Amelia, thats the exact same with me. I cant last more then 40 pages without getting up to do something else.
Except, of course, for Angels & Demons by Dan Brown.
I devoured hundreds of pages a night.
I even read it whilst walking home from school. I didnt even look up once (Except to cross the road. But still...)

Kate, you're finished with I AM #4 already?
wow, that was fast! It took me two days to read that. Its so addicting!
I'll see if I can get some discussions up now :)

message 1052: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I'm warning you I probably won't actively discuss until after my tests on Tuesday, but after that, discussions here I come.

Yay :)
Its okay, official reading dates are February 1-to February 28.
I'll make more discussions a bit later on.

Story of my life. <3

Z. (mizzfictionista) @Cinnamon The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was a great read. It starts out slow, but once you get into it, the pages go by so quickly. I think that type of book is an acquired taste though, because there is plenty of gruesome detail and mature, explicit content.

I appreciated the content of the book, but really, really did not like it for a few reasons and felt that ...Kicked the Hornet's Nest was extremely weak. LOVED ...Played with Fire, though. Best of the trilogy.

message 1058: by Pandy (new)

Pandy | 185 comments Hornet's Nest isn't my favorite either, though I did enjoy it. It's so much slower than the other two.

message 1059: by Diana (new)

Diana I'm almost finished with The Chimera's Curse by Julia Golding.

message 1060: by cindy (new)

cindy (cinlin) An acquired taste, huh...? That's an interesting way to describe a book! Thanks Zareen, saintsalike, and Pandy for all the helpful feedback on the Millenium trilogy:).

message 1061: by Z. (last edited Feb 02, 2011 04:50PM) (new)

Z. (mizzfictionista) lol I guess it does sound kind of strange...I just didn't know how else to put it. I feel like the writing style is either a love or hate through the beginning of book one, and not everyone appreciates that type of content until they realize how eye-opening it can be.

message 1062: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments I need help! I'm trying to decide between reading Beastly, Jellicoe Road, and Gone first... Any suggestions?

message 1063: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Sorry, I'd love to help, but I haven't read any of them.

message 1064: by Frank (new)

Frank I haven't read any, but Beastly sounds the best. Gone sounds like a serious version of the old Jimmy Neutron movie. :D

message 1065: by cindy (last edited Feb 02, 2011 05:21PM) (new)

cindy (cinlin) @Zareen: OK, I'll definitely try the series. I actually borrowed the first book, read a chapter, and returned it before...

@Taylor: Jellicoe Road was really good, kind of a realistic coming-of-age story. Melina Marchetta writes beautifully. Gone is apocalyptic, and I think the series starts out interesting but gets slightly worse with each new book, but that's just me.

message 1067: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) I've actually been re-reading On the Jellicoe Road for the last two days. If you've got snow days off from school, you might as well read something you actually like!
:D

message 1068: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I went with Harry Potter. I read the first one and a half books on Tuesday before realizing that there was still a chance of a midterm on Wednesday, so I should study. (There wasn't a midterm. I should have read)

I'm starting that one as soon as I finish Gone, which I just started today.

message 1071: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Okay, I just finished JELLICOE, and once again...I feel like a little part of me has just fizzled out, since the story's over. Anybody ever just feel - I don't know - glum when a story ends?

Will start Vampire Crush tonight

message 1072: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I know how you feel Amelia. Not with Jellicoe, since I have yet to read it, but with other books, totally.

message 1073: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I finshed The Chamber of Secrets, now I'm waiting for Azkaban. What are HP fans called? Muggles?

message 1074: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments You know... We don't really have a nickname. We are collectively known as the Harry Potter Fandom.

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 1115 comments My dad calls me, my mom, and my sis the HP obssessers.

message 1076: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Oh, I get HP Addict all the time... Or Potter Geek.

message 1077: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments Hmm. I asked ChaCha and they said Muggles.

message 1078: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments I've never referred to myself as a Muggle... ;)

Harry Potter fans dont have a name, like Gleeks or Twi-hards :O
Oh well, there are too many of us for a nickname.
But seriously, why has nobody thought of a one?
We could try Potheads, but that may be misleading... XD

message 1083: by natalie (new)

message 1084: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I vote to make a Glee discussion board.

message 1085: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments "Calling all Gleeks", "New Directions", "Singing to Glee"... I'm a major Gleek, sorry >:)

I made a discussion board under 'entertainment' :)
I am a Pothead way more then I am a Gleek. Harry Potter is my life.

Im currently reading Peeps by Scott Westerfeld
I love the Australian cover: Peeps by Scott Westerfeld

message 1087: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments Okay, thank you. Glee is my life. Or is it just reading? I don't know. Harry Potter is #3 on my list, even though I've just read 2 of them (;

That is a cool cover!

message 1088: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Glad to hear it Natalie! Aren't you glad your friends made you read it then? They just keep getting better, too.

Whatever you call them, Potheads or anything else, I am one too. What are the first two on your list?

message 1089: by [deleted user] (new)

I've never heard the term "Potheads" used for Harry Potter fans; just people who smoke marijuana on a regular basis, lol. (Must be a regional thing.) Where I'm at now, we're called by whatever house with which we associate or by Team Voldemort or Team Harry.

I wish I could say that I'm a fan of Glee, but nope. :|

message 1090: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments @Kate: Yes, I am. Gleek, then Twi-hard. Pothead is third on my list because I'm not done with the seires so I have to put Twilight ahead of it.

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 1115 comments I'm a hater of Twilight and have never seen Glee but I'm a Pothead all the way.

message 1092: by [deleted user] (new)

Omg Twilight ugh. I live in WA and everyone asks me about Forks and vampires. :/

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 1115 comments Forks?

message 1094: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments Forks WA. That is the city Bella lives in. Duh!
:D

message 1095: by [deleted user] (new)

And it's also a real small-town city in Washington state, which is why people ask me about it all the time.

Well sorry. I've never read Twilight. I just hate vampires and wierd love triangles that make no sense.

message 1097: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
I read Twilight. It was okay, I guess.
Way over rated.

message 1098: by [deleted user] (new)

I read them so that I could informedly make fun of them. And because since I live in the area... I thought I should know what people would be referencing when they talked to me.

I was so disappointed with the novella about Bree. There was nothing in it that actually screamed it taking place in Seattle. From the descriptions, it could have taken place anywhere. There were also a few other errors, but it's a Stephanie Meyer work so I didn't expect anything from it.

I've heard it used as a joke (mainly by non-Potheads) for Harry Potter fans. That's the problem, is that, at least where I am, there is no name except Harry Potter fans/obsessees.

message 1100: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Lol, we actually stayed in a hotel in Forks, way before the whole TWILIGHT stuff exploded. It's weird how some random place all of the sudden becomes famous.
There was this one restaurant in Forks, though, that had really good potato soup. I mean REALLY good.
