I'm coming into the challenge a little late, but will be giving it a go. I've read (okay, skim-scrolled) this thread and the other one titled "Challenges?" and think I'm up to speed on the general rules, but still have two questions1) Can the "Exra Credit" tasks be completed and counted before the rest of the tasks, or do you have to do everything else first to get the extra credit?
2) Repeating Tasha's second question at post #153 - can the group read be counted for a task?
TIA
Yes, and Yes. You can do the tasks in any order you like, and the group read counts just as any other book would. :)
I read The Heart of the Mirage but there isn't a periode mentioned or countries. It mentiones legionaries and they were before BC.... which task would be okay for this one?
For which task could I use Inkspell if I did already Jayme's task?If none would match, can I read this one and Meeting the Other Crowd: The Fairy Stories of Hidden Ireland for the ten points task in which we read two books we had already?
Becky, would Alias Gracework for task 10.2 ( a book about real or current events)? It is based on the true story of Grace Marks.

I'll accept that, yes.

Okay, I usually think I'm pretty capable of categorizing books, but I'm going to ask for an official ruling on this one....Mozart's Blood
HF or not?

Mozart's Blood
HF or not?"
LOL!! I would say yes... I'd count that. It's still HF even though there are paranormal aspects too.

Okay Becky, The Woman and White mentioned a date 1827 in the text. So can i claim it for my HF mystery?

Sure, go ahead.
Sure, go ahead.
I need a ruling, would you consider "The Notebook" to be a HF? I am listening to it on audio and it seems to take place between 1942-1949 mostly. It isn't listed as HF. If you allow it, I like to use it for the HF romance.
I am not very good at the challenge thing, but do we start with challenge #1 or do we jump in on the current challenge?
Jennbunny, This Challenge will be over in 3 weeks. There is then going to be a brand new challenge - see challenge page. You can, of course, jump right in to Challenge #3 but I think it would be better for you to look it over and see what other people have done and are doing and then start with Challenge #4. Challenge's 1 and 2 have already been completed.
Thanks Maude....I was kind of worried I would have to do them all and try to catch up. I will wait for challenge #4.
Just to check, there isn't any task for which I can use the following books?-collection of short stories. detectie stories in italy
-jostein gaarder: lilli de libris and the magic library (don't know if this would be YA kind of)
Do you own them? IF so you can use them for the 10 point task- read two books you own but haven't read.
Becky; I'm reading Gilead by Marilynne Robinson for task 20.3 (father/son). Narrator is born 1880 and writes an open letter/memoir about his life that he leaves for his young son. He talks about his father and grandfather, a civil war veteran and iterant preacher. I didn't pick it because I thought it was HF and it isn't touted as HF ... So Becky I need to defer to your wisdom and expertise. Would you consider this HF or not?
Yes, I would think that would be HF. You can read any genre for the 20.3 task... I'm not sure if I understand what the question is! LOL
On the other hand, I've been wanting to read that one for a while now. Let me know what you think!

Sorry, Becky, that I wasn't clearer, but Jackie hit the nail on the head. Would it qualify for the bonus point? Thank you, Jackie!

Good because I wanted to use Gilead for 25.1 in challenge 4 - HG with religion as a theme
Hi Becky, for the challenges in general, does historical non-fiction count for historical fiction or must it be fiction only? And specifically for Challenge #4, task 20.6, I didn't participate in the last challenge, so how shall I treat this task?Thank you.
Non-fiction would only could where specified. Otherwise it should be HF.
For 20.6, if you didn't participate before, you can just choose any task you'd have liked to have done from the previous challenge and read a book that would count for that. ;)

Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "Before I claim this book, would Interview With The Vampire be considered historical fiction?"I asked about this book in the Challenge #4 thread, and I think it was ok - but I want to listen in on what Becky says.....
Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "Before I claim this book, would Interview With The Vampire be considered historical fiction?"
Yep.
Yep.
out of curiosity, do the books have to be
fiction
or can they be historical Non-Fiction too?? I want to use Always Faithful: A Memoir of the Marine Dogs of WWII for task 15.5 but it is absolutely Non-Fiction....
Hi Becky - For task 15.3 "Read a HF that has one of the the four elements in the title (earth, air, fire, water)," can I use Ice Limit (frozen water)?
Southpaw, as long as the book features the war itself, not just a byproduct of it, then yes.
Miss GP, I don't think that would count, since the task is looking for the specific words in the title. Sorry!

Oh sorry Kristi! I just checked and 15.5 is Read any HF you want, so no, you'd have to read a HF for that one. If you were doing it for a war task, it would be fine, since there is no genre requirement.
