D.G. I'm reading My Sweet Folly. The prologue was amazing and had me almost in tears...and then the book took a really weird turn for the next 100 pgs that had me thinking....say wha? But I guess the author had to make up a conflict because the H/h were already in love before chapter one.

I just finished The Wedding (Lairds' Fiancées, #2) by Julie Garwood on the train back from my ski day:-) But I finally found Sizzle (Buchanan, #8) by Julie Garwood at the bookstore, yay:-p

And I also read I'm Watching You (book #3) by Karen Rose yesterday.

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Read The Secret (Medieval, #1) by Julie Garwood Never Seduce a Scoundrel (School for Heiresses Series #1) by Sabrina Jeffries last night... 5* and 4*... And wow! Never Seduce a Scoundrel was steamier than I remember, lol.. that "Barbary pirate" scene? phew!

Grace Elliot (httpwwwgoodreadscomgraceelliot) | 68 comments Nearly finished Outlanderand it occurs to me that the plot is being set up for a sequel...mixed feelings cos I like a series but also I like a self contained story. Going back to LK next...havent decided which yet!

message 2809: by Lady (new)

Lady England | 8 comments I just finished The Tea Rose and The Winter Rose The Tea Rose The Winter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. Great books! Both are epic books that I loved almost as much as Bronze Horseman and Outlander. In Winter Rose, Sid Malone (Baxter, Charlie Finnegan) reminds me of Jaime Frasier (Alexander MacKenzie, MacDub). Both are fierce, red headed warrior types who resort to sometimes unsavory activities all for the greater good. Both survived whippings and prison torture to reunite with their true loves - strong female characters. Two thumbs up!

Melanie (melaina) | 638 comments Reread Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James , loved it just as much as the first time I read it, and (thank goodness!) FINALLY finished Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky : turns out I just had to sit down with a cup of tea and finish those last 200 pages!

I'm still mad at the author. I really hope that Willa is not the heroine of that last book in the trilogy (which will finally come out this year.)

She is (from the author's website). I really liked Willa but I wanted to see her future achievements be unrestricted- given how limiting a women's life was at the turn of the last century I thought Donnelly was pretty mean to write her in a disability. Let's see how it goes though.

"This third and final part of the Rose saga follows Seamie’s and Willa’s story, introduces a few new characters, and – of course! – brings back a few old ones."

message 2820: by D.G. (last edited Feb 13, 2011 02:15PM) (new)

D.G. After reading about so much poverty in the last two books, I don't know that I care for two spoiled rich brats that are only looking for fame. I mean, who cares who gets to do something first?

I think I'll read it only if WWI is a big part of the plot. There will be enough suffering for them both and they'll see how easy they've both had it all their lives.

(As you can see, I didn't care much for either.)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments The Darkly Luminous Fight for Persephone Parker (Strangely Beautiful, #2) by Leanna Renee Hieber

I'm doing really well on my "new author" reads this month. This is the third one so far!

These books are good. I'm enjoying them, but I've also wanted to slap the H & h several times. In book one she was just so over the top about him and he was too "what's right for the team". I'm enjoying the story though.

message 2831: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1625 comments Finished Happy Hour at Casa Dracula (Casa Dracula, #1) by Marta Acosta many lolz. Starting Catch A Mate by Gena Showalter

message 2832: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Glover | 576 comments Finished The Darkly Luminous Fight for Persephone Parker (Strangely Beautiful, #2). Teh story, the idea behind the story was really, really good but the romance was just bleh. The dialogue was almost too over the top and melodramatic. The "loves" and "darlings" and blah, blah, blah, blahs were just too much.

I think, had it been writeen as a paranormal without any romance, or if the romance was a side thought, it would have been really, really good. Also, some of the characters were somewhat flat. A rather important person to the story line dies in this book and I was not moved at all. Three stars.
