I have a comment that has to do with the way we post books. This is the ONLY group where I am required to post a link with the cover of the book. I know a few people use their mobile phones and the cover is small so you can't read it. I am wondering, though, how many people are there that use their mobile phones that much for their goodreads post. I use my desktop, laptop, and my kindle fire. All of those devices have a large enough thumbprint that I can read it easily. Also, you can press on the cover of the book and it will take you to the link. These links are BORING. I am always attracted to the book covers. Also, I have noticed that some folks aren't even using a link!!!! They are typing in the name of the book with no other info, like who the author is. Part of the reason we post here is to find new authors and books and get insight into how people feel about them. I don't see the harm in adding a little flavor by posting the book cover. If you can't read it, press on the image and enlarge it by pinching your screen or tapping on it twice. But, if you are going to post here at least add the link so I will know the name of the book and the author so I can check the book out for myself. I can't do that if you don't give the the author's name. Sorry for the rant, but this WAS one of my favorite groups and now I'm getting frustrated with it. I'm not trying to start any trouble,or offend anyone, but I liked things better when we could post either the link or the cover. I must be in the minority since the rules changed. I just wanted to voice my opinion about the new rule changes. Again, I love this feed , and I will comply with the rules. I just hope we can make it interesting and informative too.

Sorry about the rant.

Jan,
I also saw a few post about book covers being unreadable. But, it was only two people. That was why I asked. I am just more likely to check out a colorful cover than a plain link. We are all different and I respect everyone on this feed. I just liked it better the old way. I haven't had any problems with other groups I am a member of. In fact, nearly all the post are book covers. I don't know if you saw some of the more recent feed post where people wrote in a name of a book with no author name or link. There are so many books with titles that are the similar that I would like to see at least a link. That way if the title sounds interesting I can click on the link and see more about the book. I wasn't going to say anything until I noticed that since the rule change people aren't even posting links anymore. I hope that this group cares enough about me that they will consider my taste as well. If I threaten to leave the group will the rules suddenly shift back? I doubt it. But, for the record, I wasn't trying to be snide , rude or disrespectful to the folks that use their phones for post. I just don't use mine for post and wondered how many people did, since it instigated a rule change. I REALLY didn't mean to offend. Maybe it was the way I worded it. I was just frustrated by the last few post which didn't even have a link and thought, Hey, I'm a member here too, so many I should speak up. Next time I'll keep my opinion to myself. Sorry, Sorry,Sorry. Just forget I said anything.

I wasn't even aware we were required to post a link with the cover of the book. I'm sure I've posted just the title/author link on some of mine and not been told a cover link was required.
Is it a requirement?

I think it's always hard with written notes that may not reflect the tone of the writer - people can take offense. In addition, sometimes people may not be aware of the history of discussions or issues.
Personally, I like having the link and the cover, and if the link does not list the author's name then having that added. I do sometimes use my phone, so having both the title and author name is nice. When I'm on my laptop, I like just being able to click on the link or the cover to get to a description of the book.
But, I'm not wanting to prolong this.

Yes, please lets just drop it. I feel terrible.

I mean, really, this is about posting to a message board! It's not exactly a life or death issue.

And don't get so bent out of shape so easy. Life's too short for that.

Think these mysteries are alot of fun.

Good books. I like the Matthew Scudder character; he carries on through all kinds of personal baggage

Is it a requirement to do this?
Thanks

Hi from the moderators!
There is no hard and fast rule about including a link, cover, author name, or title in your post.
However, it is a big help to your fellow members to have some way to access more information about the book you are referring to.
There are so many different devices and a world of different users in our group that is is impossible to say it has to be just one way. Simply try the best you can with the device you are using.

All those Harris books are fantastic, love 'em!

Hi Donna
sorry if this makes me sound really dumb- but could you tell me how to create a link to the books I'm mentioning.

Hi Diana, When you are in the comment box you'll see the words "add book/author" above the box on the right. Click on that and a little box opens. You can search for your book by title or search for an author. When you find the book you can add the title as a link or click the option to add a cover.
I do have to say that I have been having problems with this function today. I don't know if it is my system or if it is Goodreads but normally it works great.

Thank you- I see it now - duh!

We all have those 'duh' moments, Diana.. ;0)

It's a psychological thriller with one of the most diabolical villains I have read about in years. Though it's fiction, there are a ton of parallels to what's on the news every day about kidnappers, serial killers, and sadists. It was a great read.

I had a terrible time getting into it at first but now I'm starting to warm up to it.

That was an excellent one. It's been a most enjoyable series.

Yes it has!

Shattered by Karen Robards
2nd Chance by James Patterson
What Doesn't Kill You by Iris Johansen
Silenced by Allison Brennan

Hi Alex - have you tried using the GR list for John Sandford's books and browsing them until the topics stop sounding familiar? I love that GR can pull out all the books and number them so that I know which ones I've missed.....
Don't forget to read the Virgil Flowers series, too!

I love Matthew Scudder. I rate him right up there with Harry Bosch.

I didn't know GR did that. I always use http://www.stopyourekillingme.com/.

I appreciate the fact that they give us the order books were written in.

Virgil Flowers is the Man.

Thanks, I just tried the pictures and it was a DUH for me too Diana!!
Now to see if it worked!!
