Welcome, Mary! I'm a big fan of Austen, particularly Persuasion, her best work in my opinion.

Theta,I just started Death Comes To Pemberly. I am so excited about it. I have read all of P D James and of course, have read P&P far too many times. I am looking forward to it being a great meshing of genre.

Hi Shane, welcome to the group! I've never heard of brutal fantasy. Sounds a little scary, is it?

Huh, interesting. I like some fantasy and I like action but I'm not sure about the dark part. :-)

Hi, Shane. Welcome to the group. That's one great thing about our group; our members have eclectic taste when it comes to their comfort read and other books.

Hi my name is Susan.I just found you, and looking forward to reading what others are recommending. I have just finished Bean Tree by Barbara Kingslover. Now, to figure out what to read next. I am involved with GWTW read along, looking forward to. I have a book blog if y'all are interested at http://susansliterarycafe.blogspot.com. I am from Myrtle Beach, SC, but originally a Yankee.
Hi, Susan. Welcome to the group. I'm glad you found us. Take a look at our threads and our bookshelves, and you'll get some great book ideas, I think. And feel free to jump in anytime and add more books you've enjoyed or those you'd like to read.

Welcome, Theta. Get ready for your TBR to grow and grow and grow. ;o)Welcome, Shane. Echoing many of the others, I'm not familiar with brutal fantasy. When I venture into the fantastical realms, I prefer the kind littered with sparkles and fairies. Of course, I also enjoy the paranormal vamps (traditional gruesome bloodsuckers as well as the sparkling good guys of late).
Welcome, Susan. Ah, The Bean Trees. While I've long since forgotten the plot and characters, the name elicits fond emotions in my heart and soul. It was my first Kingsolver book and I remember loving every moment!

Hi Susan! I haven't read that particular Kingsolver but have enjoyed some of her other work. Welcome to the group!

Hello :) I'm Mikka and my comfort read is YA, Fantasy/Romance. My favorite author is Tamora Pierce and Jane Austen. My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice (which I read every Christmas), and The Immortals quartet. :) One of the ones I read the most is a coming-of age story (very short and sweet) called Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster. :) Those are my comfort reads! :) Also I am new to this group, and to goodreads ^_^

Hi Mikka! I'm so glad you found Goodreads and Comfort Reads! Your favourites are loved by many of us so you are in good company. I read Daddy Long Legs for the first time last year and loved it!

Hello, Mikka. Welcome to the group, and to Goodreads. I hope you find our group and this site fun and helpful.

I'm Danielle, 20 years of age living in Los Angeles. I love to read Paranormal/Dark Fantasy, Horror, Comedy and Thriller/Crime/Mystery books. I like Tess Gerritsen, Karen Rose, Kelly Armstrong, Jana Oliver, Rachel Caine, Casandra Clare amongst many others. I've collected so many books over the years I have to use the selves in my wardrobe to store my books..Oh and I'd like to thank my sister for getting me into reading, but hey I'm not complaining. So Hi

Welcome Danielle! I just finished reading one of Kelley Armstrong's new books called The Gathering. It was pretty good except that it had a cliff hanger ending which kind of annoyed me.

Lee wrote: "Welcome Danielle! I just finished reading one of Kelley Armstrong's new books called The Gathering. But I think I can, isn't it where her aunt catches them after the group escape and takes her to that facility? I've just got the last one to read.

No, that's a different book but I read that one as well. I actually liked this better even with the cliff hanger.

That's the one. I had a look upstairs when I went to get another book then I couldn't remember which book you mentioned. The Gathering was the second one right? And The Reckoning is the third one. Or is it the other way around?

LOL! Nope, The Gathering is the start of a new series called Darkness Rising. They may be related but have different characters.

Hello, I'm Hugh. Comfort read...hmm... either something that helps me laugh and take life less seriously like Bubba and the Dead Woman by C.L. Bevill or something that, when I finish, no matter how dark and scary the story was, it left me with something that picked me up. Lately the best of those have been the Patrick Bowers Files (Starting withSteven James's The Pawn). It's fiction helps me escape my little bubble of reality, but there's usually a more spiritual or uplifting message to be learned that leaves me feeling better.

Thank you Lee... hmmm.... I should warn you that I'm a Dirty Ole Sailor (retired) so... you know where a sailor's mind goes when an attractive lady mentions trying to warm him up!(I knew there were perks to hanging on to this curmudgeonly life style).

I am currently reading
by J.R.R. Tolkien and I'm really enjoying it! I thought I would read it before I go see the film in December (it actually looks amazing!)aside from reading I have many other hobbies. I sing in and out of school and I have been a singer for many years now. I am a big fan of musicals and my top three now consists of:
1. Les Misérables
2. Phantom of the Opera
3. We Will Rock You
It is my dream to play either Inspector Javert, Enjolras, The Phantom or Commander Khashoggi in the future.
I am also a big Doctor Who fan.
anyway enough from me
Welcome, Gordon! Yes, we know your mom, and we're happy to have you join us! Lucky timing, as we plan to begin reading and discussing the Lord of the Rings trilogy next month. Once you finish the Hobbit, you can move on to The Fellowship of the Ring. :)
Have you read the book The Phantom of the Opera? I think the book is even better than the play/movie.
Well, enough from me, too! Welcome!

Hello. My name is Leona and I joined your group because I love a good comfort read. My favorite book of all time is To Kill a Mockinbird...I also love anything written by Marian Keyes. Comfort to me is reading a good book on a snow day in front of a fire or reading on a beach listening to the waves come in.

Hello, Leona. Welcome to the group! To Kill a Mockingbird has always been one of my favorite books. The reading settings you mention are very appealing.
