Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Hahaha, my brother in law asked "who's the hot chick?" the first time he saw LotR! I love Orland0, he is in my 5, lol, but I still don't like the long, girly hair.

Shoulder length can be hot sometimes, but all this waist length or down his back type hair is just yuck. I sometimes wonder if the authors are stuck in the 70's or 80's and still think that look is sexy or something.

message 1252: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Thats hilarious! He acually asked that?

I'm still against long hair on guys, but it didn't look horrible on Orlando

message 1253: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments It was so funny, we still tease him about it.

message 1254: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I would never let my brother live that down!:p

Irene Hollimon | 89 comments I just read Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer and it was...
pretty good
It set up Romeo and Juliet situation on the first page- Gaurdian/Juliet/Calla Searcher/Romeo/Shay
I kept on hoping they'd break away from that and Calla would give Ren a chance. I'm team Ren. It didn't happen- next book comes out this summer though- and this book was good enough that I'll try book 2. I've got hope.

message 1256: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished listening to Inside Out. It was a good futuristic YA read. I am now reading Silver Borne. It's always good to read about Mercy.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Just finished Wither (Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano . It was sort of a mind f*ck in places, and sometimes I found myself creeped out by some of the content, but overall I really liked the book.

message 1258: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments I just read Clarity by Kim Harrington and it was awesome! I'd totally recommend it. Clare was a refreshing YA heroine and the mystery was interesting.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 185 comments I just finished Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1) by Amanda Hocking Torn (Trylle Trilogy, #2) by Amanda Hocking Ascend (Trylle Trilogy, #3) by Amanda Hocking and it was pretty good...kind of a new take on YA paranormal..pretty quick reads I finished all 3 in 2 days

message 1260: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments ^^ I loved her book Hollowland (The Hollows, #1) by Amanda Hocking and it had a tiny bit for the first Trylle book at the end of it. She has another series, My Blood Approves, as well. I do plan on reading both series someday since I loved Hollowland so much.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments My Blood Approves is like 99 cents for the ereaders, so I picked it up, but never got around to reading it. She must be doing something right because her name has been all over multiple groups I'm in.

message 1262: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Hollowland was only 99 cents too. It did have a few errors, but for the price you can't beat it. I would rather pay $1 for good writing/plot and a few grammatical errors, than get a freebie and have it full of errors and cringe worthy writing.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 185 comments I have My Blood Approves and will get to it soon....my mom told me to try Hollowland too....it is in my TBR pile which seems to get bigger and bigger every day

message 1264: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) I agree, Hocking really is everywhere. Might have to give her a try soon.

Hmm...first time I've hearrd of her.

message 1266: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I have a few friends that have read her books. Hollowland's cover has changed, it used to be like this (which I like because it is different):

message 1267: by Suzanne (last edited Mar 16, 2011 07:43AM) (new)

Suzanne So I know I'm a little late to join the band wagon but I just finished The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins and absolutely loved it!! Already started Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins

message 1268: by Angela (new)

Angela B That's ok Suzaane I only jumped on the band wagon last month I believe it was...did love it!

message 1269: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading Silver Borne and as usual enjoyed Briggs' writing. Her stories are so easy to read and that takes great skill as a writer. Silver Borne was more about Mercy's relationships with Adam and the pack than about the silver borne. It also enlightened us on the interworkings of pack bounding and gave us more background on some of the characters. Didn't really buy the Samuual love interest, but it was sweet.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I just finished the most adorable YA book.

The characters were fairly darn realistic, which made it feel refreshing. It was one I had been avoiding for a while because I don't usually get into realistic fiction, but people kept telling me how good it was and I really found it to be so cute, snarky and the drama was not fake angsty, but exactly how young people of that age would act.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

message 1271: by Irene (new)

Irene Hollimon | 89 comments I just read the first two books of the psy-changeling series Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh and Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling, #2) by Nalini Singh
and they were... good
They start out with good sexual tension and then there is a side of mystery. I like that
I've been reading so many young adult novels that I need to take a break and read some romance once in a while.

message 1272: by Angela (new)

Angela B I finished Web of Lies (Elemental Assassin, #2) by Jennifer Estep it was a good book and I enjoyed it overall. However the way things are repeated over and over and over again in the book drives me nuts! We probably could have knocked out 10 pages if she only descripted each rune she talked about once...instead of 10 times...GAG!

message 1273: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) She does get pretty repetitive Angela, but I like the series a lot despite of some flaws. Plus, I think the books get better each time. The third is the best yet, imo.

message 1274: by Angela (new)

Angela B Good to know Vivian, I do plan on continuing it but for some reason the way she repeats that stuff just gets to me

message 1275: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
The runes are about the only thing in the book that I don't love. But that's because tere's a greater emphasis on them than necessary. However, it has to do with her past and what will happen in the future so I get why she does it.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Just finished Bonded by Blood (Sweetblood, #1) by Laurie London which turned out to be a surprisingly awesome read. The author has generously agreed to be reviewed on my blog!!

message 1277: by Sooz (new)

Sooz Malinoski (soozee) | 55 comments Just Finished Kiss of a Demon King (Immortals After Dark, #7) by Kresley Cole , and was a bit disappointed, since I love Rydstrom in the previous book, so I was keen on seeing his story.. Too much time spent on his shaft.....

