Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments So how old is your brother? My nephew is 12 and loves Percy Jackson and used to love Cirque da Freak, I thought he might like this series.

My little brother is in the 7th grade so this would be right up his alley. Its starts off jumping right into the story. And I think alot of Middle graders can relate to the changes emotionaly and phisicaly that Vlad is going through as well as it having some hilarious parts that had me LAUGHING OUT LOUD.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Oh, cool!

I totally agree! The books were good but middle school/high school boys would be a good audience.

Irene Hollimon | 89 comments I just read Hourglass (Evernight, #3) by Claudia Gray and it was good, really good.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Glad to hear! So far a lot of readers are saying the books just loose quality as you read them.

message 807: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments Just finished Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon . It was a little cheesy but I think everyone needs some of that every once in a while. Good read... 4 stars!

I've been meaning to get to that one, good to know.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I really liked Born of Night.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Not sure if I really want to read Born of Night. Fantasy Lover didn't exactly blow me away.

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Did you try the next book after Fantasy Lover? It's different. Writing is a little similar, but not quite the same.

Adriana (adrinori) Darcy wrote: "Heather wrote: "I liked Evernight, but the books have tapered off a bit since then for me."

I agree with you about these books."

I actually agree as well....

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Shera (Book Whispers) wrote: "Not sure if I really want to read Born of Night. Fantasy Lover didn't exactly blow me away."

I've only read one of the Dark Hunter books so I can't really judge the series yet, but I liked Born of Night better than the DH one that I read.

Paula (pauldajo) The HelpI'm putting this book down. I do not like the type of characters in the story, specifically Miss Hilly and Miss Leefolt. I've experienced women like that in the late 60's and I don't want to read about them. Hate and immorality disguised as decency and moral behavior. They make me sick. Good writing.

I read that one and really liked it. Yes there are hateful people, but they get theirs in the end. Miss Skeeter and Minnie make sure of that!

message 816: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I read the last two chapters, so there was payback. I just didn't want to read the story. Maybe later.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments No I haven't read any after Fantasy Lover. I plan on doing it, but there are other reads out there until then . . .

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Born of Fire (The League, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

LOVING this series - almost heading into 'fangirl' love here.

I really do plan on reading more of Dark Hunter soon, but this series started off SO much better. I was into these books right away, whereas DH was kind of just okay for me.

message 819: by Isamlq (new)

Isamlq @Stacia: How many books in the series are there? Thanks :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments There are 3 out right now, and it looks like 3 more being published next year.

message 821: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 29, 2010 11:29AM) (new)

Changeless (The Parasol Protectorate, #2) by Gail Carriger and it was disappointing specially since I re-read Soulless right before starting this one. Not enough Lord Maccon, predictable plot and certain characters were so dumb i wanted to slap them. And that cliffhanger ending..guh

message 822: by Jess (new)

Jess | 120 comments I just read Nevermore, I really liked the beginning but the end kind of lost it for me. Blah.

Amanda (peanutty222) Jess wrote: "I just read Nevermore, I really liked the beginning but the end kind of lost it for me. Blah."

Then don't read any more into the series, the other books get worse.

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Umm...Amanda...book 2 of Nevermore isn't out yet. Are you thinking Evermore?

message 825: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) Ahhhh, yes. Evermore. How confusing. I have NOT read Nevermore.

message 826: by Jess (new)

Jess | 120 comments I do that all of the time!

message 827: by Amanda (last edited Dec 01, 2010 07:27AM) (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) I always get Evermore and Evernight mixed up. Now I have to remember there is a Nevermore also.

message 828: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished listening to The Replacement and it was a good story. The book was in 1st person and that person was a changeling who survived into his teens. Very unusual. It is a different twist on the changeling tale and we were able to see Mackie's thoughts and emotions.

message 829: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I have recently finished
Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder - Pretty good start to the series...I've been putting off the next two because I have heard they just don't compete.

Assassin Study (Study, #1.5) by Maria V. Snyder - Nice little short story about Valek.

Lord of Scoundrels (Scoundrels #3) by Loretta Chase - Great historical romance! Loved it!

Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning - I thought it was just okay but plan to continue the series eventually.

Seduce Me at Sunrise (The Hathaways, #2) by Lisa Kleypas - I just love Lisa Kleypas and this one did NOT disappoint!

Amanda (peanutty222) Jessica B wrote: " Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning I thought it was just okay but plan to continue the series eventually...."

I felt the same way with this book. I haven't read any of the other Highlander books, maybe they are better?

message 831: by Angela (new)

Angela B Oh I have Magic Study here at home maybe I should download Assassin Study first

message 832: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments The Highlander books do get better as they go. #3 is where it starts, then from there on it is hard to put them down.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I just finished #3 of Highlander and it was better than books 1 and 2 for sure. I'm finally starting to really like the series.

@ Jessica B,

I'm also reading Seduce me at Sunrise right now. I'm really enjoying it.

message 834: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I will definitely be continuing the Highlander series. Glad to hear that they do get better. I plan to finish them in the new year!

Angela --- I thought Assassin Study was a cute little short story. I don't think it will take away from the others if you don't read it but it does give us the idea of how Valek feels about Yelena.

Stacia --- Seduce me at Sunrise was wonderful! I'm on the next Hathaway book now Tempt me at Twilight and I am also really enjoying that one!!!

The Killing Dance (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #6) by Laurell K. Hamilton

spoiler

and I am so glad that after 6 books Anita FINALLY got some nookie.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I heard that in a few books it goes to straight porn for just about every book! Haven't read the series though.

message 837: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Haha. I thought the same thing and then got shocked pretty quickly in the following books.

message 838: by [deleted user] (new)

spoilers for anita blake

...is it bad that i'm kind of looking forward to the porn? :x Though I did cheat and check wikipedia for spoilers and when it said she got some supercool power that forces her to have sex multiple times a day I was like...are you serious? haha

message 839: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
She kind of becomes an uncontrolable sexbot in a sense...

message 840: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Sex is one thing, but I don't really care to read about orgies.

**spoiler maybe**

yeah soon you'll wish she spots getting it lol

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Haha. I will say that Anita Blake taught me more than I ever needed to know, or wanted to, but at least now I'm educated enough to know that things I once thought physically impossible aren't so much. The series kills me. I'm too much of a prude for it, but when the plot is good it's great. I gave up struggling with them and I've just decided to get over and keep reading as new books come out. There are some books that are good enough to re-read, but others are frightening.

message 843: by Angela (new)

Angela B I would love to re-read the begining of the series personally. Maybe I'll start that next year

message 844: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
I'd take me 20 days to re-read the series. That's a lot of re-reading. Luckily, I remember enough that it's not necessary unless I really want to.

I am loving the Hathaway siblings!

Yup same. I remember reading it and abondoning it 50 pages in (though I can't really remember why. I think I found it a bit boring), but a lot of people recommended it to me so...

Yeah, it's on my literature bucketlist to finish all the anita blake series, so I'm going to struggle through them, even with all the crazy sex scenes haha
