Hello, Susan. Welcome to the group. Unfortunately, this group's activity has tapered off quite a bit, but I hope you do enjoy what is here and what will be posted.
Susan wrote: "1300 members and the group is quiet? Hmmmm"It used to be very active. Now we're all lurking or not coming in at all. It's an old group.
Start of 2010. A lot has happened on Goodreads since then and some older members just get tired or they get more involved in another group. Maybe it will perk up again?
Susan, And I'd this group and other existing groups don't meet your needs, you can always start a new group. But I hope you can get something positive out of this one.
Hi All,I'm on a panel at Bouchercon 2015 World Mystery Conference, and my topic is "Why traditional mysteries are comforting."
How would you answer this question?
P.S. I'm a traditionally published author.
Hello this is Shannon! Comfort reads are definitely my favorite. I think we should definitely get this group revived. I love
books. I enjoy her works of fiction, based on her love of the Scottish Hebrides where she lived for some time after the second great war, the best. They are all about the people in her small croft town, their daily life, adventures and funny stories. Right now I am reading Winter Solstice by
and it is turning out to be a very nice cozy read. Any authors to share?
Hi Shannon, Welcome to the group.Yes, we were active for a very long time, but it's been a while.
Maybe if you post, others will join in.
Hi Lisa! I will do my best. It's a bit like, "Hello, hello anyone out there?" lol Oh well, I would like to see the group active again. Happy New Year!

Very good. Thanks!
Just keep in mind that this group was founded on diversity. Many of us find very upsetting books comfort reads. It includes all books.

Hi all and a special hello to Lisa! I just came upon this group in a round about way and I love the premise for Comfort Reads.
So, I am hoping to find some ideas here for those times I need something lighter to read, although I realize that is subjective. When I read a book I feel meets that criteria, I will be happy to add it to the group's bookshelf.

Thanks, Lisa Ann, and welcome to the group. A lot of my "comfort reads" many people would find depressing and they are not light, though I like many light books for comfort too.
It's been a long time since we've regularly added books to our shelves or had a lot of discussion on the threads, but feel free to take a look around and post if you want suggestions or can offer suggestions.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Lisa!
I am sorry the group has not been as active recently and am wondering if it might be helpful to archive some of the original discussion threads that have been inactive for a while and start a new 2016 thread? I know that is time consuming though.
Also, any thoughts about starting a bimonthly read or something that might allow members participate in on a more regular basis?
Please feel free to disregard any of these thoughts if they have already been considered or tried in the past or do not seem helpful. :)

Lisa Ann, Feel free to check with Lee, the other creator of the group, but when we started the group we deliberately didn't want to do any official group reads; we wanted a comforting group with no pressure or obligations. And I figure the oldest threads go to the bottom on their own. As I've posted somewhere in here, I no longer have much time for this group, and Lee has been even more inactive., in both the groups we created and co-mod.
Of it's okay with Lee and there is interest, I'm fine at this point with adding certain trusted people as mods if they're up for being active in the group and want to do some tweaking, though it would be nice if some of the original concept stayed.
Thanks for the explanation Lisa and I do understand. No worries either. :)
Lisa Ann, Shannon, and all newer people, I wish you had found us when we were a vibrant group. I and I think Lee would welcome new ideas and also new mods if they have time and interest to make the group active again. We've definitely let in languish due to personal life changes.
Hello everyone!I am Anna from Moscow. I practise my english by reading books and chatting:) You are welcome!
Hi there! Love to read chick-lit when I need something "light" to read. I love Plum Sykes books, and I've also enjoyed Emily Griffin & Sophie Kinsella. I wish Plum Sykes wrote more though- she is my favourite!
I'm new here...I read a lot of non fiction but then love to unwind with fiction. I love Kate Morton's books, mysteries by Terri Blackstock, all of Lisa Samson's, and have just recently started reading Khaled Hosseini.I'm looking forward to skimming thru the old posts here to see some of your favorites!
Hi, I’m Lynne 🤓. This definitely sounds like my kind of group! I’m all about comforting self-care to balance being a “nervous Nellie” single mom for the past 16 years with a hefty commute. I like audio books in the car, but I still prefer a hardback book & making time to read every day, even if my pace is just a chapter a day at bedtime. ☺️I usually have a book & yarn in my hands every day of my swampin’ busy life & have for over 40 years now 🤓 even if it’s just a few minutes each. My fave comfort read is what’s perfect at that stressful moment in time for me, right? I just got done reading the first of The Brown Sisters series “Get a Life, Chloe Brown” & it did the trick at the moment, but it wasn’t a typical read for me at all. Never know what will hit the spot! I try to be open. Sometimes I’ll reread a childhood fave, for nostalgic comfort...like “Prairie School” by Lois Lenski. A book, like scent, can take me right back to certain times of my life & that’s comforting. I remember my mother having “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale on her bedside table. I devoured it as an adult, years after my mother died. Now it’s one of my treasured fave comfort books. I read Lois l’Amour paperbacks onto cassette tapes for my dad, when he was in our hometown nursing home with Alzheimer’s. The nurses said his fave stories, read in a familiar voice, comforted & calmed him. :’-} When I started having anxiety & panic attacks in college, I found “Worry” by Edward Hallowell & it has been my “worry bible” ever since. Sometimes, as a single mom, what comforts me is having a secret crush on the author, like Roland Merullo when I read “A Little Love Story”. Sometimes, I need a virtual trip to a monastery to restore my soul, so I’ll turn to a novel like “The Dalai Lama’s Cat” by David Michie. Sometimes I need arm chair travel, the vacation I can’t afford to take or a little fantasy of an alternate life, so I reach for a book about someone who makes a sweeping change & starts over...one of my fave comfort themes, like “Under the Tuscan Sun” by Frances Mayes or living off the grid like The Great Alone” by Kristin Hannah. I could go on & on, obviously! Lol!
Thanks for having me. 🤓 ~ Lynne
Hi! I'm pretty new to the good reads community and I hope to enjoy a lot more books through this page :)my comfort book would be The Hunger Games trilogy because of the familiarity ig. This was my first ever binge-read.
Hi, I am only now joining groups but have been on Goodreads for a while. I love a good easy read romance when I need something just to let me relax, Most of all I love YA fantasy like The Fractured Empire and my most favourite comfort read is the Cursed Magic series by Casey O'Dell.
Hi, I'm Jennifer, in Arizona. My comfort reads are usually urban fantasy series that I loved by various author. I like K M Shea (Vampires Drink Tomato Juice), Gene Doucette's Immortal series, almost anything by Ilana Andrews, John Conroe's Demon Accords, R J Blain, and I have recently discovered W R Gingell. I'm always reading, and I go back to these books over and over. The charactes are good, the writing is the best, and I already know the ending so I don't have to stress.
Hello everyone! My name is Max! I typically read the cheezy books people shy away from, the whole big city girl moves to small town to fall in love with a cowboy/handyman/builder etc. I enjoy stepping into the drama of someone else life, one not so complicated. My favorite comfort read would likely be the Eragon series. I love that you can get lost in a whole world for hours and hours on end. My second pick, a book I have read multiple times, would be "Message in a bottle". This book has brought more tears to my eyes than I would care to admit, but I love it all the same.
