Irene Hollimon | 89 comments I'm in the middle of Witch Craft (Nocturne City, #4) by Caitlin Kittredge and it's pretty darn good. I'm so ADHD that if I get to the fourth book in a series that's saying quite a bit about the series. The story runs a mile minute. But she takes it in a slightly different direction with a lot more personal interaction.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I have read some Pratchett, but for the life of me I can't remember what or how much I liked it. I know I read some of his short stories in the Legends anthology books. I bought them for Jordan and Williams, but I remember reading all of the stories.

Meg (megthefae) | 2 comments I just read Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3) by Richelle Mead and wow, was it good. Starting the fourth one now, Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, #4) by Richelle Mead .
VA <3 Still got Forbidden Game by L.J.Smith to read, and my long-awaited copy of Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare :).

message 454: by Lani (new)

Lani (crahfty) I just read Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning and highly recommend the series! The first book is a bit daunting as the female protaginist got on my nerves and there's a lot of world building, but I believe each book keeps getting better. I can't wait for Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning to come out in January!

Loved it!
starting Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
It's a diversion- not even a little bit urban fantasy or paranormal- but it's good

I will be starting Daemon's Mark (Nocturne City, #5) by Caitlin Kittredge real soon here.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I haven't read this series so I can't recommend it, but almost don't want to put it in the "start a thread" discussion because I'm not sure if anyone here has read it. Not sure where to ask about this to be honest.

The books look SO cheesy, but I keep reading reviews saying that this is a good and funny series.
Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs (Jane Jameson, #1) by Molly Harper Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs

It is ok, a solid "good" read, but not anything to run right out to read.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I read Return to Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #2) by Simone Elkeles yesterday at nap time. I loved it. :D

Going to read Mockingjay sometime today once us girls stop goofing off, lol.

Kind of jealous Carrie.

message 462: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I just read And One Last Thing ... by Molly Harper by the author that Stacia asked about in message 464, and it was a really cute, fun, chic lit read.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Heather wrote: "Kind of jealous Carrie."

Jealous of reading Return to Paradise? Or because I was goofing off, lol.

Ok, I read Mockingjay this weekend. My girlfriends and I were so excited to read this as we loved the first two books. This weekend has been planned for months. Unfortunately, I was super disappointed in it. I was going to rate it 2 stars if not for the last couple pages. I think what bothered us was that is was so different from the rest. Normally this doesn't bother me, I loved Breaking Dawn even though many hated it because it was so different. I didn't feel any of the heart pounding, adrenaline pumped moments as I did while reading the first two books in the series.

Katniss, who I loved previously, was whiny and almost pathetic. I could understand it for maybe a smaller portion of the book, but I have to say she was reminding me more and more of Bella from Twilight with each progressing page. It just didn't sit well with me.

I know a lot of my GR friends loved the book. Maybe my expectations were too high. I know my two besties that read right along with me felt the same way, and the three of us had a lot of different expectations with what we wanted from mockingjay. I am actually kind of surprised we all were disappointed. But alas, we were. At least we all had a blast together anyway, so the weekend wasn't a complete bust.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I had mixed feelings about the book. I enjoyed it just fine, but there were obviously a few things that didn't feel the same as the first two books. The epilogue could have been scrapped altogether, imo.

Don't feel too bad. For all the people that loved it, there was still a fair amount of people that didn't.

I'm reading Raised by Wolves (Raised by Wolves, #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes right now. I'm totally absorbed in it. I love it. I can't stop reading.

Carrie - Return to Paradise.

I loved it (Mockingjay) when I finished it, but then the next morning I kind started nit picking and changing my mind about things. I still enjoyed it, but I think book 1 was the best.

message 467: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I just finsihed Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles and it was very very good Like i've said before she does alot of telling instead of showing you only know thats how they charactes feel about something because they come right out and say it 'I was sad' instead of the reader reading something and putting together oh they are sad. lol but i still enjoyed it and I want to read the others asap.

