Lynn Hi,
My name is Lynn and I love to read mysteries. My favorite genre is the cozy mystery. I do like police procedurals too. Currently my favorite cozies are by MC Beaton, Ellery Adams(Books By the Bay), Charlotte MacLeod, Paige Shelton(Country Cooking School),Mary Daheim(Emma Lord)and Susan Wittig Albert(The Darling Dahlias) When I get too cozied, I will read a Myron Bolitar by Cohen or an Elvis Cole by Crais. Would read a British police procedurals at this time too.
Looking forward to reading information in this cozy group. It is nice to be with other cozy readers too!

I love that series, Katrina! I haven't read the most recent books, but I read many of them. I love that so much happens in the post office, ha!

I bought that book a few years ago but gave it to my Mom before I read it. I'm going to have to go and get myself another copy. This series has always intrigued me.

Wow - all you writers - I'm so impressed. One of these days . . . . .

message 2266: by Linda (new)

Linda Hello ~ I've been a member of the cozy mystery group for quite a while, but never introduced myself as a cozy writer. My first cozy, Some Enchanted Murder: An Apple Mariani Mystery, is debuting next month.

I love being a part of this group -- it's such a fun way to meet my fellow cozy mystery aficionados. Your reviews and observations have a great deal of influence on me, and I often add to my TBR pile based on someone's positive comments. There are so many fabulous cozies out there, and unfortunately not enough time . . .

If you live in snowy New England like me, have a safe weekend ~

Richard Houston | 13 comments I'd like to introduce myself. I've been a avid reader of mysteries for some time and only recently realized there was a category called Cozy Mysteries. This realization hit me when my book hit #3 in Amazon's Cozy Mystery list. I didn't know I had written a Cozy, but I'm not surprised. It's the kind of book I like to read. I dislike violence and graphic sex and author's who think every adjective must start with an F.

I'm really looking forward to this group's recommendations on what to read.

message 2271: by Karen (new)

Karen Hi, this is long overdue, but my name is Karen. While I love all mystery novels, my favorites are all by Agatha Christie. She is a classic, and no one has surpassed her on my list of Mystery Writers. My first mystery series was Nancy Drew, so, being only fourteen, I look out for a mystery wherever I go. Although, many things do go missing, I have yet to actually tackle a real case, but I can keep dreaming!

message 2272: by MaryJo (new)

MaryJo Dawson | 857 comments welcome Richard and Karen. Richard I see you have some of the same philosphy that I do when it comes to writing and I will certain add A View to Die For to my reading list.

L.A. Frazier (lynn2671) | 2 comments Hi, I'm L A Frazier and I really enjoy reading Cozy Mysteries. Nothing like coming home after a long day to a story that makes your laugh, warms your heart and has a little suspense in it. I am always open to any suggested titles!

I started with Janet Evonavich's Stephanie Plum and never looked back!

In interest of full disclosure - I also wrote one (we write what we read!) but promise to not use this group to self promote.

Vickie Pettee (vickiepettee) Hi, I'm Vickie Pettee from Louisiana. I've traveled the world and I never leave home without something to read.

I'm an avid reader of mysteries and international intrigue. Was an early adopter of ebooks when I discovered I could reduce my luggage weight.

In the spirit of disclosure, I am a debut author - but not promoting here. Because of my self-publishing research, I just discovered Goodreads. I plan to spend some time updating my book shelf with all the good stuff I've read. And I look forward to discovering new interest here.

Tina (tinacz) | 236 comments Thanks, Briansgirl. I'm Tina, mystery lover from way back. Cut teeth on Nancy Drew then graduated to Christie. Most recently, I've written a few whodunits & screenplay adapted them. Currently I'm in various stages of producing Deadwaiter, the 2nd in my series. A production co. is currently reviewing the 1st. Love most mystery sub genres but definitely prefer cozies.

Judith Mehl (jmehl) | 5 comments As a new member of the group I wanted to introduce myself. I love cozies, and most all mystery/suspense books. I'm an author and my name is Judith Mehl (http://www.judymehl.com) My two mysteries, "Formula for Murder" and "Game, Set, Murder" feature an amateur sleuth who uses handwriting analysis to pinpoint the killers where she lives and works in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. They are a fun and informative read and what you learn about handwriting may change you forever.
These two books are available Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16 on Kindle. Please try them and review. I've been told the second one, "Game, Set, Murder" is more gripping than the first. Let me know what you think.

