Amanda (kittiescardigansbooks) | 207 comments Just finished Undertow (Cutter Cay Trilogy, #1) by Cherry Adair and really liked it! I do wish that Adair had avoided the terrorist plotline - it didn't make much sense in terms of the story. There were many other ways that she could have added some action to the story without going there. But otherwise, I would definitely recommend it!

I'm bored with the terrorist bad-guys. How about drug cartels and other slimy criminals? I think that terrorism is on everyone's mind, but we need escapism, so why not pick on another badguy culprit to keep things interesting?

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I have to agree with you both. If we take what authors are giving us, we'd have to admit that there are more terrorists in the world than there are good guys.

message 2204: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (kittiescardigansbooks) | 207 comments Exactly! There are so many different classes of bad guys that can be explored. Adair had the whole world of thieves trying to steal from the main heroes claimed shipwreck to explore - but she had to throw in the terrorists. Once that storyline started, I was a little taken aback and taken out of the story. Murderous thieves = perfect for the story. Terrorists = WTF moment.

message 2205: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish (last edited Jan 13, 2011 10:32AM) (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish In Pamela Clare's books she's had human trafficking (Hard Evidence), environmental pollution (Extreme Exposure), molestation/rape of female inmates (Unlawful Contact), desecration of sacred Indian lands (Naked Edge) and in Breaking Point it's going to be drug smuggling. Every one of those stories was awesome and wasn't centered on some bad guy being what we've come to know as terrorists.

Very good point, D!

Amanda, that does sound like she ruined a perfect opportunity.

message 2207: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (kittiescardigansbooks) | 207 comments I think that is one of the reasons why I like Pamela Clare's books so much. They are different than most other romantic suspense out there (plus I think they are really well written). Her books aren't about saving the country or the world, they are about serious and realistic issues that reporters could possibly face.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Realistic is exactly it! And I appreciate that, so much. A GOOD author can take ANY situation and make it a GREAT read.

This is so true, and also one of the reasons why I hate a love triangle....well, you know, other than the fact that they just suck.

message 2210: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (kittiescardigansbooks) | 207 comments I'm also really not a fan of the old love triangle. They are just so unnecessary!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I don't like stories where someone has to make a decision, a choice, because someone's going to end up hurt, and also, I'm not convinced of the HEA of the ones who end up together.

I hate love triangles...with a burning passion! I will put a book back on the shelf if I know it's a love triangle. That's why it took me years to read Sugar Daddy!

Amanda (kittiescardigansbooks) | 207 comments Both of the books I read today, Undertow (Cutter Cay Trilogy, #1) by Cherry Adair and Eternal Flame (Night Watch, #3) by Cynthia Eden , had heroes named Zane. I didn't even notice until I was posting if for my DHASG challenge! Gotta love heroes named Zane...yummy.

Zane is a good name. I've never met anyone in real life with it. Funny, huh?

message 2216: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) Why oh why??? couldn't I resist reading the Shadowfever spoiler? Someone explain to me why I spent all day yesterday avoiding all contact with my computer (and phone for that matter) so I wouldn't read it only to wake up this morning to pull it up on my phone and read it! It's like I was possessed!

I'm re-reading the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. <3 me some Adam Hauptmann. =D

I'm reading Eternal Hunter and hoping that Cynthia Eden will do a book about Ben Greer. Even though his part isn't that big in this book I find him to be very intriguing

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I was a little confused at the start of that one, Courtney, but it was surprisingly good.

Susie, you have a tough choice, I have read all but the Kleypas ones, the rest are good. I would put them in a pile, close your eyes, mess them up, then pick one, you can't go wrong.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I'm reading Tessa's Pride by Olivia Brynn by Olivia Brynn. It's a Carina Press book that I'm reading for netgalley. It's really good. Then later today I'll start Master of Surrender (Blood Sword Legacy, #1) by Karin Tabke

message 2234: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

Yeah, kinda weird. They don't really explain anything until the end. Throughout most of the story I felt like I had missed reading some prequel or something. It all came together in the end though so YAY! :D

Courtney, I haven't read her new series yet. I have been collecting them. I hope you like it.

