heya ! how is everyone out there doing ? Recommend me some free books if you can.

message 1816: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished Rhett Butler's People by Donald McCaig by Donald McCaig earlier today. Basically the storyline of the novel is Gone With the Wind from Rhett Butler's point of view and it was a bit of a disappointment really. Gone With the Wind is one of my favourite novels and I found all the characters in RBP, even the major ones of Rhett and Scarlett, are out of character. There is also a lot of errors that contradict the original, characters dying when they lived in GWTW and vice versa, Melanie knowing about Scarlet being in love with her husband, etc. As a standalone historical fiction novel, Rhett Butler's People is okay but as a complement to Gone With the Wind it sucks!

Now I'm about to start The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain by Diane Chamberlain.

I don't blame you! I didn't have a kindle when I read that book and it was not easy to hold. By the time I finished it the thing was falling apart.

message 1823: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 304 comments Gave up on The Bride Stripped Bare - Nikki Gemmell. But has found a delicious book and it's The Way You Look Tonight - Claire Matthews.

message 1824: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain by Diane Chamberlain just a few minutes ago. It's a brilliant read! It took me a couple of chapters to get into this novel but once I did I was hooked! Every time you think you've guessed the big secret, it moves to another level and you realise what you think you've guessed is only a tiny piece of the puzzle. I couldn't put it down!

Next I plan to read Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck by John Steinbeck.

message 1825: by Betsy (last edited Sep 12, 2012 11:59PM) (new)

Betsy Delusion in Death, book 35 in J.D. Robb's "In Death" series. This is one of those call in sick books. I'm so glad I'm retired and don't have to worry about that any longer.

message 1826: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 304 comments This morning I finished The Way You Look Tonight - Claire Matthews, which was a good short story Chick Lit. Now I have finally decided to read Design on a Crime - Ginny Aiken.

I have decided to do an A-Z of Authors over the next 12 months, plus add other books into the mix. Meaning reading at least 2 letters a month if possible.

Hmmm, just thinking that probably was another subconsious reason why it took me so long to start The Fire & Ice series. Waiting on the Digital Library for A Clash of Kings.

message 1830: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Coble (mycropht) | 7 comments Heh. I had to switch to Kindle 3years ago when my arthritis made holding any book prohibitive. I'm just thrilled now that the monster doorstops I most enjoy reading are just as easy to hold as a magazine.

As for what I'm reading now:
Name of the Wind (3rd re-read)
Star Wars On Trial
The Walk Up Nameless Ridge
Radical: Taking Back Your Faith

(I like to have several titles going so I can tailor my reading to my mood.)

message 1831: by Marina (new)

Marina I'm currently reading Sweet Revenge by Andrea Penrose It's been on my reading-next shelf for almost a year and I'm finally getting to it.

message 1832: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) Yesterday I finished reading Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck by John Steinbeck. It's an extremely short but nevertheless fantastic novel. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. The ending is so incredibly moving that I cried while reading it. I truly can't recommend this novel enough. John Steinbeck is an excellent author (and one of my favourite writers)!

Today I've started reading The Future of Us by Jay Asher by Jay Asher.

message 1833: by Jeanie (new)

message 1835: by Gwen (new)

Gwen I'm currently in the process of rereading all of Stephen King's books in publication order. After taking a break for Mira Grant's excellent Newsflesh series, I'm back to Drawing of the Three.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 304 comments Last night I finished Design on a Crime - Ginny Aiken and now I thinking of reading Hostile Witness - Rebecca Forster.

message 1837: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading The Future of Us by Jay Asher by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler earlier today. It's just an young adult romance but it's very entertaining and funny. I loved all the 1990's nostalgia!

Next I'm going to start reading a Stephanie Plum book: Ten Big Ones (Stephanie Plum, #10) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich.

I read Stephen King in publication order and fell in love. The Dark Tower series is incredible. The Stand and The Shining are two of my King favorites.

message 1840: by Betsy (new)

Betsy The Swerve: How the World Became Modern, a history of how civilization changed during the Renaissance, for a GR group read. So far (into Chapter 3) it's very good.

message 1841: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) Yesterday I finished Ten Big Ones (Stephanie Plum, #10) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich. It's the tenth novel in the Stephanie Plum series. This novel had a far more serious and darker tone than the other books. It was a gripping and exciting read with an excellent plot and great characters.

Right now, I'm a couple of chapters into The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier by Ian Serraillier. This is a re-read. I first read in when I was in school. I remember liking it but I don't remember much about the plot.

message 1842: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I managed to finished reading The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier by Ian Serraillier this morning. Now I'm reading The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks by Nicholas Sparks.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 304 comments This morning whilst I laid in bath I finished Hostile Witness - Rebecca Forster, which was not as good as I had expected at the beginning, but near the end it started getting better. Now I am about to embark on Poison Study - Maria V. Snyder which has been recommended to me.

message 1844: by Janet C-B (new)

Janet C-B (goodreadscomjanbookfan) Last night I finished "Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet," which was a library loan. Today I am starting "Empire Falls" by Richard Russo, also a library loan.

message 1845: by Annette (new)

Annette Pitré (annequiet) | 2 comments I'm now reading "The Dome", by Stephen King while doing daily prompts from both "A life in Hand An Illuminated Journal" by Hannah Hinchman, and "Solemate" by Lauren Mackler.

message 1846: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Daily prompts?

message 1847: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks by Nicholas Sparks a few hours ago. The book was a bit of a disappointment really. I've read most of Spark's books and I think I'm too used to his writing style. I found the plot of the story to be extremely predictable and slightly unrealistic. But if you've never read a Nicholas Spark novel before, you'd probably like it.

Now I'm about to start reading Ford County by John Grisham by John Grisham. It's the october monthly read in a Goodreads group I'm in and I want to get a head start on it.

message 1848: by Ann (new)