I keep hearing good things about Raised by Wolves. I'll have to check it out at some point.

message 469: by Paula (last edited Sep 07, 2010 08:20AM) (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished Wormwood and I enjoyed it so much better than the previous book. I am so happy that Wormwood was a good read. I really like the China Bayles mysteries and I was about to give up on them after reading the previous book. Albert's back to writing about mysteries and herbs. Yay!

I finished listening to Kitty Goes to War. Great story. Kitty and Ben's relationship is so strong and wonderful. Vaughn continues to build the universe. I love listening to Kitty's story and her radio story.

it's good solid urban fantasy and I'm told the series gets better as it goes on

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments ^^ It does!

I'm not usually into wolves as much, but I have heard great things about Raised by Wolves. I might have to try it. I really didn't care for Shiver though, and most people that loved this one loved that one too, so I'm not sure I want to buy it.

It was really good Carrie.

Irene Hollimon | 89 comments I liked Shiver
but I LOVED Raised by Wolves- that one wowed me

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Shiver got too much hype, just like Fallen did. Although, I think Shiver was better than Fallen.

message 478: by Irene (new)

Irene Hollimon | 89 comments oh really because I was thinking of reading Fallen- I'll probably pick it up anyway- but I wasn't wowed by Shiver

message 479: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments I just finished Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare it was so good I had to finish it on my day off. I also picked up raised by wolves although i dont know why it doesnt sound interesting to me. It seems very predicatable

message 480: by Irene (new)

Irene Hollimon | 89 comments Give Raised By Wolves a try- it wowed me- best book I've read in a while- However, your criticism is founded. The book stays pretty close to form for it's genre

It definitely gets better! Magic Burns has some great scenes with Kate and Curran. I am re-reading
now. I was absolutely giddy after reading the fourth installment...

message 483: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I absolutely loved the third and fourth! Kate is a great heroine, she doesn't annoy me like a lot of others in the genre. But yet, she is not perfect. She makes mistakes and is believable as a character IMO.

I didn't read at all last night. I watched tv and went to bed. :O I won't be reading much this weekend either since I am helping my gf move.

I really liked this book. Although it was hard for me to believe in Pixies at first. Because my daughter loves Tinkerbelle. LOL But to have them be evil, wow it was cool. I actually got kind of scared in some parts of the book. Cant wait to read book #2.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 185 comments I just finished Eternal Pleasure (Gods of the Night, #1) by Nina Bangs
and really liked it....I had read another book by Nina Bangs and while the premise of the story was good it was a bit slow...this one is free right now on kindle so I thought I would give it a try and was pleasantly surprised.

if anyone is interested here is the link to download the free kindle version
http://www.amazon.com/Eternal-Pleasur...

I would imagine that B&N has it for free for the Nook too (they usually have the many of the same free books)

I just downloaded a bunch of free ones. I don't know why I do it because I never read them, but what the heck. Maybe one day.

I just finished Who Wants To Be a Sex Goddess by Gemma Bruce . It was silly and not necessarily in a funny way. Part of me enjoyed it and part of me thought it was crap. I loved the characters though so ... I just don't know.

I thought the title was funny and was going to use it for a pink book, but it was due Oct 1 so I had to read it earlier.

message 490: by Sooz (new)

Sooz Malinoski (soozee) | 55 comments Just finished . I liked this one and will read soon. I didn't like how the protagonist kept glancing over things, but I do like the mystery aspect. It's the first book as of late that made me want to read the next one....

message 491: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading Blameless and enjoyed it. It was a quick and almost stressless read.

I also finished reading Touching Darkness. The blue time is getting scarier and the Midnighters have quite a fight ahead of them.

message 492: by Angela (new)

Angela B I totally thought I was the only person that read the midnighters series

message 493: by Angela (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Poison Study was great, I'll agree. :) Haven't got a chance to read Magic Study yet.

Poison Study was my favorite.

message 499: by Angela (new)

Angela B I only read like a chapter of storm glass which was the spin off before putting it down because I found out the the Study series came first, and it was so different that it seems hard to believe they are related so far but I guess I still have 2 books in this first series to make it seem similar.

message 500: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
It's because Glass isn't as much of a romance. It's there, but you also have the issue that Poison Study takes place in a diff area than Glass.
