Leah (leahkarge) I'm saying you were understating. I mean, it's Rossy. Is there such a thing called hyperbole when it comes to her awesomeness? I think not.

ROFLMAO!!! *wipes tears from eyes* Oh my tummy!

You know until now i thought that pleasure and pleasing always went together. Hmmm, i wonder why....^.^

Yeah, no. LOL
I think you must be thinking of somebody else. If i were sent to the middle east i wouldn't be discussing politics, but food tasting. So i would be the lady in the corner of a small restaurant sampling their menu!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Two minutes of laughter is better than 50 sit-ups. You work those abs girl!

And according to my handy dandy dictionary (yes I keep a couple by my desk even in the time of the internet) there is a difference between pleasures and pleases.

Pleasure used as a transitive verb with one definition to provide sensual or sexual gratification.
Please used as a transitive verb has several definitions. The main one is 'to act to the satisfaction of'.

message 107: by Leah (new)

Leah (leahkarge) LOL. Love you, too, Rossy! Clearly.

Leah (leahkarge) Thank you for that clarification, Jim!

That is precisely why i was confused. Don't you need to act to the satisfaction of your partner in order for him/her to receive sensual or sexual gratification?LOL

The Mentor Method as recommended by Jim is based on the "read" shelf in everyones profile. The person who has read the most books at the end of the sign up for the challenge, will pick for the person with the least amount of books "read" thus far.

First, i made a list from highest to lowest members based on their "read" shelf. I then, paired everyone following the mentor method. Thus one person with a higher count on their "read" shelf will pick for someone with a lower count, and vice versa.

Carolyn F. I'm so on top of it this month. I've sent your choices Bianca. Hope you like one of them.

message 124: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Okay, Nicole. I went through your shelves and decided to pick two from your currently TBR shelf and two that you don't have on your shelf at all.

I noticed that you seem to lean towards Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance books, so I've limited to those two genres.

From your TBR shelf:

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book, with a spunky heroine with a strong survivor spirit, and a very subtle but fulffiling romance.

Dark Lover by JR Ward. I'm a BDB fan, so obviously, I'll nudge anyone who hasn't tried it. : )

Not on your shelves:

Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh. Don't let the cheesy cover turn you off. Welcome to the world populated by Psy and Changelings.

Morrigan's Cross by Nora Roberts. First book in her Circle trilogy, my fave. Six unique individuals out to save the world from the wicked vampire queen Lilith.

Hope one of these books will interest you.

message 125: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Sherrill - I took a look at your list and we have a few in common, although i'm just starting to dive into the PNR world.

From your TBR list, I would like to recommend to you
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and Devil's Pact by Samantha Cruise

Not on your list, but an author that I've liked is Larissa Ione and her Demonica series or Karen Marie Morning's Highlander series (I've shown the first one here, but i've heard that not everyone likes it and that the third one is better and you don't miss much by skipping the first two)
Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning

Hope you like what I chose, but if you want like something else, let me know!

Deanna

message 127: by Leah (new)

Leah (leahkarge) Pollyanna, I looked at your TBR shelf and picked out a couple books and I also picked a couple new ones you don't have on your shelves.

TBR:
1. Impossible by Nancy Werlin
2. Dark Lover by J.R. Ward
3. Covet by J.R. Ward
4. Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead

New:
1. North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley
2. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
3. Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon (I noticed that you read some Paranormal Romance, so I thought I'd suggest something new.)
4. The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

I hope you can find something you like out of this list :)

message 128: by Pollyanna (new)

Pollyanna (polly8) | 300 comments Thankyou Leah I'll probably read Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead. Could you add me as a friend please or make your profile public as I can't see your list :)

message 129: by Annie (new)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Sarah
I imagine your shelves are like mine - not actually that accurate as to what you've read! I keep thinking I'll update mine - but the day hasn't come yet!

My recommended-must-reads from your TBR shelf are:
1. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
2. The Book Thief
3. Alanna: The First Adventure

Some new books you might like to try out are:
1. Sorcery and Cecelia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot: Being the Correspondence of Two Young Ladies of Quality Regarding Various Magical Scandals in London and the Country - Regency romance-y with magic. First of a trilogy about two cousins.
2. A Georgette Heyer - queen of Regency romance. If you haven't read any of hers, my favourite is The Toll-Gate (actually, my favourite is A Civil Contract - but it's not a traditional romance, it's an arranged marriage).
3. Sabriel - first in a trilogy, teen fantasy, sort of! The good thing about this is, if you're doing the A-Z author challenge, Nix can work as the 'x' entry.

