Christine | 1127 comments I'm almost finished with Embers (Anya Kalinczyk, #1) by Laura Bickle and I've enjoyed it, especially for a first in series. Nothing in particular jumps out as spectacular so I can see how the series got lost in the glut of new UF series few years ago, but honestly, I enjoyed her writing and story telling more than some other series that were picked up and continued. I love her relationship with her familiar, Sparky, and I liked seeing Detroit as the backdrop to a series. I'll probably go ahead and read Sparks (Anya Kalinczyk, #2) by Laura Bickle next.

Love the Wallflowers and the Hathaways! And the audio versions have a great narrator.

Claudia Ayala (claudia_ayala) | 149 comments I finally finished the Mercy Thompson series. I liked Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, #7) by Patricia Briggs and Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs , but with the last one, I felt that the author left to many unanswered questions… I understand it’s important to keep the readers interested in the next book, but I think she left too many open threads.

Also, read Rock Hard (Rock Kiss, #2) by Nalini Singh . Nice book, though not my favorite.

Now I´m with the Dresden Files, but I'm not hooked yet... read Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher and Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2) by Jim Butcher . Currently reading Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, #3) by Jim Butcher .

I really like the Dresden Files. I think it gets better the longer you read and the more you come to learn about (and become attached to) the characters. But it's also a series that I could only read about three books in a row and then had to take a break and read something lighter. A lot happens in those Dreseden books.

message 34968: by Christine (new)

Christine | 1127 comments Listening to The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld, #7) by Gena Showalter and I think four in a row of this series might have been too much, because I'm starting to eye-roll over some of the declarations of love and devotion, but otherwise I am enjoying the story. Although, I don't get "we can't have sex until I break up with my boyfriend" but we can still have mind blowing oral sex with one another, 'cause somehow that doesn't constitute cheating. Really?!

message 34969: by Christine (new)

Christine | 1127 comments I started reading The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan the other day and it's quite fascinating so far. I've learned some things about women's roles in America in the first half of the twentieth century and how they shifted in the forties and fifties that I hadn't fully realized before. I hope it continues to be as interesting, because it's a pretty thick book....

Shari Kay wrote: Love to know what you think about this one

It was...okay. The book is bogged down with the author setting up the universe and back stories of EACH character in first half of the book, which is no exaggeration. It wasn't until right before the 50% mark that actual stuff started happening. The two romantic leads were meh. They didn't do much with each other, and I'm not just referring to bed times. I'm interested enough to read the next book though

