Please sign up here if you would like participate in our bookmark swap. The theme for this swap is Literary Inspirations. You can design your bookmarks around a book, character, or quote. We will divide up into groups of 10-12 depending on how many wish to participate. You will make that many bookmarks and send them to us along with a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope by a specific time. When all the bookmarks are received we will divy them up and send back to you 10-12 new bookmarks.

Do the bookmarks have to be homemade? Or for those of us who are artistically and craftily challenged, is it okay to buy 12 literary theme bookmarks to send in? People probably would not want to receive any bookmark that I "made". :o)

Debbie | 415 comments Sheila - I made bookmarks last year, and I'm craftily challenged LOL!

you could buy them if you want but truly you don't have to be an artist to make your own either. they arent going to be judged afterall. You could go easy or elaborate. However I wouldn't say anyone couldnt because they didnt want to make them. Whatever you feel comfortable with. :)

message 8: by Marsha (new)

Marsha (earthmarsha) | 1586 comments I'll give it a try. I have an idea or two that might work out. How much time will we have?

Marsha (earthmarsha) | 1586 comments For those of us who might be a little unsure of our bookmark making capabilities, could you experienced Chicks share the sort of materials you've used?

message 15: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments I'm in!!

Marsha, Last year I took some heavy paper and used my scissors that cut designs around the outside edge, then punched a hole in top with hole punch where I tied on a ribbon and put cute stickers on them. So easy.

For those of you who want to buy bookmarks, I got a couple like that last year and loved them too! It's the thought and the person they come from that counts for me! Every time I use a different bookmark, I think of the person who sent it to me!

message 16: by Rina (last edited Feb 15, 2010 05:07AM) (new)

Rina (karinaskoglund) I want to participate! :D

Do we pick one literary inspiration and make all bookmarks based on that, or do we make all the bookmarks with different literary inspirations?

And can I participate even though I live in Norway or is it only for people in a certain country?

message 17: by Tera, First Chick (new)

Tera | 2564 comments Mod
You can participate from anywhere, since you are sending a SASE you're paying for shipping both ways.

Past bookmarks have been
Beads on string
cardboard with pictures glued on
stamped
bought

really anything goes. I bet you could even do a google search for handmade bookmarks and find a bunch of ideas if you wanted to go that route.

Most make the same one 10-12 times but you certainly could make each of them different.

message 18: by Angela (new)

Angela Holland (bookaunt) Here is a place for you guys to look for some bookmarks that are handmade. I scrapbook, make cards, and bookmarks and I get a lot of my inspiration for cards and bookmarks from here.

message 19: by Pam (new)

Pam (pammylee76) I'll join in. Sounds like fun!

message 20: by Rina (new)

Rina (karinaskoglund) What is a SASE? :(

message 21: by Rina (new)

Rina (karinaskoglund) No, I don't, but I could ask and stuff when I know where to send the book marks and from where they are going to send them back to me.

While I haven't done this bookmark swap before, I've made bookmarks from card stock you can get in the scrapbooking section of the craft store (sometimes called Mat Stacks & usually about 6.5"s x 4.5"s which I cute down to make at least 2 bookmarks from 1 card) and used a glue stick to put my pics on them or used scrapbooking stickers & "embelishments." To give it a bit of a "tail" I usually use yarn.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Karina wrote: "What is a SASE? :("

Self addressed stamped envelope.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Brenda wrote: "self addressed stamped envelope

how do you know how much the postage is?"

I'm assuming that you can ask the postal clerk to mark the empty envelope with the equivalent postage of the envelope with the bookmarks in it, right Tera?

Mandy Sue (mettakaruna) | 811 comments Do they have to be customary book marks or can you make magnetic ones, etc?

message 28: by Angela (new)

Angela Holland (bookaunt) Tera - I would be willing to be in two groups even. I have an obession with bookmarks and love making them. Just let me know when the time comes.

message 29: by Tera, First Chick (new)

Tera | 2564 comments Mod
You can always guesstimate. Basically it's going to be what you are paying to send it out put the same postage on your SASE as you put on your original envelope. That should cover it. If not I can always fork out for a stamp or two if need be.

I love the magnetic ones! :~)

message 38: by Angela (new)

Angela Holland (bookaunt) I can't wait either. I have two bookmark swaps and two card swaps I am doing so I am getting ready to create.

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 390 comments Cindy wrote: "Kat...your enthusiasm is contagious!!! "

hehehehe........ I stopped by the craft store on the way home and got some goodies too!! I used to play with a photo program and made my own frames, tubes, backgrounds etc....... and I got away from it when I started back to grad school....... this will be a good way to relax!!!! Have I said that I can't wait?!?!?!?!?!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) LoL Kat! Love your enthusiasm! I'm already sketching out a few different idea's myself! Hope to get out to the craft store before the next snow storm hits Monday. (Hope the new ink cart's arrive for the printer too!)

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) LoL Brenda! Sorry! Have to plan for these things this Winter, especially since I don't drive much anymore.

message 42: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2175 comments Send snow this way!! Lots and lots. Enough to keep Jen home from work. It's a sad state of affairs when Texas has more snow than upstate New York. I've been snow dancing my buns off and there's barely enough to break out the shovel. Stupid El Nino . Hehe!

I can't wait to get started making mine, either. Have any of you picked out your Literary Inspirations yet? There's so many possible choices, I don't even know where to start!!

message 43: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I live just south of Syracuse, Brenda. The blizzards seem to hit the NY/ PA border and retreat. I don't know our total for the winter, but right now we've got about 6-8 inches on the ground. Ship away! I'll take it!

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 390 comments It snowed here 2 days last week(Friday and Sunday)! In Alabama!!!! Tomorrow its going to be 60 degrees!

South Alabama got almost 7 inches.... go figure!

I think snow is pretty.... but I can look at pictures!! People here can't drive when its raining, or sunshine..... much less snow!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Not here Brenda! People drive like idiots regardless of the weather and it only gets worse with precipitation! lol

message 46: by Rina (new)

Rina (karinaskoglund) Here in Norway it's snow overload right now. It's been a constant snow storm for the last couple of days, and we don't even own a shovel. Didn't think we'd need one, but the balcony is full of snow, since we live on the top floor of the apartment building. Lost my dog the other day while I was cleaning. Figures out he had snuck out the balcony door, and was lost in the snow out there. Poor thing, haha.