Hope something from here catches your eye.

1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
2. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
3. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

Out of your comfort zone:
4. Frenemies by Megan Crane
5. Dark Lover by J.R. Ward
6. Watermelon by Marian Keyes

1.To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
2. The Readerby Bernhard Schlink
3. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
4. The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger

1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Thanks, Ahrcadia! I have to wait for another member to give me their "read" number before i pair you up. But if i don't hear from anyone by 12am, i'll assign you to someone already in the pairing list.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Elke, you seem to be quite the Lori Foster fan. However, I'm surprised you have not read Causing Havoc. You've read SBC#5 but not SBC#1? That is a situation that should be remedied.

You also seem to enjoy reading many of the popular fiction books - Kite Runner, Water for Elephants, and My Sister's Keeper are examples. You also don't mind a bit of suspense and violence - the Alex Cross books tipped me to this one. Furthermore, when you read romance, contemporary seems to be the name of the game. That's a good thing in my book.

So for contemporary romance, I recommend:

Causing Havoc
Welcome to Temptation
Delicious
Cry No More has a bit of suspense with it
Nerd Gone Wild is pure fluff but fun

For a more non-romance read:
The Elegance of the Hedgehog
The Widower: A Novel

There are seven good choices. If you need different choices, let my know tonight if at all possible. Enjoy.

Ez (ezrah-rah) | 387 comments Sherry,

We kind of have similar tastes, so hopefully you'll like one of these...

1) "Heartless" - Mary Balogh (Historical - Georgian)
2) "Saving Grace" - Julie Garwood (Historical - Medieval Scotland)
3) "The Hourglass" - Barbara Metzger (Historical/Paranormal - Regency)
4) "Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega #1)" - Patricia Briggs (Contemporary/Paranormal)
5) "Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid #1)" - Richelle Mead (Contemporary/Paranormal)
6) And one from your TBR list: "The Duke and I (Bridgertons #1)" - Julia Quinn

Heartless (Georgian, #1) by Mary Balogh Saving Grace by Julie Garwood The Hourglass (Signet Eclipse) by Barbara Metzger Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead The Duke And I (Bridgertons, #1) by Julia Quinn

Emily Jaimie,
I looked through your shelves and picked a few out that I thought that you might dig.

Covet by J.R. Ward
Soulless by Gail Carriger
Black Ice by Anne Stuart
See Jane Die by Erica Spindler

I've read the last three and enjoyed them, but I felt the urge to recommend the first because it seems quite a few people like it and, judging by your reviews and ratings, you enjoy Ward's work.

If none of those trip your trigger, let me know, I'll go back to the drawing board and pick again. :^D

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Hi Debbie,
I think I'm as excited about this challenge as you are. In fact, I'm currently vacationing in Cancun but thoroughly enjoying reasearching picks for you. This is going to be interesting because although we've read few of the same books we seem to have similar tastes. As a result I have so many recommendations but I'll keep it to a minimum..

From your TBR I choose 2 that are firsts in two very good series:
1)Halfway to the Grave- One of my favorite PNR books
2) Kiss of Midnight - If you liked the Lord of the Underworld series I think you'll really enjoy this as well.

Three of my choice:
1) Outlander - This is a big one but it's one of my favorite books ever. It's a cross between true historical fiction, romance and a little PNR
2) A Hunger Like No Other - this is a first in a great PNR series by Kresley Cole. A bit different with great humor.
3) A Kingdom of Dreams - If you like historical romance it's a must to read Judith McNaught and/or Jude Deveraux. This one by McNaught is another favorite.

If you want more just let me know. I really hope you enjoy!

message 141: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 1512 comments NewMoonGirl,

After glancing through your shelves I came up with the following recommendations. I hope you like something from them.

From your TBR shelf:
1. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs - this is really more UF than paranormal romance but a great series.
2. Bitten by Kelley Armstrong - great beginning to the Women of the Otherworld series. The books about Elena and Clay are my favorite.
3. The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong - this is a YA series that I read because it was recommended to me in last month's pick it for me challenge. I enjoyed the book, but it has a big cliffhanger, so you might want to have the sequel ready if you choose it.

Other options:
1. Summon the Keeper by Tanya Huff - this is a fun, light read about a guardian trying to close a portal to Hell in the basement of a hotel. She has a talking cat, a sweet handyman and a nosy neighbor. And funniest of all, Hell will talk to itself.
2. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones - Sophie is the oldest child and thinks she will have a boring life because of this, then she gets turned into an old lady by a wicked witch and ends up staying with the Wizard Howl to try and get cured.
3. Heart Mate by Robin D. Owens - this takes place on another world where most people have a talent (magic). The stronger the talent the higher their ranking and T'Ash wants to reclaim his family's place in society.

