I enjoy books about death (mainly). And though this may sound extremely evil, I really don't believe that there is anything such as 'good'. This is because, everyone in the world has an idea that they are 'good'and work hard to destroy evil, I personally think that if you are capable of destroying such an evil force, then you are equally or even more evil then the one that you are destroying. (It's colder than I anticipated today.)

Becky, I'll be interested to see what you think of Gone Girl. I posted my own thoughts on it, but I'd recommend not reading any reviews until you finish the book. It's definitely not cozy, but as a cozy writer myself, I enjoy a little change once in a while.

MaryAnn Kempher (mkempher) | 23 comments Hi ladies. My name is MaryAnn. I love to read anything written by Agatha Christie. I've read all her Hercule Poirot books.

I live near Tampa Fl, but lived in Reno NV when I was a teenager.

My debut novel, Mocha, Moonlight, and Murder is set in Reno. Not trying to push my book on you, but since you love a good mystery--mine might be something you'd enjoy reading

Wouldn't hurt to check out the link right?

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Brie, I just read and was pleasantly surprised by, the Henry Press book Front Page Fatality.

I've also read another Henry Press, Other People's Baggage - an anthology of three novellas - two are 'prequels' to firsts-in-series: Switch Back is the prequel to Board Stiff, and Fool's Gold, the prequel to Artifact. I have Bored Stiff on order, and I'll be ordering Artifact soon, based on how much I enjoyed the novella.

I live in Florida, but grew up in Wisconsin and went to school there and in NJ and NY. I've written about all of these experiences. One was even a cozy my husband and I co-wrote. That's us line dancing at our daughter's wedding!

Looking forward to being in this group.

Victoria_Grossack Grossack (victoriagrossack) | 107 comments Hello, everyone! I have read every book by Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, all the mysteries by M.M. Kaye and Donna Leon... for a start. I admit I also wrote a cozy in which I did my best to channel Jane Austen and Agatha Christie (more on that in an appropriate thread).

Why are cozies so addictive? I look forward to finding out.

Victoria, I have also read everything by Christie and Sayers - and MM Kaye, which I loved at the time but had forgotten about! thanks for listing her to followers of this group so they can enjoy her also.
by chance, since you mention Jane Austin, have you read Stephanie Barron's mysteries which are fiction but feature Jane as the heroine who solves the mysteries? I enjoyed them very much.

I recently picked up a book from the Cat Who series by Lillian Jackson Braun & am looking forward to reading it soon.
