You should ask Kandice, Jon. I haven't read that one, but I've always thought that it was contemporary.
probly is, was clutching at straws again lol. it does seem to be older women reflecting on their youths or something so prob some form of period in there but not sure anythings specified until actually reading it
Although it is a mix of flashbacks and current events, I would also say it is contemporary, mostly because the flashbacks don't really seem to have a historical context, or flavor? If that makes sense.
Would The Golden Road, Chronicles of Avalon and Further Chronicles of Avalon by L M Montgomery be considered historical fiction?
I don't think that would count Jayme. It seems to me that they were contemporary when they were written.
Would The History of the Siege of Lisbon be considered historical fiction? It does talk about historical events.
For the revolution/civil war task, does it have to be in that exact time period or can we have some leeway like the book takes place in 1850 or 1792.
Okay another question, for task 40.1, read two books from the American West, I have some historical books that take place in the Pioneer tomes, One of them is about the Perkins Blind School. Can I use that? It is about a real place and a real teacher. Then another one takes place in that time period too.
Revolution/civil war: I'll allow books that aren't specifically about these, but they should have a direct correlation to them. (I'll leave it up to you to let me know how it qualifies.)
40.1 - yes.
40.1 - yes.
Sure. :) I'll let you know if I need additional information or anything. I'm sure it will be fine though.
Hi Becky - I'm new to this, but I thought I'd give it a try & see how it goes. When a challenge item says "any genre," does that mean it doesn't have to be historical fiction? Sorry for the newbie question!
Would 'the tree of seasons' count for the summer title? I know it is a bit.... but the book is about the four seasons and happening the day summer starts.
I think I will change my book for Jayme's task to Mockinjay, the third in Suzanne Collins series (1st was The Hunger Games). The third one comes out in August. It is set in the future in the nation of Panem.
I love the HG series! :D I can't wait for Mockingjay to come out, but I don't think that I'll be able to read it when it comes out unless there's some sort of miracle and my library orders a copy.
That is one that I definitely plan on buying because I need to know what happens. Becky you are more than welcome to borrow my copy when done.
We don't need to list our titles for the individual sections anywhere do we? We just post them under the challenge as we complete each book?
10.2 Read a book about real or current events - any time periodNeed to verify a book for this one. I want to read Schindler's List by Thomas Keneally which is a HF novel based on a real person and real events, but just wanted to make sure that will work for this task.
Thanks.
I am changing my 15.2 HF mystery to The Thirteenth Tale. I knew it was a mystery but was not sure what time period it was set it but saw that goodreads shows it as a mystery and as historical fiction.
OK that's fine - You can list these types of changes in the main challenge thread... That way I can be sure I won't miss it. Thanks! :)
I'm new to this group and challenge and have a couple of questions:Do I have to plan out all my books for the challenge from the start or can I decide as I complete each challenge and move on to the next? Although I don't think I can not plan as I am a planner and love to research which books I want to read :)
Books that are the month's reads (I, Claudius), can they count as well towards the challenge?
Thanks!
