Turns out, Mockingjay was the only book the 1-star reviewer ever reviewed. Collins hurt her bad.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Just wanted to re-iterate that I'm one of those who loved Mockingjay.

Seriously 1 star? Someone was definitely disappointed by a certain boy in the books...

I call a broken heart.

message 753: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Okay... I just finished Mockingjay and I'm still wiping tear tracks off my face. I thought it was excellent.

I'm heartbroken about all the deaths, it was so very tragic. That was an excellent book.

(Oh lord do I love Peeta!)

Rach (pagesofpiper) (piperbunny) One of the best series ever!
I loved how everything was summed up and how it all played out. I think it's different from the other two but it had to be. But I don't understand the one star review either!?

*hands out tissues*

On Bravo's Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen's Mazel of the week went to Suzanne Collins for The Hunger Games. He read the whole thing on a flight the night before the show. I was so excited that she got a shout out!

message 756: by Kurukka (new)

Kurukka What I loved in Mockingjay about the rush writing is that Collins raises a lot of difficult questions without bringing easy answers because this is our job to do it. I don't really like it when an author tries to justify everything he writes IN the book. There are some things we should try to solve out on our own. There are so many things you can interprete in words. Just try to use your brain to figure it out, make a theory. That's exactly what I'm expecting from a book with such a subject as The Hunger Games. I don't want answers, I want questions. This book is frustrating because it makes you think on your own. I guess it's a "take it or leave it" kind of book, you won't get anything else than that.

message 757: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I agree Cecilia. I hate endings all tied up with a little bow.

message 758: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Heidi I just said that same thing yesterday (about that one vamp series that we both didn't like (The-book-that-must-not-be-named)).

Heidi Wendy wrote: "Heidi I just said that same thing yesterday (about that one vamp series that we both didn't like (The-book-that-must-not-be-named))."

That may be what I was thinking of!

Kurukka "I thought the HP ending was epic! p.s. if that person who gave Mockingjay one star gave Breaking Dawn 5 stars they need to be shot."

Oh, I hadn't seen that. Yeah, I agree. Just like in the "The Assassin" part of Mockingjay. Bim.

message 761: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 10 comments I agree with Cecilia about neat endings. Maybe I feel this way even more with YA, because it seems so dishonest to promise that life is somehow neat and tidy; life is amazing and incredible and inspiring--just as these books are--but it doesn't always work out just perfectly. When I finished Mockingjay, I immediately wanted to write about it in my blog, and one of the things I wrote was that great books tell the truth, even if the truth isn't beautiful. I haven't read a series that combines such great plot with insight in a long time. It's great to see other fans here!

message 762: by Kurukka (new)

Kurukka Yep, that's how I feel too about YA. When I finished reading Mockingjay, I was so depressed for a whole week, I couldn't even reopen the book to read one or two lines. Felt like this had happenned in real life.

The ending was touching because it was simple and real, I think. No great cliché ending celebrating a victory like "everybody danced and sung, holding hands till the morning" you know (star wars picture in hands, lol). It was just true and pretty.

message 763: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I appreciated Mockingjay a lot more upon some reflection and think it was an honest ending to the serious and depressing world Katniss lived in. Cecelia I agree the HP ending was epic and wonderful :)

message 764: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments What part of the ending? Like the Epilogue? If so, I totally agree.

message 765: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Anyone ever thought of Chord Overstreet as a possiblity for Peeta?

message 766: by Heidi (new)

Heidi If he is the guy from Glee, then YES. I think I mentioned him and heard crickets afterwards. Glad to know someone else who agrees. I still think the son from Weeds (Hunter Parrish) would be a great Peeta, unless they don't film for years as he is getting older now.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Kid has a Peeta-ish look but who the heck is he?

message 768: by Heidi (new)

Heidi He is the new guy on Glee - he looks older than that on Glee (and he can sing!)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I don't watch Glee so that explains why I don't know.

Question is how good of an actor is he for a serious drama?

message 770: by Heidi (new)

Heidi It is too soon to tell, as he just joined Glee. I like Hunter Parrish for Peeta, but as I do not watch Weeds I am not sure about his acting chops.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I don't even like the idea of a Hunger Games movie. Excuse me why I hide my head in the sand. I don't watch Weeds either lol....Since Lost ended my TV consumption has decreased to whatever's on. Who from Lost can we get in Hunger Games?

(for the record I normally like book movies)

Kurukka Heidi I wrote: "I appreciated Mockingjay a lot more upon some reflection and think it was an honest ending to the serious and depressing world Katniss lived in. Cecelia I agree the HP ending was epic and wonderfu..."

