And i especially hate the Los Angeles County tax office phone tree. You have to listen to all the menu options before you can select one, even if you know which option you need. You have to listen to the recorded voice tell you the web address, because most of the information available over the phone can be accessed online (if you have a pin number set up. i don't). After you choose an option, you get to listen to the recorded voice ask if you wouldn't really rather look online, because theres a high call volume, and there's still more goddamn phone tree to navigate and it'd be soo much easier just to hang up and go look online (i tried that before i called, fucker). Three branches and two "try our website" later, i get "due to high call volume, we may not be able to answer your call right away. if you get a busy signal, try calling again later." Guess what? That's right. After all the time i spent on the phone with a goddamn machine, after options i can't bypass without hearing all the options (and how do i know the fucking options? because i just fucking called an hour ago, and half an hour before that). And every single fucking time i call i have to navigate through the whole fucking thing before i even get to find out if i'm going to get a busy signal. That's right, a busy signal. Calls don't go into a queue. They don't go to an additional line. They don't go to an answering machine. You get a fucking busy signal, and a "call back later and who knows, maybe you'll luck out the next time you call and waste your time navigating our phone tree, and you won't get a busy signal. Probably not, but maybe!" Fucking LA county.

That's sadistic. Usually phone trees will let you cut through the menu if you know what next button you need to push.
All this time I thought you were talking about a fucking cell phone tower that sorta but not much looks like a tree.
This is for real. Most counties let you do a property tax lookup online, with no password-- all you need is a parcel number and in some cases just an address or owner name. Some counties in Texas, Michigan, California, and a few other places you can't do that without a password or account or information that's on the bill, or without paying some small fee, so we have to call. LA county is the only one with such an awful phone system, and the only one that i have to call on a semi-regular basis.
"on a semi-regular basis. "yuck, I would have been crawling walls if I had to do that on a semi-regular basis. Having to suffer through stuff like this everytime my internet breaks is aweful enough. But at least you are getting paid for it, right?