Finished Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #2) by J.R. Ward , and OMG!!! Why did I wait to start reading this series?

message 1278: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Shaft?

I hear you about the Shaft. It did kind of over power the book at times. Still enjoyed it.

message 1280: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments I just finished Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King and it was wonderful. Sad, perfect in capturing how life and people aren't perfect, but meaningful and beautiful all the same. Made me tear-up a couple times.

message 1281: by Angela (new)

Angela B So I just read Still Missing by Chevy Stevens all I could say when I finished this book was "holy fucking wow" Really really good book

message 1282: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I just finished Never Again (Wizards of Nevermore, #1) by Michele Bardsley , which was better than I expected. If you like this author's Broken Heart series you will like this one.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Just added that one to my list Darcy. Thanks for the tip.

I promise to read Still Missing Angela. Hopefully *fingers crossed* in May.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Angela wrote: "So I just read Still Missing by Chevy Stevens all I could say when I finished this book was "holy fucking wow" Really really good book"

Just added that to my future purchase pile. It sounds so goosebump good . . .

message 1285: by Angela (new)

Angela B Sounds good Stacia and Shera, it was very good. I loved the last line in the book :)

message 1286: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I read it months ago, so can second Angela's recommendation, it is very good!

message 1287: by Shera (Book Whispers) (last edited Mar 27, 2011 02:10PM) (new)

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Yeah, I saw your review Darcy. ^_-

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Darcy, are you going to read the horsemen of the apocalypse book that comes out the same day as the new BDB? I have a thing for the riders of the apocalypse, so hope to get to it soon.

Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #1) by Larissa Ione

message 1289: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments I'm definitely buying that series. I loved her Demonica series. :)

Q: Is the horsemen of apocalypse thing a religious story, or like greek mythology? I've never heard of it before. O.o

message 1290: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
It's a Christian story. Revelations, end of the New Test.

message 1291: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments Oh okay. That's odd, I asked all my Christian friends and even one of their parents if they new anything about the Horsemen and they all replied no.

I do plan on it. I am #1 on the list for it at the library, so will get it first, but we will see how long it takes them to get it to me. I really liked her other series, so I have high expectations for this one.

I wasn't paying attention for the new BDB book and won't get it until the second go round with all the copies. I am somewhere around #40, but they ordered 25 copies, so hopefully it will go fast.

Umm...that's really disturbing, Jasmine. I have noticed (from a teaching perspective) that practicing Christians tend to be the least aware of their own religion. Jews, Muslims, and Hindus that I teach tend to have actually read the books their beliefs are based on, rather than bits and pieces. They might interpret them in interesting ways, but it seems that statistically, they know at least know the stories better. I remember when most obsessive and outspoken Christian wondered why we were discussing Exodus when talking about Judaism. He said, "what do the Hebrews have to do with the Jews? Isn't that a Christian story?" It took effort not to bang my head on a desk. He goes to church 4 days a week. You think he would learn about the history of his religion while there at some point. Obviously, not EVERYONE is that way, but I'd say that about 95% of the Christians I know haven't read more than 100 pages of the Bible.
(Sorry, I have issues with anyone, no matter what their choices are, believing in something without actually knowing where the belief came from, reading the documents themselves, and then establishing where they stand on said belief. It's okay if you're studying to see where you stand, but if you're a "die hard" then you better know your stuff. If I offend someone then I'm sorry, but I don't see why asking someone to actually read a book that they put so much faith into is negative thing.)

message 1294: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments 100% agree. Weird thing is one of them is really into their religion, and two of my friends who I asked teach religion classes. O.o

Seeing as they're kind of there at the "end of the world" it's kind of memorable part. I think I knew the creation story, noah's ark, some guy died on a cross, there were 3 wise men, and 4 scary ass horsemen by the time I ever even set foot in a church or knew what a Christian was. And that was back around 5 or 6 years old. My mothers agnostic, but thinks she's episcopalian, dad aethiest and I still managed to get that info. I know that's not normal, but the adult you asked should of known.

Totally agree. I really don't go to church, but when people start talking biblical around me I usually know more then they do. People around here don't know about the horsemen either and it's a huge christian community. I think the Church's just go over the same stuff over and over again never truly covering "all of it."

message 1297: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments Although i do believe in God and my family is Christian (and none go to church smh) I don't really understand someone saying a book is from God and this is what he said this is what you must go by to be a good person and not go to hell.I think the actual Bible might have been meant to be used in a different way when it was created and has since been changed things have been left out and put in to change the peoples views around them. its called the king james "version" ????

Note- This is all just my thoughts and has nothing to do with research or bashing any ones beliefs. Although I would love to study different religions in Grad school or something.