Jennifer, I loved The Iron Duke.

message 2239: by La La (new)

La La | 132 comments I'm currently reading Mistress by Mistake (Courtesan Court Trilogy, #1) by Maggie Robinson . It started out so good but now, halfway through the book, the heroine spinelessness and selfishness is starting to irk me. Maybe it will get better again towards the end. *sigh*. I need another historical romance novel like Passion by Lisa Valdez or Her Ladyship's Companion by Evangeline Collins .

Dija Ruth wrote: "Lazuline wrote: "Currently reading A Rush of Wings (The Maker's Song, #1) by Adrian Phoenix"lazline that is an excellent book. u will love it."

But it's a bit too much like other series, don't you think? I dunno, maybe I'm just not in the mood for it or something, so I put it on-hold and am reading Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs instead.

message 2241: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (kittiescardigansbooks) | 207 comments Finished Hunt Her Down (Bullet Catcher, #9) by Roxanne St. Claire and Warrior (The Blades of the Rose, #1) by Zoe Archer (and I seriously regret not also pick up Scoundrel (The Blades of the Rose, #2) by Zoe Archer , Rebel (The Blades of the Rose, #3) by Zoe Archer , and Stranger (The Blades of the Rose, #4) by Zoe Archer at the library too - they were all there!) I really liked both books - 4 stars each. I'd maybe give Warrior 5 stars, but I reserve those for books that I will reread over and over.

Now on to Cold As Ice (Ice, #2) by Anne Stuart , A Hellion in Her Bed (Hellions of Halstead Hall, #2) by Sabrina Jeffries , and In Too Deep (Looking Glass Trilogy, #1; Arcane Society, #10) by Jayne Ann Krentz !

message 2242: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 164 comments Switching it up. The Charmer (Liar's Club, #4) by Celeste Bradley arrived at the library and I really want to get through The Liar's Club series so I'm gonna start that tonight instead. :)

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments Lady Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "Mollie, I love the Tallchief series. In fact, I love most of Cait London's Silhouette books!"

You are so right! I don't like her longer books nearly as much. I ended up skipping that title as I'd re-read it last year, and went right through to

Tallchief The Homecoming (The Tallchiefs) (Silhouette Desire, 1310) by Cait London which was great.

I then read Game for Seduction (Bad Boys of Football, #2) by Bella Andre which was only OK.

I'm about to re-read another of my series romance favorite authors, Justine Davis. This trilogy from the early nineties includes two heroes who have lost a leg or two. I love when Cassie tells Dar that "your problem has nothing to do with your body. It's your head that's all screwed up. Your attitude....you would have done the same thing if you were whole. You still would have messed this up."
Stevie's Chase (Silhouette Intimate Moments, No. 402) by Justine Davis Left At The Altar (Romantic Traditions) (Silhouette Intimate Moments No 596) by Justine Davis Morning Side Of Dawn (Silhouette Intimate Moments, No 674) by Justine Davis

message 2244: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) Just finished The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook . I couldn't get into it until my son went to bed....then I couldn't put it down (which is why I'm still up)!
I picked up Unearthly (Unearthly, #1) by Cynthia Hand ...though I don't think it will have one of my guys in it. Maybe..but I doubt it. I guess I'll find out. I'm still praying that my Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning shows up tomorrow instead of Tuesday...that would make my day. I already explained the situation to my hubs...he's off work which means he gets to experience one of my normal days with our 2 year old while I will be locking myself in a closet or bathroom or running away until I'm done with it. :) He thinks I'm nuts. He's probably right!

Megan, that Darkness Chosen series is not highly rated, but I really enjoyed it.

Mollie, I like her Silhouette books better too, because she focuses on the romance. Sometimes a suspense plot can really drag down a romance.

Jennifer, I'm glad you liked The Iron Duke.
