With family members that fought in France during WW2 and others that lived there before the war, I'm particularly interested in French aspects.

Just wanted to spread the word about a new Goodreads Group I'm moderating.
It's called 'Espionage Aficionados' and has 334 members.
I alerted everyone there about the fine qualities of this group (World War Two Readers) and I pointed them here with a link in case there's any WWII buffs among them. Just as I did with the other group I mod.
So, I hope its okay to put out a little 'cross-invite' in a post here as I'm doing now.
Here's the link in case anyone would care to join:

Thanks a heap,
Feliks

Anyway, yep. My namesake was not a man who balked when something needed to be done. An individual lacking in every human virtue, except his convictions.

Be prepared to have your TBR list grow exponentally!

Thanks for the welcome, it’s good to be part of the group. I’m very interested World War 2 and all aspects of it. I’ve just made a trip to Bovington Tank Museum, which was amazing to see the only Tiger tank still in existence.

My Dad, who passed away last year at the age of 91, served in the US Navy in both WWII and the Korean war. He served on the the USS Santa Fe. One of my most cherished possessions, taking a place of pride in my china cabinet, is his blue Navy cap from WWII.
Looking forward to discovering some great reads.

Welcome, Kathy. The USS SANTA FE (CL-60) was one of the CLEVELAND-class light cruisers which were best known for speed and heavy AA armament. The class did excellent work throughout the Pacific campaign. My hat is off to your late father.

A nice memento to have of your Dad's service. A great-uncle of mine served with the British Royal Navy Pacific Fleet (which included the Royal Australian, Canadian and New Zealand navies) who served in Admiral Spruance's 5th Fleet and Admiral Halsey's 3rd Fleet seeing action at Okinawa and experiencing many kamikaze attacks. He was very proud of his service alongside the USN at Okinawa.

Welcome, Welcome
Please feel free to add to any of the discussions.
Tnx for the story Kathy, may you treasure the cap always!
AlanB - when I get back to Britain, Bovington is definately on the list to see!

My name is Eric. I'm from Tampa, Florida, USA.
My love of military history began at a very young age whilst sitting on dad's lap as he drank his coffee and smoked his cigarettes.
Dad was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. His brother, my uncle Pete, was also in the Navy during WWII. I had another uncle, Aaron, who had three ships shot out from under him in the South Pacific. He often joked that he spent more time treading water and smacking sharks on their snouts than lying in his bunk.
I have a deep interest in all military history, but WWII and Vietnam are of particular interest to me. The first because of listening to my dad and uncles talk about it as a child. The second because I was a child of that era (late 60s-early 70s).
I'm looking forward to reading and participating here.
Regards,
~Eric
