The Monkey's Raincoat by Robert Crais was the first Crais novel I have read, and the first paperback to be plucked from the 'Lending Library' that someone started on my job. The LL consists of two bookends with whatever people want to bring in, in between, and the stipulation that you can either give, take, or borrow a book from it...a really cool way to 'take a break' when I need one, to travel up to the 4th floor and peruse the 'short-stack'. Although many times nothing changes for a long time, it's still fun to anticipate wonderful things showing up there.

Skeleton Canyon is there now...I noticed that you read it some months ago.

Nobody can take the place of Elvis and Joe (hey, I love these guys!) but Sheriff Joanna Brady is a very real personality and quite enjoyable in her own right. Jance books don't contain the same humor that Crais novels do, but some of the nasties the diplomatic Joanna thinks at people crack me up. I haven't been able to obtain a lot of that series, but Skeleton Canyon was my favorite so far--warning: much sadness.

Hi Lola- I couldn't really figure out how to reply so that it was placed by the J.A. Jance book I wanted to comment about. Anyways, I just finished "Birds of Prey" and started "Lying in Wait" today. I really like Jance's style, but also I like the reader on my audio file. I download most of the books I read from the Boston Public Library and listen to them on my ipod. I've been doing it for a while now and I find the reader/narrator is someone I can get attached to as much as an author! The guy that reads Jance's novels is this homespun type and I'm stuck on him right now. :) I keep forgetting to update my list- you are so great at reading AND keeping your list current. YAY for you.

I make it hard to reply when I gather up my books into the monthly summary, but if I don't it takes up too much space and it is hard to keep up. Thanks for the Yay, but it is undeserved. If I don't keep up my listings immediately, I end up with a mess. It is amazing how fast I forget what I read. Keeping up my book reviews...now there's another matter...I am glad you are enjoying Sheriff Brady. They talk about her bad temper but if I had her mother, we'd have a lot more fireworks.