Jennefer (jenneferpracticex3) | 247 comments Hi Ari,

Ok I probably went way overboard here but you have so many interesting books on your shelves and so many different directions I could go with my recs that I just can't help myself! So here we go....

I noticed you have lots of kid’s books on your shelves but there are a few that are missing IMO.Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne is my absolute favorite book memory as a kid! I just adore these stories so I have to consider it a must read.
You might also enjoy The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff it is and adult book about the "wisdom" from the Winnie the Pooh stories. You might even enjoy it without reading Pooh.
You have the boxcar kid’s books on your shelves and I loved those! Around the same time I was reading The Baby-Sitters Club (starts with Kristy's Great Idea) and the Goosebumps books (starts with Welcome to Dead House) and loved both of those series.

That's out of my system now on to adult suff...
You have several memoirs on your shelves so you might enjoy The Rabbi's Daughter by Reva Mann. I read this recently and it is a great memoir IMO! I couldn't put it down. It is an interesting look at orthodox Jewish life in Israel but it is also just a good very real human story. Highly recommend it.

I noticed you have several vegan cookbooks and I don't know if you could really read this for this challenge but you might want to check out Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker: 200 Recipes for Healthy and Hearty One-Pot Meals That Are Ready When You Are. I love my Crockpot and use this cookbook often (most of the recipes are vegan as well or can be easily modified).
In the way of food books I also highly recommend The Ethics of What We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matter. This is the most complete and unbiased book I have ever read on the topic of food ethics and I cannot recommend it enough to everyone! I could go on about this but I will try to avoid a possible soapbox situation :)

Some rec's based on some authors I see on your shelves that you seem to enjoy:
I have not read this but I have heard good thing about The Host by Stephanie Meyer and it looks like you enjoyed Twilight so you might want to check this out.
I see you read and enjoyed the Lost Symbol by Dan Brown so you just have to read Angels & Demons. I have read all of Dan Browns books and this was by far my favorite!
I notice you read Of Mice and Men so I am going to recommend East of Eden by John Steinbeck. It has been a long time since I read it but I remember it really moved me much like Of Mice and Men.

This is a romance group so some of my recent favorites...
Contemporary: He Loves Lucy by Susan Donovan
PNR: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
Historical: My Lady Notorious by Jo Beverley
Sweet and short: Kilmeny of the Orchard by L.M. Montgomery

Some others I just have a feeling you would love:

Faking It by Elisa Lorello
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
Night's Master by Tanith Lee (or anything by this author, I just have a feeling you might like her)

I warned you, I went crazy! :) If something here does not catch your eye feel free to let me know and I will ignore your requests and assume you are kidding because this list has just about everything I think! LOL Ok, I won't ignore you if something here really does not interest you let me know what you are in the mood for and I will try again.

Happy Reading!

message 150: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 4413 comments Hi! Kingzkid,
Welcome to this challenge. I noticed that you just joined Goodreads this month, and I've got a feeling you've read much more than currently shows up on your book lists. So I may be suggesting books you've already read. Hopefully, I'll get one or two in that are new to you.

Most of your books appear to be contemporary, so I'll start with some contemporary romance books I don't see on your shelves:

Robyn Carr has a delightful series based in a small mountain town called Virgin River, and the first book is appropriately called Virgin River. If you like it, you'll have several more to enjoy (the current one is #10), but the first one stands on its own.

Jennifer Crusie also writes enjoyable stories - I recommend Anyone But You

And I have to include Linda Howard's Mackenzie's Mountain - I totally love the story of Wolf and Mary

I saw two Maeve Binchy books in your TBR, so for that flavor of Ireland with a touch of magic thrown in, I am recommending Nora Roberts and her Gallagher trilogy - the first one is Jewels of the Sun, but my favorite is Shawn's story, Tears of the Moon; the 3rd one is Heart of the Sea

I noticed that one of the books you're currently reading is a horror/thriller unknown to me, but in that genre I recommend the futuristic The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

And I just have to include something from one of my favorite genres, historical romance, by recommending Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series. The first book is The Duke And I, but again my favorite of the series is the 2nd book The Viscount Who Loved Me

If I've been unlucky enough to only recommend books you've already read, let me know and I'll try again!
