I've seriously tripped over the start - too many clues that something is going on that neither character is telling us about (I hate that witholding thing) and not enough actual action... but I'm sticking with it!

Diane, finished the book yesterday and enjoyed it quite a bit. I think it is better than the second in the series.

I'm now following up with a short story written for the same series, Pernelle's Escape, wherein we finally get to meet Charles's old love.

I've just started reading the Scandanavian authors and I too am enjoying them very much. So far I have read:
Jar Cityby Arnaldur Indridason
Don't Look Backby Karin Fossum

message 8214: by Dottie (new)

Dottie Hall | 56 comments June I also enjoyed Zoo, what a good and different book that was!

I just did the entire Tess Gerritsen Rizzoli and Isles series from beginning to end straight thru. I read most of them when they first came out, but had not read the last 2. I have read so many in between that I lost track, and since I had recently come across the 8 pack of books 1-8 I figured why not, so I read them all thru at once. I do enjoy reading a series like that, I tend to get into these ruts sometimes, and just continue with one author or genre until I've exhausted the lot. Now I'm reading Iris Johansen's newest Sleep No More by Iris Johansen which is starting out really good (of course!). Don't know what will be next, I have so many in my to read list. I really should read the ones that are in the group read but I don't have one and I read the other years ago. We shall see. On that note, back to more reading.

great books. Now I will look for the 3rd in the
series. Love the relationship between Sherlock and
Mary. She's as feisty and as observant as he is and it makes for fun reading.

message 8236: by JB (new)

JB Rowley (jbrowley) I have just finished listening to Sister
It is well written story with suspense skillfully structured so that my attention was held throughout.

I found the exploration of the sisterly bond absorbing although However, I did tire of the sister to sister communication toward the end. I also sometimes find the retrospective scenes confusing but I wonder if that is in part because of the audio format. A print copy probably makes it easier to clarify doubts by flipping back a page or two.

Juanita McMahon's narration was faultless.

I find Cara Black's mysteries a little thin, and the character of Aimee Le Duc persistant more than strong; however, love Cara Black's treatment of Paris. Her descriptions are like a moving camera focusing on the buildings, streets, architecture, history, food, and people of Paris. She also introduces into her books, situations that have plagued Paris. This is her forte!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have Read Murder in Montmartre (Aimee Leduc Investigations, #6) by Cara Black Murder in the Sentier (Aimee Leduc Investigations, #3) by Cara Black

I just read about Peter the Great over the summer for a history class. The book mentioned little about his wife, even after he gave her the power. I am excited you mentioned this book because I wondered why so little was talked about her. I had gone to Russia this past summer after reading the book. It was amazing to see all of Peter's work in St. Petersburg.
