Umm... I'm thinking something along the lines of A Tale of Two Cities, The Three Musketeers, that sort of thing.
Something that could be considered a classic (I'll accept something written up until about 50 years ago) but is still HF.

I forgot for a second that this one isn't for everyone the easiest to find!

Umm... I wouldn't consider them to be HF because they were written around the time that they are set in.
However, I'd be OK with using The Magician's Nephew, because that one does contain the making of the world in the books. It would have to be either the YA or Alternative History or Fantasy task though.

Historical fiction is a book that is written about a past time. As the Narnia books were set in the time that they were written, they wouldn't technically be considered historical, except for the one I mentioned, and that's kind of stretching it.
There are some classic books which are hard to tell when they are supposed to take place, like Anne of Green Gables, etc, because a year isn't given, so if there is a doubt, I'll generally allow it, but if it's clear that they were contemporary books when they were written, they don't count. Sorry.
And each book can only be used for one task.

I'll allow the Ravens book for the druid task if that's what you want to use it for. It's more like fantasy/ alt history, but it's close enough. :)

There are some pretty good books listed by category.

Umm... Hmm. Uhhh... ?
Sorry Jon. I haven't read that one, and I'm pretty sure this square contemporary peg is not gonna go into this round HF hole. =\

Nope, it's all up to you Toni! You can decide to choose everything up front, or you can read and then see where it fits, and you can even change stuff later if you want.
You don't have to report points as you go, as long as they are all reported by 11:59p April 30 and I can verify they've been read.
You don't need to go in order or anything like that. It's all up to you.
Do you understand how the scoring works?

Do you think "The Grapes of Wrath" counts as HF? Written in 1939, so it's not like it was written way after the period it's about, but maybe it counts.

noooo, read it now!!!!!

Umm... no, I couldn't count that one as HF - BUT, we now have all of our bonus tasks, and 30.1 is a freebie, so you can read any genre you want. :)

cant! Becky wont let me! its all her fault lol

What!!!! goes to check question list!

I've been going by GR if the person *cough*Heather*cough* doesn't list their own page count. LOL
But, if your edition is the same as the one on GR, I can change the page count to match. I AM ALL POWERFUL!
Mew.

But I wonder - why are some of the right on the money, and some have a discrepancy between the actual book and GR. Even though I go a long way to try to find the one with the correct ISBN number.
Ugh! It makes librarians crazy! LOL A lot of the information is here is directly pulled from Amazon, which is notoriously wrong.
Also, if I remember correctly, the page count includes any indices or bibliographies etc, so that sometimes inflates the number too.

Use the larger of the two. *shrug* I'm good either way. A couple of pages generally isn't going to make a huge difference to the score.
Unless you want GR changed to reflect the actual pages, which is easy too.
Just be sure that it's the correct edition and that the page count doesn't include a preview chapter of book 2 or anything. :)

Yay! The answer I wanted. lol

Um, I have no idea what you're talking about. hehehe. I ♥ my buddy
LOL That's OK Heather, I was just poking fun. You linked to the book, so it's not like it was a hassle to get a page count! :D
In the challenge, only for bonus points.
But some people, like me, are kind of OCD about making sure that their book page counts are right in general. I keep track of the number of pages I read, so I want the information on GR to be right.
So far this year I've read 2182 pages. :)
