Jacque | 9 comments I just finished reading Souless and changeless by Gail Carriger. I LOVED them both and can't wait for the next one to come out in Sept! The characters are so fun - anyone else read them?

This series is great, I am on the 5th book right now and am sad to think I will have to wait for the next in the series to come out. Read them, you won't be sorry.

Erin (erin-b) Finished Kiss of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #1) by Lara Adrian last night and didn't love it. I keep deviating off my challenge lists, but oh well. Next up, I think I'll be reading King of Sword and Sky (Tairen Soul Series, Book #3) by C.L. Wilson and One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, #2) by Jeaniene Frost . Loving both of those series.

Patricia (catnaping) Finished [image error] I can't wait for the next book.I also finished The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan on Audio.I'm now reading Warrior Ascended (Sons of the Zodiac, #1) by Addison Fox and listening to Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon on Audio.

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 451 comments I thought Soulless was one of the best books I've read in a long time. I'll wait to read Changeless till the third one comes out in September. I hate, loathe, and despise cliffhangers. Usually, if I know that a series author uses them, I won't read the series. I've been burned a few time when a series is dropped by the publisher and never finished-or the author takes two or three years to finish the next book. By that time, who cares? Ongoing series with the same set of characters are fine as long as something gets resolved at the end of the book. I have no problem with an overarching plotline that carries through a series to be resolved at the end of the series-just no individual cliffhangers at the end of intermediate novels, please.

message 6757: by Jacque (new)

Jacque | 9 comments Yep, I definately wish I would have waited until closer to September to read Changeless! The cliff hanger there is a killer! I agree about the time it takes some authors - Diana Gabaldon is that way - to complete a book, several years is just to long to hold an audience.
How did you know Changeless would have such a cliffhanger?

Hi Jesslynn,

If you start Outlander, beware - be patient with the first couple of chapters because they will seem kind of slow but after about the 4th chapter, I promise you won't be able to put it down. Once you finish Outlander, I promise you will want to rush into the second book of the series.

message 6767: by Jacque (new)

Jacque | 9 comments Outlander was wonderful, I thought! The best part about you starting it now is that there are so many books to read in the series. Those of us who have read them as they came out had to wait very long times in between. I will the last one, An Echo in the Bone, I think was disappointing to me. I'm hoping the last few chapters in it were a dream or something! They were pretty bad! Over all the books are great and just take you on a great adventure!

Hi Jacque, I agree about reading it now because I read it last year and I was glad I was able to buy all the books at once and didn't have to wait for them to come out. I haven't read An Echo in the bone yet.

message 6769: by Jacque (new)

Jacque | 9 comments Hey Ronda,
You'll have to read it and tell me what you think! I am having a serious problem trying to find a new author to read. I read a lot and fast! I really loved Souless and Changeless, which are different than my usual. I don't like waaay to much explicit sex like Lora Leigh's type of book. I get bored with it ! LOL! I love strong female characters. I loved the BDB series and I loved the Arcane Society series so I am pretty easy to please! Any ideas?

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 451 comments Hi Jacque!
I went to the author's website and found a short synopsis of each of the books. Be careful, though. They're a little bit spoilery (Is that a word?). I have no problem with spoilers, though. Just cliffhangers.
I see that you like Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle. Have you tried any of her old (and I do mean old) stand alone sci-fi romance stuff? I particularly liked Sweet Starfire. Crystal Flame is another one. I think they've been re-released in the last couple of years. If you like her style, you might like these.

I've read "Soulless" and loved it. It was my favorite read of 2010 so far. I have "Changeless," but I haven't started it yet. I have a few books to read for challenges this month, so I might not get to it until May. I both love/hate cliffhangers, so I don't mind if it ends in one and I have to wait a few months for the next one. I liked "Soulless" too much to put it off for much longer. :)

Hi Jacque, I looked at your read list and notice you liked paranormal, fantasy, and mystery reads. If you like a mixture of historical romance with fantasy and some paranormal, You should try Marion Zimmer Bradley's/Diana Paxton Avalon Series. The books in the series include:

1.The Fall of Atlantis
2.Ancestors of Avalon
3.Sword of Avalon
4.Ravens of Avalon
5.The Forest House
6.Lady of Avalon
7.Priestess of Avalon
8.The Mists of Avalon

You should read them in this order because of the time line period. Each story is different and in a different time period. The characters change in each book but they are all tied by their ancestors from Atlantis.

What I liked about these books was that MZB mixed the facts with fantasy so actually some of these characters actually existed for instance the strong female herion called Boudica - she was a bad ass warrior who led her tribe against the romans according to our history books.

If you don't want such a serious read, then try these paranormal/fantasy authors:

1. Lara Adrian - Midnight Breed Series (Vampires)
2. Alyssa Day - The Warriors of Poseidon Series (Atlantis Warriors from under the sea)
3. Gena Showalter - Lords of the Underworld Series (Fallen Angels who are cursed with demons from pandoras box)
4. Virginia Kantra - children of the sea series (Selkies)
5. Katie MacAlister - Dark Ones Novel Series (Vampires)
6. Kathryn Smith - Brotherhood of the Blood Series (Lilith's children who are vampires)
7. Kresley Cole - Immortals after Dark Series (Vampires, Fey, Demons, Were-wolfs, Nymphs, etc)
8. Nora Roberts - Circle Trilogy or the Sign of Seven Trilogy (Vampires, witches, sorceres)
9. Amanda Ashley - My Night Series (Vampire - very clean has no sex scenes in it)
10. Sherrilyn Kenyon - Dark Hunter Series

I haven't read any Sherrilyn Kenyon's stuff yet but everyone has been recommending her to me.

If you want pure fantasy, I would recommend

1.Terry Brooks - The Sword of Shannara
2.Robert Newcomb - The Fifth Sorceress
3.Greg Keyes - The Briar King
4.George R.R. Martin - A Game of Thrones
5.James Patterson - Angel Experiment

I haven't read George R.R. Martins works yet but they are highly recommended.

You can check out my Read list if you want or even my TBR list and Wish list, there are so many books I want to read but it all depends on my moods because I like to mix them up.

Besides paranormal and fantasy, I like mystery and christian reads too. I try to read a little of everything except for Scary Horror stuff.
