ARE YOU A ONE BOOK AT A TIME READER?

I read more than one book at a time. Now if I really get into a really good book, it may take over my life for a bit until I finish it. But I like to have a few going at a time. I have one on my nook and a DTB as well.

I always keep my favorite book near me so I can glance through it. I just cannot stick to one book....there are just too many to choose from!
Sometimes, one, sometimes two books at a time. Since I have so many books lying around, it is hard to just stick to one.

same as me Robin- I switch between one at a time- then suddenly I am reading 4 or 5 at a time (like now)- love reading and recommending James Mason Member Writer books! Too many great books do not get the attention they deserve

I'm generally a one book at a time reader so that I can be in one world at a time and I don't get confused. But sometimes if a book isn't as absorbing, I'll read another one along with it.This tends to get in the way though cause if I'm reading something for school I don't like to read anything else because it might affect how well I can remember the school reading.
I normally have three or four books going at a time. I read mostly history or biographies/autobiographies, but occassionally I'll read some fantasy or a crime novel/true crime book. I just jump back and forth. I have three history books going right now...one a Vietnam memoir, one about the American Revolution, and one on medieval Japan.
I can't read just one.
Edit...just finished the Vietnam memoir. Now I'm reading Audie Murphy's memoir.
I tend to read one book at a time unless a friend loans me a book from the library (a new release from an author). Then I'll jump right into that book and give it top priority. My TBR pile is big too. I got a massive amount of books from the RWA conference last year and I can't stop buying books for 1.00.
I think I might be a book-a-holic.
Oh, and they're all paperbacks. I still love to hold books in my hands. Call me old fashioned and I'm fine with that :o)
I used to read only one book at a time but now I generally read two at a time. I usually have a physical book that I'll read at home but when I'm out and about I'll read a different book on my nook.
I usually read one book at a time, when I can find the time to make myself read books. I find that I finish a book that way. If I start reading two or more at a time, the one that interests me most will get my attention, and the others will go lacking.
It really depends on what's going on in my life, how busy I am. I usually like to read one book at a time, but if I'm reading a classic or a long, relatively serious book I may want to break it up with a light fun read before I finish.
Usually it's one at a time since I tend to finish in a day and a half. There are exceptions. Longer books, like Gabaldon's, I will relish for nearly a week but I only start on mutiple books if I am bored with what I started first or have down time and for some ungodly reason didn't bring my current book with me.
It's interesting to see everyone's different approaches. I'm a big multi-tasker at work, but in my book reading I'm a one-at-a-time type guy. Sometimes I get tempted to do more, because my TBR list is endless, but I've found the one-at-a-time approach works best for me.
I like to read one book at a time, but when I find another book that I just can't wait til I'm done with the one I'm reading. I'll read two or three at a time. That's why I stay away from Barnes N Noble when I'm reading a book, so that I don't get another book and just focus on one at a time. :)PS- Love Barnes N Noble
interesting how I switch back and forth- sometimes reading 3-4 books at a time- then for weeks- just a single book at a time-

Is this a trick question?"
no- more like a "how many books do you feel like reading at the moment" question

More often than not, I am a one book at a time reader. Since I write novels, there are sometimes days between opportunities to read. If I was reading more than one, I'd be horribly lost.

very well said Michael!!!

I read one book at a time so that I can focus on it. One book at a time also ensures that I finish it.
I would love to be able to read more than one book at a time, but I have to keep my head in my writing. Reading a book, playing music from time to time, or watching TV helps from getting so burned out from being inside my fictional worlds.
I can only manage one book at a time. I like to really immerse myself in the story - to live it almost, and trying to follow more than one storyline would distract me.
I like books so much, I'm constantly buying books and pulling books from my girlfriends library. I have them stacked on my nightstand. I don't want to forget I need to make time to read them!

It depends for me. Right now I'm reading two books for the fun of it. I know I have a new book coming from Fed Ex to be reviewed this afternoon. That will be three books. On top of that, I have my own work-in-progress to focus on to make value-added edits. Some days it feels like a ton of characters to keep track of, but I guess that's what they call multi-tasking. And I'm very grateful to be working with the books, what I like the most.

a brisk walk around the block with my Schnauzer usually helps to clear my head of the clutter gathered during the day!

I read 2 books at a time when I'm not too busy. Usually, I read a paperback and an ebook simultaneously.
I'm a multiple book reader, having at least one going on my laptop with Kindle or Nook and one or more in paper (hardcover or paperback). If one is too boring, I pick up another then another then another. I do eventually finish all of the books I start.
I tried reading two books at a time, but ended up putting one down so that I could finish the other. I am a one book at a time reader.
I am definitely a one book at a time person. Very occasionally, I might be reading a book and decide to read something like Hard Times: An Oral History of the Great Depression by Studs Terkel at the same time.

can never go wrong with Terkel!

sounds like a great plan to me- I switch off- sometimes reading a single book- other times reading up to 4 books at a time-fun to go from a modern thriller to a Victorian classic!

This was such a surprising question and then to see the answers. I had no idea people read two, three, four, even five books at a time. What a concept. When I read a book, I am so immersed in it, I never considered reading something else. I re-read passages if I don’t think I have them straight, if a past topic is discussed I go back and re-read that so I have it clear in my mind. I might just have to try two books at a time. Living life on the wild side.

But it is nice to take a break sometimes from a book so you should definitely try it sometime S!
Yes! I have a hard time reading multiple books at one time. I might put a book on pause to read another, but I don't ever shuffle books.
I tend to read more than one book at a time but they also will likely differ from one another. For example, I might be reading a classic mystery at the same time I am reading a nonfiction book on the 1960's.
I used to be a one book at a time reader. But now that I have a Kindle and an ereader on my smart phone, I started doing a 3 book rotation which has turned into a 4 book rotation based on all of the summer reading challenges I have joined! I usually pick one book to concentrate on any given day, depending on looming deadlines or interest. I keep one book by my bed (although it often travels with me too), always have a book on my phone in case I get stuck somewhere... So far it is working pretty well, although I wonder whether I am really reading more books faster, or not! lol
Well, it dependssometime i read multible books, mostly just 2 or 3
or ill read just one
I think it depends on how good a book is, or much i want to read the books
I read one for entertainment, but usually have a few resource books sitting nearby as well. There is so much to learn!
Always three or more at a time. Glutton? Maybe. I crave change and flavor. :)
Definitely a "one book at a time" reader. I'm always amazed by people who can read multiple books and keep the story lines straight.
Sonia wrote: "Always three or more at a time. Glutton? Maybe. I crave change and flavor. :)"Sonia, I'm with you on that. I always have at least three going at the same time. Usually a nonfiction about whatever my current interest is or a biography. I also have a dog book going at all times and generally a fiction that is a light read for pure enjoyment. Sometimes I'll have a volume of short stories going at the same time. And since I have a nook, I usually have something I'm reading on it. Can't help myself - I love reading!!!
Like you Sonia. I have at least 3 books going. I have at least 2 books for my own reading and 1 book that I am reading for the book club I belong to. I just love reading. I'm alway up for someone saying there is a book I should read. So off I am to see about the book. So I find that I'm reading at least 3. Now I know why I have so many to read books on my Kindle
