What book are you reading Nat?

City of Ember.
I loved city of Ember in fourth grade too :) I'm jealous that you get to read it for school!I'm reading Jane Eyre right now.
Kate wrote: "That was good, but yes, it is more suitable for 4th grade than for 8th grade pre-AP English."I think Ember would be perfect for 6th grade ELA. But yeah, 8th grade is a little too old (at least, to read as an assigned for-a-grade book). When I teach 8th English, the modern books I'm going to assign will be The Hunger Games (JUST the first book), maybe Leviathan, Megan Whalen Turner's The Thief, The Book Thief and MAYBE Divergent.
For 6th grade, the recommendations would be a lot easier: The Lightning Thief,The Book of Three (maybe the whole Chronicles of Prydain series, since they're short), The Looking Glass Wars, The Maze Runner, Redwall or anything by Brian Jacques, and maybe Heist Society
:P
Those are all absolutely great books, Amelia! Except maybe not Heist Society... That might be too girly to teach to a mixed class. But the rest of them? Wonderful!
yeah I wasn't sure about that one. It was a TX Bluebonnet this year, so that's the only reason I put it in the category with the others.

Those are some really great choices. I think Heist Society might be iffy, but if you made the boys read it some of them might like it. The other option is to have a selection of a few books with that as one of the choices.
The Book Thief should be closer to the end of the year. Fresh out of year 7 is probably too younger to totally admire Zusak's magnificent prose. Just my opinion.
I think I read The Book Thief in Grade Nine. I think Grade Eight would be just alright, but definitely towards the end of the year.
Amelia, the pragmatic idealist wrote: "Lol, I wasn't making an academic calendar or anything, but yeah, you're right."Be careful or we'll start planning your whole year for you. Lesson plan and everything. ;)
Currently reading: 'Anna Karenina' by Leo Tolstoy and 'Emma' by Jane Austen. Nearly finished the first, so really happy!!! (Not as great as I imagined.)
'Emma' is really good. I do like a bit of romance. XD
Next on the list: 'Before I go to sleep' by S. J. Watson
I do like a thriller now and again. :)
I'm still reading Heist Society. I absolutely love it so far, but I just have NO time to read this semester :(

Not as great as you---BAH! Karenina is the best thing ever! No, anything Tolstoy is the best thing ever!
I am trying to read The Help by Kaythrn Sockett but haven't gotten very far because of school andstuff.
Those are good books Amelia. I have yet to read the Book Thief, though I really want to. And my English teacher (Yearbook last year, so we have a pretty good connection) recommended it to me. It's actually pretty funny, we always do that. And "What book are you reading right now? is it good?" I love it. :)I finshed Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I really, really liked it. Not to keen on the ending, but very good overall.
I loved COE in fourth grade. I just can't get over the fact that I'm actually reading it in the class I'm in. I also read Flowers for Algernon in these past few weeks... Not the whole thing, just the short story version. And we have to do these things called SIFT Notes on the things we read, and I hate them. OH! And in the first few days of school, we read The Tale of Three Brothers to do practice notes, it was totally awesome :)
Oh, and now I am reading The Thief Lord.
Good to know about the DAUGHTER ending. I've been told that this is the first in a series, so hopefully we'll find stuff out sooner!
I'm reading Purgatorio (yes as in Dante's Divine Comedy), Little Women (surprisingly enough it's REALLY good), and The Aeneid.

I love that book :)
I am half way through The Power of Six, sequel to I am Number Four. Sorry to disappoint anyone, but it sucks.

Yep. I just decided not to read this one. I KNEW there'd be a triangle in it. Everyone I know who's read it hasn't liked it.
Natalie - I started DAUGHTER, but I stopped to read The Near Witch and Heist Society. I had set aside a couple hours tonight to read it, but...I watched my DVD of The Lion King (and cried) instead... I'll get around to it!
Tayyab/Killer of Mockingbirds wrote: "I'm reading Lord of the Flies. Finished Chapter 3, gonna start the next chapter."That's a good book
I'm reading an American Girl book (Samantha Learns A Lesson) and an autobiography by Joni Eareckson Tada. Also am in the middle of a collection of classic horror short stories for children. Am also thinking maybe I should check out the 39 Clues series, my foster son is really into it.
Dang, I remember when I fell in love with those books :)) We gave them away sadly. I want to read the 39 Clues series so bad!
oooh, was "The Help" good/enjoyable to read? I've seen the book every time I walk into Barnes & Nobles, but I've never had the urge to start reading it... ;)

Oh, i loved it. A couple parts were really weird but overall it was really good.

True it is. I gotta find the rest of the books by the author that did them.