Katherine Hyde (kbhyde) | 1 comments ஐ Briansgirl (Book Sale Queen)ஐ wrote: "A place to introduce yourself to the group. :)"

Hi, all,
I'm Katherine. My first love is Golden Age British detective fiction—what I call my "dead Englishwomen": Dorothy Sayers, Margery Allingham, Patricia Wentworth, Ngaio Marsh, Josephine Tey. I'm a stickler for good writing and a properly crafted plot, so a lot of contemporary cozies disappoint me. I do like the Maisie Dobbs series, which may not be technically "cozy" since Maisie is a pro. If anyone knows other writers you think I might like, please let me know!

Jan | 3 comments Hi my name is Jan. I live in Las Vegas, NV -- I am an avid reader since I've been old enough to hold a book. I grew up in Colorado and my parents took me to the library every weekend. My first mysteries were Agatha Christie novels & I've been loving mysteries every since.

I recently discovered the Goodreads website and am just losing my mind exploring it. A book lover's dream come true and I try to sign on whenever I have the time and add books I've read & ones I want to read. My to-read list is sooo huge but brings me great joy!

I do love cozies, along with mysteries of all types so this book group really appeals to me. Some of my favorite cozy authors include Diane Mott Davidson, Lillian Jackson Braun (my cat, Cody, insists upon reading these!), Joanna Fluke, and especially Cleo Coyle since I think coffee is as important as chocolate in one's life in order to enjoy a good mystery!

I read a lot across many genres and some of my favorite authors include Nevada Barr, Dana Stabenow, Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Louise Erdrich, and James Rollins to name just a few. About the only genre of book I do not particular get excited about are biographies and nonfiction.

This is the first book club I've ever belonged to and I am looking forward to making some new friends and discovering some great books!

Hi, I am Evgeny from Montreal. When I was in high school, I discovered Agatha Christie (and almost failed my finals as a result). Since when I was a big fan of good mysteries.

I hope to find other mystery writers in this group, as well as have discussions on this.

Jan | 3 comments Hi Taylor- I'm new to the group as well! I love mystery & thrillers as well. Right now I'm reading James Rollins' - The Devil's Colony. I don't always like all of his books but this one is very good!

What are the names of some of the authors you like?

Welcome, Jan - sounds like we have some likes in common. I just finished the latest Mercy Thompson over the weekend, and my least favorite genres include biographies, nonfiction and horror. My family also lived in Colorado (Brush/Otis) for a few years when we were kids, before moving back to Wisconsin. Have only been back there once since, for a conference in Denver about a decade ago.

message 2294: by Céline (new)

Céline (cbceline) hi all,
I'm Celine, I joined Goodreads a few years ago but wasn't really active until a few months ago. I joined this group to see if anyone has some good recommendations for mystery novels, since I've been reading fantasy/YA for a while now and thought I'd go back to mystery, which I also love!

message 2295: by MaryJo (new)

MaryJo Dawson | 857 comments welcome, Celine. can you be more specific, as to the type of mysteries you gravitate toward? if you like those in the cozy gendre, you can go to other threads here and get the impression of others here who have read them, Joanna Flukes' books, Kate Kingsburys', and many many others. there are also the classic pioneers, like Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, Ngaio Marsh, Josephine Tey, whose characters are more in-depth as they write great mysteries.
great mystery writers like Dick Frances, Rex Stout, and others are usually not considered cozies, as well as Patricia Cornwall, for example, because their stories are more intense.
is that more advice that you bargained for? :]

Welcome, Celine. A good place to look for new authors is the "Featured Author" section of the group, the "What Cozy Mystery are you currently reading? " discussion in the Cozy Corner, or just browse the group bookshelf.

Beth | 616 comments Welcome to this cozy group, Celine, Taylor, Evgeny, Jan, Katherine, and Chel!

Jan, if you enjoy reading Colorado mystery authors, besides myself (my outdoorsy RM Outdoor Adventures series is similar to Dana Stabenow's and early Nevada Barr books), I recommend Laura DiSilverio, Margaret Coel, Christine Goff, Mike Befeler, Kathy Brandt, and Robert Spiller.

Katherine, I recommend Rhys Bowen's historical mystery series to you.

Hi Beth, Jan and others who read about mysteries set in Colorado. I'd like to set one of my Hattie Davish mysteries in Colorado. As the books are set in the late 19th century, I'm looking for a town that still has a lot of intact Victorian era architecture. I went to Leadville when I was a teenager but don't know what it's like today. Any suggestions?
