Caleb shrugged gently. "We move a lot. Or at least we did."

Caleb thought for a moment. "Well, most of the places haven't been too exotic. The reason we moved so much is that my parents are-were- computer programmers, and they set up systems for companies, so... they needed technology. We did get to see a California condor, once, when we were in America. It was huge. The cutest were probably the tiger cubs that we saw... I can't remember where it was, though."

Caleb grinned. "Oh, that's a hard one..." He thought silently for a moment, then shrugged. "Honestly? Probably dogs. Or..." he coughed. "Pandas."

Caleb felt his cheeks heat up--again. This seemed to be an increasingly frequent occurrence. He smiled in a sort of embarrassed, cheery way. "Yeah, they're pretty awesome," he said. "Are you just humoring me?"

Caleb looked at the ceiling for a moment, his face flaming. Why did you tell her that? He finally looked back down to Lyra. "Good try," he said. "It's all true, but..." he coughed, a smile coming to his face. "I can tell you want to laugh. Go ahead. I know it's weird."

Caleb let out an internal sigh. He looked up at Lyra, his eyes showing that he was taking a moment to understand. "Oh." He thought. "I... Well, I like a lot of things. I like reading, and writing, and I've always liked exploring." He grinned slightly. "Avery and I would have "safaris" sometimes. It was fun. I really enjoy soccer, most of all."

Caleb nodded with a sheepish grin. "Yeah... It was a long time ago." He shrugged. "Soccer is really fun. What do you like to do?"

We were between two little cities on a road once, the stars were fantastic." He shrugged with a slightly self-consious grin. "But it always makes me feel dizzy. I don't know what you call that. Vertigo?"

Caleb let out a small sigh. What can I say to that? He wondered. He leaned over and touched her arm comfortingly. "And it sounds to me like he had a good big sister, too."