That's great Rachel :) I love it when reading buddies have similar reading tastes so we can get reading options from each other. Okay so from that pile LOL! there were lots of good reads but these are my top loved ones:
Stolen A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher very emotional and once you get through the first half it sort of "clicks into place" what the author is doing and doing so well and it's genius. You don't know what to feel or who to feel it for. Very conflicting in an ingenious way. The Conspiracy of Us (The Conspiracy of Us #1) by Maggie Hall very enjoyable from start to finish and nonstop action which I loved. Great plot. The Deal (Off-Campus, #1) by Elle Kennedy fantastic!! OMG HILARIOUS awesome banter between the main characters and wonderfully written and cannot wait for book 2 from this new series! The Secret (Irin Chronicles, #3) by Elizabeth Hunter I absolutely LOVE this trilogy and this last book wrapped everything up in a great way. I'm so excited that EH is going to be writing more stories for this Irin world she created because there are some great characters that I want to get their stories too. The Winner's Crime (The Winner's Trilogy, #2) by Marie Rutkoski great followup to the first book but now I have to sit and wait for book 3 after the sort of cliffhanger ending so heads up hahaha! But still just an awesome read. Mr. Beautiful (Up in the Air, #4) by R.K. Lilley OMG can we get a HELL YEAH??!! Ahhh hello, all the HOT HOT men from In The Air and D & T trilogies give their insights and POV on some of the most emotional past scenes as well as into the future for all of them and it fanfreakingtastic!! Confess by Colleen Hoover this one wasn't as great as my top loved ones from CoHo but it was still pretty dang good! Honestly, CoHo, EH, K.Cole, A.Kristen, Amy Harmon can write dirt and I'd read it LMAO! they're just effin brilliant imo Grim (Tornians, #1) by M.K. Eidem surprinsingly really good and I'm so looking forward to reading more of this series. Interesting world building and storyline. I went with the audio on this one because I'd read great reviews for the audio recommending it as opposed to the ebook and I'm so glad that I did because the sound effects that were added to it were great. Reasonable Doubt Volume 1 (Reasonable Doubt, #1) by Whitney Gracia Williams Reasonable Doubt Volume 2 (Reasonable Doubt, #2) by Whitney Gracia Williams Reasonable Doubt Volume 3 (Reasonable Doubt, #3) by Whitney Gracia Williams great story, much better than I first thought it was going to be. Ended up liking this a lot. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern Simply beautiful. Just achingly beautiful. Very intricate and detailed storytelling though so it's long but worth it by the end. Can't wait to see what they do with the movie version of this one. I'm crossing my fingers that they do it justice. The Mime Order (The Bone Season, #2) by Samantha Shannon OMGOMGOMG! Just, OMG! Unbelievable. Beautiful Beloved (Beautiful Bastard, #3.6) by Christina Lauren Love this whole series, just love it to itty bitty pieces and this one was just as fantastic. The Five Stages of Falling in Love by Rachel Higginson Such an emotional achingly beautiful gut-wrenching well written story of love and loss. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes Another emotional gut-punching tearjerker than will leave you filled with joy and sorrow. LOVED LOVED it so much and cannot wait to see it on the big screen. Bound by Flames (Night Prince, #3) by Jeaniene Frost another great followup in Vlad's story and I just love Mr Hottness. Burned (Fever, #7) by Karen Marie Moning SO GOOD!! Especially since we get more Barrons and Mac! Did I mention there's more Barrons??!! LOL! But all joking aside, it was awesome. Very excited to get the next Fever book asap. The Gamble (Colorado Mountain, #1) by Kristen Ashley Great start to KA's Colorado series and loved it. Funny and heartfelt and hot as only KA can do it. Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown Okay so once you get through the first half of the book with all the world building and setup, this one takes off like a bandit and never lets go. So hang in there and you will be very well rewarded because DYAMM!! Awesome! I have book 2 sitting and ready for all systems go in my kindle and I hear that it's even more spectacular than this first book so YAY! Dead of Winter (The Arcana Chronicles, #3) by Kresley Cole OMG AAAHHH SO GREAT! This Arcana Chronicles series is just BRILLIANT! And this third book was go go go from page 1 all the way to the last page. But again, cliffie ending GRRRR!! But SO FREAKING AWESOME! The Book of Ivy (The Book of Ivy, #1) by Amy Engel What a wonderful surprise this book ended up being. I enjoyed it from start to finish. Nice and refreshing dystopian story and I'm very excited for the upcoming release of book 2. This Shattered World (Starbound, #2) by Amie Kaufman Just as spectacular as book 1. Seriously this series is another HOMERUN WINNER in my book. Both books so far have been amazing. And just so you know Under Different Stars (Kricket, #1) by Amy A. Bartol Sea of Stars (Kricket, #2) by Amy A. Bartol is AMAZING!! Hands-down one of the best YA female characters I've read in a PNR/YA story. She's HILARIOUS! She's narky, dry-humored, sarcastic, smart-ass, kickass, intelligent, down to earth, just an amazing character and the story and world-building character development, everything is simply on point in this series. Highly recommend this one.

Rachel | 192 comments Belkis, THANK YOU!!!! That was really helpful and I added a ton to my TBR/Amazon Wishlist.

I'm about to start The Singer (Irin Chronicles, #2) by Elizabeth Hunter because I'm a huge EH fan as well. I didn't realize book 3 was out this year!

I also enjoyed The Mime Order (The Bone Season, #2) by Samantha Shannon , especially when I found out that it's going to be a seven book series. It helped me feel better about some of the plotlines that seemed to be moving at a snail's pace (Warden, hello!!)

Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown and Golden Son (Red Rising Trilogy, #2) by Pierce Brown have to be two of my fav books of the last few months. Glad to see you enjoying them as well!

I have This Shattered World (Starbound, #2) by Amie Kaufman sitting in its Amazon box about two feet from me right now. I'm glad to hear that it was so amazing! The first book set a high standard!!

I'll be keeping a (not-at-all stalkerish) eye on your reading list this summer!

***SPOILER-ISH: I know a lot is being said about this book, but I liked it. I like that JR Ward is different, yet consistent in her series. It isn't my favorite book, but I respect and admire it.

***SPOILER-ISH: Also, it has Rhage/Mary and they're my favorite lol And I may be the only person who is very curious and liking Layla/Xcor.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I'm STILL reading City of Heavenly Fire as my YA (drawing it out without meaning to, but am enjoying it).
