Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments I liked how the letters from Cassie were a lifeline for Dash, giving him a reason to recover. I did not find Dash as mouthwatering as Callan, but I did like the plot of his story better than Callan's. I just found Del Ray to be clueless, which made him more realistic to me, so many guys are that way.

Doesn't it feel like we're chatting about neighbors? Good fiction fosters that, and I like it.

I read and loved all but the third so enjoy:-)

I read Midsummer Magic (Magic Trilogy, #1) by Catherine Coulter last night: it was one of those books my grandmother had bought, and since we're just getting all of her things delivered, I thought I'd give Coulter a try (my first book by her..): I liked the second half of the book, but really didn't enjoy the first: I hated that Hawk didn't give a d*** about Frances' pleasure or wants.. So not sure I'd read anything else by Coulter... Unless any of you have any fab ones to recommend:-)

UM, Darca & Mollie... I've never read the Breed series (although I might have read one a couple years ago.. Megan's Mark?): would you rec them?

I too, can't wait for Cassie's story. It will be interesting to see who she ends up with.

I did love Elizabeth and Dash's story mostly due to the letters at the beginning, those were so heartbreaking.

@ Melanie ~ Megan's Mark is the first one that made mass market paperback. The others that are older are a little more hard to find. I really like the series, it is very different premise.

Melanie (melaina) | 411 comments Finished Slow Burn (Buchanan, #5) by Julie Garwood The Dark-Hunters Vol.1 (manga) by Sherrilyn Kenyon : love the first, liked the second: it was fun seeing a favorite book in manga version:-)

Up next Shadow Dance (Buchanan, #6) by Julie Garwood if all goes well:-)

I actually have all the Breeds on ebook format, so I'll probably try them again one of these days:-)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I guess one of these days I'll have to read Garwood's contemps. It's just that I've heard they're not very good.

Try them for yourself.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I know, I really need to, Arch. I love both genres, HR and RS so it might be that those who didn't care for them just don't like RS.

Some people don't like to read contemporary romances and some don't like to read historical romances. I rather contemporary over historical romances.

The people that read Julie's contemporary romances and didn't care for them, might be people who are lovers of her historicals books and don't really care for contemporary romances.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Oh, are they CR or RS? I thought they were more like Troubleshooters.

Yes, I like the Breed series, and Lora Leigh is one of my favorite authors. The books she published in that series before Megan's Mark were through Ellora's Cave and are erotic romances, Megan's Mark and the later ones are more acceptable to the mass market and are published through Berkley Sensation and Jove Paranormal. A good taste might be to try some from the public library, I recommend the novella in Hot For the Holidays.

I think you'll like Coulter's later work better than that earlier stuff, the market's taste in romance has changed and so did her writing. The Sherbrooke Bride and related stories are fantastic. She wrote a lot of historical romances, a few contemporary ones, and an excellent FBI mystery/thriller series.

@Arch: I, too, prefer contemporary stories to historicals, though I think I just burned out on reading too many mediocre ones of the latter. I'm now going through and collecting the historicals of Christina Dodd because I like her paranormal work so much...I read one of them and liked it.

I also collect and have read all of Amanda Quick and Julia Quinn, and have read all of Johanna Lindsey though I downsized the collection.

Back to topic today, I stopped at Barnes & Noble on the way home from work and picked up Nowhere to Run (Not Without Risk/A Man to Die for) by Suzanne Brockmann and The Gift of Love, an anthology by Lori Foster et al. which I'm currently reading.

I might let my next book or one of my next books be a Chick Lit.

Melanie (melaina) | 411 comments So I saw Noah fall in love: I totally enjoyed the book but I was hoping for something a little better... I loved him in all the other Buchanan books, and he was great in Shadow Dance (Buchanan, #6) by Julie Garwood , but not as great as I would have hoped: so loved the book, but not my fave Garwood contemp!

@Molly, thanks for the recs, I might try Coulter's later books:-) Have you tried C.Dodd's contemps? My fave was Trouble in High Heels (Fortune Hunter, #1) by Christina Dodd , and Susan Andersen writes a great contemp too:-)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I just ordered Shadow Dance on clearance from B&N. The hardcover was $4.99

Melanie that's how I've felt about Noah's story. It seems that his solo story wasn't good or couldn't touched his guest appearances in the other books.

The same was for Cole Clayborne in my eyes.

I've read Christine Dodd book you mention above. It's wasn't really to my liken.

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments Melanie wrote: "...Have you tried C.Dodd's contemps?..."

Yes, I own and loved them all. I eagerly await the release of Dodd's next paranormal on July 6: Chains of Ice. I don't find enough steamy sex in Anderson's books to hold my interest, I guess I'm just a readin' tramp.

@Arch: I have yet to read a good chick lit, if you find one, kindly advise.

@Molly : for chick-lit, what about Jennifer Crusie? Bet Me and Crazy For You are two of my faves and hilarious in my eyes:-) Otherwise I really enjoyed SEP's What I Did for Love:-)

I really do like Mary Balogh's books. You might start with the Slightly books.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I've never read anything by MB. I have lots of her books, as I've picked them up at UBS but not yet opened one.

These are the books I have:

Balogh, Mary – Slightly Married, Slightly Dangerous, A Summer To Remember,1.One Night For Love, 2.Slightly Sinful, Slightly Wicked. {Dark Angel, Lord Carew’s Bride – 2 stories in one book}

I'm not sure what order they go in though. LOL

Start with A Summer to Remember or Dark Angel/Lord Carew's Bride. I haven't read the last two, but they are some of her older books that are very much loved by her fans.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Thanks, Danielle!!! I have Summer to Remember down for one of my All Things Summer reads.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) I've just started Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7) by J.R. Ward

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish That was a great book, Carol. Are you a BDB fan or just trying them out?

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) UniquelyMoi *~*Dhestiny*~* wrote: "That was a great book, Carol. Are you a BDB fan or just trying them out?"

I am a BDB fan and have read all the books apart from this one and Lover Mine. My favourite is definitely Lover Awakened. Zsadist is just the ultimate dark, dangerous and tortured hero and Bella is such a plucky heroine to take him on.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Oh yes, Z is my favorite, too. I think it's his tortured soul that draws me to him.

message 737: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 411 comments Thanks Danielle:-)

Carol and UM, I kind of think Z is everyone's favorite!!! I also need to get down to reading the last two books now that I have them, but I need to reread the first books in the series to remember everything that happened, what a drag huh? LOL

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish The WARDen has said that Z is her favorite, too. I think she said V is her second favorite, even more so since seeing what she has about him in the upcoming book. I was floored at her comments.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Here's the link in case you haven't read it already:

V's role in the upcoming book

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments I, too, am into Z and V. I've only read the first two books in the BDB series so far, but I have five more ready for when I slot them into the schedule.
The Gift of Love by Lori Foster
Today I can report completion of The Gift of Love by Lori Foster and a bunch of folks I'm not familiar with. All of the stories were good.

You can read my review at
Mollie's review of The Gift of Love

I also blew through Hot as Sin by Bella Andre, but do not recommend it... she's got some serious problems crafting the plot and depicting the characters.

Now I'm reading Burning Lamp by Amanda Quick for the second time ... I love getting all the nuances I missed the first time around a couple of months ago.
Burning Lamp (Arcane Society, #8) by Amanda Quick ... this isn't what the cover of my hardcover edition looks like, but it'll have to do.
