Hi Crusader. The first book initially disturbed me somewhat, but I loved the second book and therefore the third -- I wanted to know what happened to the characters. I fear that if you didn't like the second book much, then the third one won't do anything for you either!

message 352: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I think the main reason I enjoyed those books (although I still have to read the last one) is Lisbeth. I love her, she instantly became one of my favourite characters.

I also like that Larsson works issues of sexism and misogyny into the plot, it gives it substance. And I think Erica's relationship with her husband and Blomkvist is awesome.

message 353: by Nix (new)

Nix A very interesting take on Swedish life.

Have you seen this?
http://www.newyorker.com/humor/2010/0...
I think it's kind of hilarious! ;D

message 354: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith LOL, that's very good!

"But where in Sweden were they? There was no way to know, especially if you’d never been to Sweden."
Hahahaha! I ignored almost all the place names, I just read: she's at home now. He is far away. She is very far away but he is catching up to her. Etc.

Yea but this one is a bit different than the series so far, will let you know how it goes :)

Flashforward is soooo interesting!!! Its not like the series. Only 2 characters are the same. Its seems the series only used the idea. But wow this book is fascinating!

Yes, she is quite a good character. Too bad that in the first book she seems to play a minor role (at least based on the amount of text devoted to her).

In the second things pick up somewhat and I definitely enjoyed the 2nd one much more. Guess part of the reason was that much more attention was given to Lisbeth.

Can't wait to hear what you think Crusader!

message 361: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Lauren and Nix
I read the first one, starting the second one soon...

I did like the first, but I dont know what all the hype was about, dont get me wrong, its interesting and a fabulous read, and I really couldnt wait to read more, but there was so much huff about it and I dont see why...

But cant wait to start the second one :)

message 362: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I think you might like the second one more, it's more fast-paced, more focused, and reveals more about Lisbeth.

message 363: by [deleted user] (new)

Cool! She's a very strange character, I still dont know if I really like her or if she anoys me, all I know is I cant wait to see who they cast to play her in the movie...

I'm looking forward to reading the next

Oh Lauren, I got the Colour of Magic!!!!! Thought I'd give Pratchet a try :)

message 364: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Cool, let me know what you think!
It's not my favourite Pratchett (Rincewind kind of annoys me), but other people like it a lot.

message 365: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm liking it so far... its very weird and different to what I'm use to, but I thought I'd start with the beginning of the series (Thanks to Crusaders recomendation :))
The bookstore I go to say that he is so popular you actually have to order his books in...

message 366: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith That's weird - usually it's that he's so popular his books are always in stock. Although of course, it doesn't mean that ALL of them are always in stock.

I hope I can complete my collection one day :)

message 367: by [deleted user] (new)

Well if I like him then I'll start collecting, there are so many books in this series!!!!

I go to a rather small bookstore, but their great because they order the books for me and phone me when their there and their kind of cheap! Its great :)

Looking for some Atwood books to, and then also some by Lisa See

message 368: by Lauren (new)

message 371: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of those books that I keep hearing about but know nothing about. I actually had a copy for a short while, but it was an Angel mooch I had to send to someone else. Let me know if you think I'll like it when you're done :)

Niecole,

Just finished it and was brilliant...quick paced, action packed, easy dialogue. Overall a satisfying read.

Would recommend it to Urban Fantasy fans. Onward and upward to book #2.

Sonette | 384 comments Sookie Stackhouse? No haven't read it yet. I haven't been too enthusiastic to read it though because I watched both seasons of the TV series. Are the books different to the series?

message 389: by [deleted user] (new)

I've got some Margaret Atwood books I could send you... The Penelopiad is rather good. So is the Handmaids Tale.
I've also got some Stephen King

message 390: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
The books are different Sonette, but still highly enjoyable! Nr 4 and 7 are the best!!

message 391: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Sonette, so how is Ammityville going? If you dont like it, I've got some other books you might enjoy

I'm also starting to read the Sookie Stackhouse books, got the copy, next in my to be read list

message 392: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Sonette wrote: "Sookie Stackhouse? No haven't read it yet. I haven't been too enthusiastic to read it though because I watched both seasons of the TV series. Are the books different to the series?"

Hi Sonette, I think you should read the Sookie books as they are completely different fro the tv series. I watched a few episides of True Blood ut found it too dark for me, and I much preferred the books which are light and funny, you cannot compare the 2, so I would say give them a shot.

message 393: by Sonette (new)

Sonette | 384 comments Okay so I just finished Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White and reading The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson and Blind Fury by Lynda La Plante !

Hi Niecole, please let me know how the Other Queen is, I got borrowed it from the library at the weekend.

message 399: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Emma

The Other Queen is good, but trust me, its not Gregory's best work. It starts out slow, really slow, but then it picks up, and now I find that I cant put it down! Its written in 3 perspectives, so that makes it interesting as well

Do you like reading about royalty Emma?