Actually I was talking about the Mockingjay ending, lol XD The little two-pages epilogue.
The HP epilogue was too much for me. I admit, I enjoyed the cheesy and the rainbow feelings but I'm not a fan of the "10 years or something later" ending. Also, I can't get over the "Albus Severus" thing, lol. In my head, I interpret something like Albus/Severus.

I really really read too much fanfictions. Good thing I went on rehab!

message 773: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Yeah, he's the guy from Glee and he just hit me as a possiblity. So far on Glee he's been believable but we'll have to see how it goes on. (He's totally hot though! And funny!)

I've never seen Weeds either.

Team Gale - just in case you wanted to know!

Has there been any one that hasn't liked at least the first book?"

I didn't … Well, the first was all right but I wasn't in love with it. And from there I thought they went downhill. :/

message 775: by [deleted user] (new)

How do I post a pic on here? I found a pic of Jodelle Ferland dressed up as Katniss for Halloween! She is the one who I have said should play Katniss. I posted it on my profile but want to post it here for all to see. :)

message 776: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) you have to upload it somewhere it'll give you a URL, and then there is a code in the link above titled (some html is okay). You have to replace the pictures URL with the URL in the code... but it may be easier to just copy paste the link right to your profile, lol.

message 777: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) oh, that won't work... you're private...

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I went to look but you're too secretive for us!

message 779: by [deleted user] (new)

Upload it to where? That's what I'm not sure of.

message 780: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments You could upload it to the pictures section of the group.

message 781: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh! Good idea, Becca!

message 782: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Good idea Becca.

message 783: by [deleted user] (new)

Done! Go check it out!

message 784: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I could totally accept her as Katniss. Good pick.

message 785: by [deleted user] (new)

Woohoo! Thank you, Wendy!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments wait... isn't she the Twilight girl? I mean I wouldn't hold that for or against her or anything other than I just think the 2 series should be separate. But it could be one of those RPatz transitions.

RPatz goes from Cedric to Edward
This girl goes from Bree to Katniss.

She definitely looks the part, just give her some gray contacts and a bow and I could handle it.

message 787: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, she is Bree from Eclipse. Her part in Eclipse is about as big as Rob's part in Goblet of Fire. I thought she had potential to be Katniss the minute I saw the trailer for Case 39 (not Eclipse, believe it or not). :)

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Ha... I actually think Rob's part was bigger than Bree's. Did this girl even have lines?

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments She does look the part. Of course I havent seen her act yet...

message 790: by Smiliepeople (new)

Smiliepeople | 7 comments I read the first two books in this series but I couldn't really enjoy them because they felt too much like Battle Royale for YA's to me. And I'm not critiquing the fact that the author toned it down for youngsters, just that she seems to have blatantly ripped off the plot of another book without even acknowledging it. I got the third book as a gift but I'm wondering if it's worth reading and if the plot takes any interesting turns that will stop my mind from immediately dismissing the story as annoying because it's too much like something else.

(I will admit, however, that Peeta is so ridiculously sweet. Its adorable ^.^)

Brittany wrote: "Ha... I actually think Rob's part was bigger than Bree's. Did this girl even have lines?"

I think she just screams and looks scared. Haha!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I'll be honest, I'm not 100% certain it's possible to make to great movie from this story regardless of the cast. We know they want a PG-13 rating so I think they will tone down the violence and reality of the situation.

And as much as I love this trilogy most of what we know is told to us through Katniss, not shown to us through scenes. From a cinimatic perspective one can only have so many flashbacks.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope they pull it off and that it's done well, but I wonder. And it will be GREAT to see my beloved Cinna come to life!

message 793: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I can't see this as a movie either - people won't like to see kids killing other kids.

message 794: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Which is exactly why it will become so popular if they ever get if off the ground Heidi. The things people don't like to see are generally what draw the most crowds ironically. I think it's a natural fascination with the things we abhore. Kind of a love hate relationship.

message 795: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm more curious about who they choose to play the characters than the actual movie. I think it's a pretty grisly premise that would be hard to watch on-screen.

message 796: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I agree Shannon. That's pretty much where I'm at too, though I'm sure I'd go see it.

message 797: by [deleted user] (new)

Wendy wrote: "I agree Shannon. That's pretty much where I'm at too, though I'm sure I'd go see it."

I'd absolutely go see it.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I don't personally think Hunger Games will work as a movie (and I've said this a bunch before) because by nature movies are 3rd-person whereas the reason the violence in Hunger Games isn't gratuitous is that we have Katniss interpreting it. I don't know how you can capture that 1st person perspective that makes the violence work in the novel.

However I love the series so much that I will go to see it. Give it a chance at least.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Cassi I agree with you 100%. While I'm hopeful for good things, I'm not expecting much. AND I also will be there to see it.

I hope you're right about it being popular, but I just don't see it as a movie. Perhaps once they actually start on it and I see the stills, it will seem more real.
