Welcome to the group,,glad to have you onboard.
Thanks for the welcome. I am looking forward to this group. My father served with the famous U.S. 94th division and at 93 is still alive. He still likes to read books about the War and I am hoping that I can find books in this group he has not read.
Hi everyoneI'm Peter and live in Portugal.
WW2 has always been one of my favorite subjects...
In particular, I'm fascinated about all the technology used in this conflict !

Hi Michael and Peter and welcome to the group, I hope you both find a few things here to keep you interested. Your dad is doing well at 93 and still reading Michael!

Welcome Catalin! My husband and I took a trip to Bucharest and Brasov back in the late 90's and had a great time. We ate mostly at McDonalds as we didn't run across many people who spoke English and we always ordered a "fish mac" and "menu mcnuggets" (fish sandwich and chicken mcnuggets)if I remember rightly. :)
I am so happy to be part of this group. I didn't know it existed until a few moments ago when I was searching a group to join. I started reading about WW II at about 13 and its never stopped. I am particularly interested in submarine warfare. Went to see U-505 in Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. Can't even believe how those men functioned in that space.
Welcome to the group Michael and Peter. Michael, that is so wonderful that you still have your father with you and that he is still active in reading about the war he served in. My dad was in the 94th Bomb Group of the 8th USAAF as a tail gunner.
Peter, I've recently seen some stunning pictures of Portugal. I'm sure there plenty of suggestions from the group on weapons and other warfare technology breakthroughs from that time period.

My dad really wanted to be a part of a submarine crew or in tank warfare during WWII, but his height at well over 6' knocked him out of the running for both those. He was a semi-pro baseball and semi-pro hockey player and the experience he had working as a team member is what drew the attention of the USAAF for training as a bombardier group member.
Hi Geraldine and welcome to the group, glad to see you here. If you haven't already found them here are two threads on naval and submarine warfare:http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/8...

Two of my late German friends served on U-505, and Hans was on it when it was captured. Thilo was the first officer, transferred just before the last mission.

That is interesting Colin, My Father entered Germany 94 days after Normandy relieved the 90th division in Brittany France headed east to Battle of the bulge and then towards the end of the war liberated a Concentration Camp. After the war ended he was still in active duty and spent a year in the Korean Conflict with the 8th armored divison.
Hi - I just joined this group. I am a retired schoolteacher (history and English). My husband and two of our grown daughters live in central Arkansas with the chickens and ducks and dogs and cats and whatever other animal wanders through! One of the best things about retirement is that I can read all the bazillions of books I have bought over the years...I just miss having a class of trapped listeners for my lectures! I am currently reading "Justinian's Flea" and "Moral Combat" (which is an excellent book).
Welcome to the group Tomi! Enjoy your massive amounts of reading time you worked so hard to earn. :)

Hello! I'm new to the group and very new to the genre. I've picked around with military fiction/ non-fiction from different wars but found I have been really interested in WWII lately. I look forward to sharing with y'all.
Hi Will, welcome and hopefully you will find a few books or threads of interest, any questions please ask.
Welcome to the group Will. In my humble opinion, you've picked the most fascinating conflict to learn more about. This is a great group of people here with a wealth of knowledge on the European and Pacific theaters. I'm sure you will find a ton of great suggestions to lead you in the direction you pursue.

Welcome StephenIf you can't find something to read about WW II here, you are trying very hard:)
Feel free to join the converstions.
Welcome Stephen, fantasy and WWII are my favorites too--no lack of great books to explore. Glad to have you here.
Hello All!A recent friend recommended I join and, of course, introduce myself. My name is Jim and have been innately interested in WWII since a child. For some reason the European theater has been more of my tilt. Not sure why. Love our men that served and get extremely emotional regarding the fighter pilots. Again, don't know why. I'm glad to be here and my I say God bless you.

Welcome, J. S.! (I see that you took my recommendation.) As I promised you, you will find this group to be informative, and the people here are second-to-none - the best people on the internet, in my estimation!
I have found that to be true for Goodreads in general. Great people. Thank you for the recommendation, Paul. I look forward to the experience and of course good people.
Hi Jim and welcome to the group. Like you and many others here I also have a fascination for those men who served during WW2 and you may be interested to know that in about a weeks time a few members will be reading and discussing this book:
