Yeah, at least the first 100 pages are confusing and boring. Then all of a sudden the book gets really good out of nowhere.

I just read and it was pretty good its marked as young girls romance but it was more of a story of friendship there are like 23 volumes so I guess as the story grows the romance will take more of a lead roll. This was my first manga and I thought that it was a really nice start Although I had some problems with keeping up with the names and faces and sometimes the transilation ended up being broken english I feel I got the overall story.

I love Fruits Basket! I own the first 5 ultimate editions, so the first ten books. The entire series is amazing, and more romance does develop though that's not really the key focus. I lovelovelove Kyo! Definitely on his team. :D

& I never perceived it as broken english. . .maybe I was just so into it I never realized. . .hm.

TI just finished and I really liked it. It did have a ton of similarities to Twilight, but this was like an adult version of it. There was no chasteness in this one, lol.

I was reading the first US edition. They prob went in there and fixed it in the ultimate editions. It was basicly like they had taken the language and translated it to english but didnt fix it to mach english Grammer. It wasnt alot like that but the ones I did find bugged me a lil and I also found it a lil funny.

The audio book for this one is really good too...they have a full cast doing the reading

I keep hearing Twilight comparisons on this one. Honestly I DO NOT like Twilight, it's making me not want to read it, but my morbid fascination needs to.

While there are comparisons, I wasn't sitting there the whole time thinking Twilight. The comparisons were amusing, imo. I thought it was good, but not amazing. And definitely not chaste, LOL.

I liked the story so much that I may invest in the audio one of these days. I've only listened to one audio that had a full cast. It was great.

Wtf is up with GR? I just posted a whole huge post and then after I hit post it showed up as a WoT post I posted last night in another group. Then I refreshed and both posts disappeared. ??????

Anyway I said there are tons of similarities to Twilight like the girs blood being this special delicious blood, vamp mind reading, the male vamp pretty much stalking the girl before they got together, etc... But the tone and writing style are completely different. Also the protagonists are much better imo. Riley is a kick ass woman who is independant and self assured and Eli is sexy and confident. They are great characters.

I liked the begining of but it seemed to get pretty cheesy towards the end. I actually liked Eli, the secondary character better that Riley, the main gal in the book. The book reminded me of a mix of Twilight and Sookie Stackhouse. I will read the next book but mostly to read about the Dupre family and not Riley.

That's how I was introduced to Sookie Stackhouse. I was told it was Twilight for adults. Not so much! But, I'm glad it got me started on this wonderful genre.

Well I've just started Afterlight and I can see were the comparisons can be made. Thankfully I'm enjoying it way more then I thought I would.

You sold me with, "not a lot of world building." The UF's with too much tend to kill me. I have a short attention span.

I get what you mean. I do like UF, but sometimes with a first book it isn't good because so much of the time is spent explaining things so you have a good foundation for things that happen later on.

I have the sample but haven't read it yet. I love P&P so I am hoping I will like it. It's funny I just watched the 2005 movie last night and I am going to watch the mini-series tonight. :)

I read and thought it was great. I am glad I read it because I started and there are things in Reaper that are brought up in MSTS. So far I want to rip Sabine and Nash's face off. Grrrrr.

I just read and I loved it! I have to say, I have a thing for books with drama that makes me want to rip someones hair out. I am not sure what that means about me as a person, lol. IMO, this was the best in the series so far. I am not impressed with the title of the next book, but I would like it now regardless.

I just finished it was pretty good I gave it four stars because it did have some of the information I was looking for like how to run a successful fashion/entertainment business an create a brand that sells. It also had a lot of filler that I felt was not needed but I guess people who are huuuge fans would love that extra information.

Carrie has been repping Kate Daniels for a while.

I STILL need to read book 2 eventually, but it's been so long since I read the first one that I don't remember it and that scares me because book 1 was so dull for me and the thought of reading it again just makes me sort of sigh.

It's frustrating because I hear that books 3 and 4 are really good and one of my closest GR friends swears up and down I'll love it.

It's just that book 1 is a bit more like a more male gear fantasy book with the romance being minimal and the world building being important. (Although, my friend who loves that type of stuff just read Andrews and loved them. He said it was the shortest world building he'd seen. I felt otherwise =) ). Anyway, once the world is established it's easier to get into the books, plus Curran starts to become a possibility and that helps motivate you to see if anything will happen. Their banter is classic.

Schools down here are getting terrible it really scares people away from teaching in this area. They are basicly bringing back segregation they have decided that it makes more sense to keep people with in their neighboorhoods instead of bussing out students so that they can gain education and be around a wide range of races.Also my county is about to loose their accredidation.So basicly people who live in poverty stricken neighboorhoods will not have the oppurtunity to go to a good school with new books and technology because we all know they newer schools that parents generate more money will get the new books and technology. When I lived in GA a highschool lost theirs and the graduating classes degree basicly ment nothing they ended up having to go through alot of crap to finx that.

Here the lower income schools get grants and have better stuff. They just need to pay teachers more in those areas and have higher standards at those schools. Take some of the better teachers from the richer schools. I actually liked working at the mixed, lower income school better than the richer one. That's only if the whole staff is on the same page though. If everyone's working together it's an amazing situation. If not, then the kids take over and learning isn't first on the agenda.
I'm torn on busing since we have kids that take cabs to school here if they're too far out for a bus. If they can't get a cab, the district actually has to pay for a limo to pick the kids up. That would be fine, but 1/2 the kids that are bused don't even want to be in school and throw fits all day in class. If the kid is trying, even if they're not succeeding, then it's worth spending the money, but if the kid just wants to sleep? Then they can go to any school and do that. I'd rather give the kids who really want to try and do something with their lives a chance. I had one kid that was on the fence between that. He would work hard and try. Still a D student, but the effort was amazing. If his dad was back in his life then he was almost non-responsive and he couldn't focus on anything. He's worth the effort and money 100%. The emotional stuff is hard. The kid that tried to play with himself in my class and the only works I ever heard him spoke were invectives...not so much. I go out of my way to try and interact with the kids that seem to have a hard life and to give them attention. I'm not the greatest simply becaue I'm not willing to be wild and crazy and embarrass the crap out of myself but I try and reach each of them in some way. I know some teachers just write them off, but I can't. I'll even sit next to you and do the work with you, but playing with your tiny wieene in my class is just not right.

Although, normal that isn't an "income" issue. I've heard of rich kids doing it too. He just had a drug dealer dad that thought he could do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted (or whomever) and that no one had a right to tell him anything. It rubbed off the kid. I tried to work with him, but he kept getting expelled so he could stay at home so it's hard to help someone when they're only in your class 22 whole days of a semester.
