Linda C | 30 comments I am about to start "The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane".

We'll see... reviews here seemed to be mixed...not quite sure how many books of this genre (i.e. lost treasure, lost manuscripts, hidden clues etc.) can actually be written without it getting repetitive... oops, it already is repetitive... clues hidden in old manucripts, wasn't that already written in "The Historian"? Oh well, I'll give this book a chance.

Hi Leea .. well i would be silly not to have everybody loves it .. i read the first book .. i did like it .. however didnt love it .. i bought th second book but havent started yet .. how about you ?

Ow and i haveto say i love the "your mine" part to

Leea | 317 comments I cant believe you did not just "love it" Outlander has some complex story lines that after reading the 7th book are still not put to bed :) Though Claire and Jamies relationship is one constant that you can always count on. I say you read the second book, Dragonfly in Amber. It's filled with French political info but under that all is Jamie and Claire :) I read outlander before the BH so i love Jamie more than Alexander but they are different men and i have a think for Scots :)

Let me know what you think Shell. It's not quite as sexy as some, but I think the story is engaging and the characters compelling.

AJ | 29 comments I have just finished 'On a Highland Shore' by Kathleen Givens.
As obsessed as I am with all things Scottish after reading the Outlander series, it really was a no-brainer when I saw it.
A good story, set in the 13th Century. Yet another Jamie-esque hero (sort of) and a wonderful love story intermingled with history and life of the time. I highly recommend it.

So "The Red Scarf" is also called "Under a Blood Red Sky"? I have both "The Russian Concubine" and "The Red Scarf". They are fun reads but not as addicting. I still hope to read the sequel to "The Russian Concubine"

AJ | 29 comments Yeah. I'm in Australia, and our books are often titled differently from the US - apparently our market is different?
'The Russian Concubine' is in my TBR pile, I'm looking forward to getting to it. I'm not expecting another 'Bronze Horseman' (what is *sigh*) but should be good.

Linda C | 30 comments Hey all--

Question for you... I finally got a copy of Summer Garden, but decided to go back and re-read TBH and T&A first... I've read TBH probably 4-5 times, but this was the first re-read of T&A. Good decision, I actually liked it quite a bit more on the second go around. I'm still a little sceptical that she could actually find A in the fires of post-WWII Europe, much less get him out of a soviet gulag, but putting that aside, it is a great book.

In any case, here's my question-- in my copy of T&A, there was an epilogue which neatly wraps up the next 10 years of their lives in about 20 pages. So neatly, in fact, that I never looked for a third book and stumbled upon TSG quite by accident. Is that epilogue in every copy of T&A, or was it something that was put in some versions and not others? My copy came from Amazon.UK. Why is it there, if she was planning a third book?

I feel like I have some idea of what happened to them (i.e., and they lived happily ever after, according to the epilogue) and the idea of another book, where they aren't living happily ever after, is disconcerting.

message 129: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh you'll love TSG, though I'll be honest with you, you'll find it very hard to read at some points, but the ending is so.... worthy!!!!

Argghhh... I don't have this epilogue in my copy of T&A, though I also didn't have the epilogue in TBH neither, where Tatiana goes back to the Soviet Union 5o years later to see Shura once again, having married Edward... Actually I'm glad I don't have this epilogue...
Anyhow.. READ TSG, it's amazing! :D

message 130: by Linda (new)

Linda C | 30 comments She married Edward is some versions of TBH??? How crazy is that??? I obviously don't have an epilogue in my TBH-- mine ended with her in New York with baby Anthony (and eating bacon).

apparently that alternate ending is found in Tatiana's table, the cook book. Im not a big fan of that ending.

Since your copy is from Europe, perhaps it is a reprint of "The Bridge to Holy Cross" which is T & A but apparently gives a brief and rushed conclusion to Tatiana and Alexander's life. I have a older US copy of T & A. It ends when Alexander is at the American Consulate telling his story and he is granted permission to go back to the States and live. Tatiana waits for him in the hallway for several hours, he comes out and tells her they are going home and that is where my copy ends.

That is the copy I read as well.

message 134: by AJ (new)

AJ | 29 comments I remember reading an interview with Paullina Simons where she said that the Epilogue in T&A was written before she decided to do a follow up book. Once she started writing TSG, the epilogue was removed from all future printings of the T&A.

Both T&A and TBTHC finish at the same point (ie. the American Consulate in Berlin), but the earlier copies of T&A will contain the Epilogue.

I tracked down the epilogue after reading the whole series, and it just glosses over their life over the next 10-15 years or so. Although the little bits that directly follow their return to the US are well worth a read! I'll try to track it down.

Sorry, I guess the "alternate ending" was confusing--it's really just a "what if" scenario from Tatiana's Table, which I would describe as half cookbook, half [what I would describe as:] 'extended scenes'. It is completely different material from the other books, just to clarify.

message 137: by AJ (new)

AJ | 29 comments Alrighty - have received and devoured 'Rivals for the Crown', the sequel to 'On a Highland Shore'. Can highly recommend it! Not really steamy, and no heaving bosoms, but a good story, and a strong (if somewhat predictable) love story - but that's just how we like them isn't it?!

message 138: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 637 comments I've been reading a lot of "bodice rippers" if you will. I am doing an Erotica challenge for April. But I would like to break away and find something epic and as wonderful as an Outlander/TBH. If that is possible! Also may start a new PNR series.

Diane (ladydi4476) | 107 comments That alternate ending in Tatiana's Table is really just a hypothetical situation. Alexander asks Tatiana what would have happened if she had never found him in Berlin. I agree that would have been a terrible ending if they didn't find each other for 50 years.
